After an inconsistent first half from Cal's starting quarterback, Nate Longshore, coach Jeff Tedford chose to bring in this week's backup, Kevin Riley. Riley started last week against Oregon, but suffered a concussion early in the game. He may have started against the Trojans had he been able to get more reps during practice this week. The lack of reps, showed as Riley often missed his receivers when they were open and held onto the ball too long on some plays....

The last time so many young players on the Cal football team were getting opportunities to play was probably in coach Jeff Tedford's second season (2003) where he rotated between Aaron Rodgers and Reggie Robertson at the quarterback spot. Even then, it's probable that the 2003 team was still a little older. Their quarterbacks were definitely not Sophomores....

After losing starters Robert Jordan, Lavelle Hawkins, and DeSean Jackson to the NFL, California will be playing with a whole new set of WR's this season. The group is comprised of Lareyllle Cunningham, Nyan Boateng, Jeremy Ross, and Michael Calvin. These guys have huge shoes to fill, it will be interesting to see the progress after Spring Ball is over.
