News and Notes

It looks as if Joshua Cribbs wants to already restructure his contract, one he just signed before the start of the 2007 season mind you.
It appears that the Gary Baxter era is all but over in Cleveland. Baxter underwent surgery Tuesday to clean out the cartilage in one of his knees.
Another day and another story of how much Travis Wilson has impressed and looks to be a lock as the 3rd WR this season, in his 3rd pro season, after being virtually invisible the past two seasons.
Tight end Steve Heiden, offensive lineman Seth McKinney, fullback Lawrence Vickers, linebacker Beau Bell, and receiver Kevin Kasper are all expected to not participate in tomorrow's game. And tight end Kellen Winslow Jr, and punt/kick returner Joshua Cribbs are doubtful at this point.

Banged Up Browns

Browns rookie linebacker Beau Bell missed the evening practice on Monday with a sore knee, but says it's nothing serious and should return to practice today. Tight end Kellen Winslow has missed the past four workouts with a sore hamstring and could be limited in Thursday's game against the Jets, if he plays at all.

Picks Signed

Well there won't be any rookie hold-outs this season, which is a good thing considering they are all 4th round or lower picks and can't afford to miss any time at all. Each of the picks are signed through the 2011 season, however no other terms of the contracts have been released.
Left to right: Alex Hall, Ahtyba Rubin, Paul Hubbard, Martin Rucker, Beau Bell

Monday Afternoon Link Fest

Here are some links for this beautiful Monday afternoon (at least where I am sitting). Additionally, as all of you know, the Dallas Cowboys are the Browns' first opponent in the upcoming 2008 season. There is also a good chance that the arrogance of "America's Team" makes you at least chuckle, especially after yet another disappointing showing by them in the playoffs. If that is the case, then here is the best news you will hear today: the Browns are 3-point favorites in that Week One match-up. Should be interesting leading up to the game.
- First, the Browns were apparently interested in acquiring veteran receiver Eric Parker from the San Diego Chargers. Now, the team could be interested in the Jaguars' Matt Jones. This certainly raises some questions, as the Browns originally seemed solid at the receiver position. Perhaps Joe Jurevicius has more physical ailments than we could imagine and can contribute even less than that of a third receiver. I wouldn't be suprised if he gave the Browns the go-ahead to go shopping for yet another wide receiver, as he wasn't shy to originally inform them he was incapable of handling the duties of the #2 wide receiver.
- Terry Pluto thinks the Browns should shop one of their tight ends or fullbacks in order to obtain a cornerback they so desperately need.
- Is rookie linebacker Beau Bell going to be enough of a hard-nosed player for the Browns?
Around the AFC North:
- Running back Rudi Johnson - isn't it great Cincinnati is back to being the lovable Bungles? - has had an impressive off-season.
Around the NFL:
- Our blogger over at Black & Teal is certainly making an impression with The Landry Hat. Apparently, Dan can't seem to handle sarcasm directed at his 'Boys, which led to something similar to a childish fit of anger followed by a storm of angry Cowboys fans. Jeanne gets a smiley face next to her name in my book.
And finally...
- Wall-E and the future of sports (p.s. I NEED to see Wall-E, in the worst way).
And while I am on the topic of movies, let me remind you to NEVER see "The Love Guru." That is, unless your only form of entertainment and satisfaction is found through wasting your money. In that case, just burn it at home. Mike Myers' comedy is currently dead and buried and, by the looks of it, I would hope to never see it resurrected.
