The Orioles Need to Stay Patient

Can the Orioles afford to sign a big name free agent? Andy McPhail says yes:MacPhail insists any media or fan skeptics that question whether the club is willing to offer a big contract under the right circumstances, are off base."We offered over 140 million dollars to Teixeria, who could have just as easily accepted it and I wish he had. To think we wouldn't go out there or that offer somehow is not genuine is absurd. It's over twice what was offered in the history of the franchi...

Blogging the Offseason: Arizona Diamondbacks

Blogging the Offseason is a 30 team series in which I ask a blogging representative from each MLB team a series of ten questions about their desires and thoughts surrounding the offseason. Check out all of them here.

Today's NL team is the Arizona Diamondbacks and our guest is Jim from the Dbacks Blog, AZ SNakepit.

1. What do the Dbacks do with Webb this offseason? Do they deal him? Do they pick up his option? Do they try to extend him?
This question has already half answered itsel...

Now that the World Series is over, free agency has begun. The Arizona Diamondbacks have started to make their off-season roster moves.
Pitcher Brandon Webb had his option picked up. As well as it should have been. Webb has done the most for this franchise since the 2001 World Series. It’s just a shame it [...]

The Diamondbacks exercised their option on Brandon Webb. He’ll earn $8.5 million in 2010. Webb wants to prove he can pitch again before signing an extension with the Diamondbacks, although he he comes back to form Arizona might not be able to afford him. He doesn’t really have to pitch all that [...]

As predicted by 5 out of 5 Snake Pit moderators, the Diamondbacks have indeed picked up Brandon Webb's option for the 2010 season! This comes via the FoxSportsArizona twitter feed, and should be confirmed by an actual story soon.

The end of the World Series - about which, the less said the better - means that Arizona now have five days to decide whether or not to exercise their option on Brandon Webb for 2010. It's a choice that, depending on how he pitches, could define the entire season - we saw how much the rotation struggled to replace hi...

Taking a look at Brandon Webb

Per Bob Nightengale of McPaper, the Diamondbacks are unlikely to pick up Webb’s $8.5mm option for next season, making him a FA. Nightengale claims that they will try to work a 1-year deal with him, but since he’s been pitching since 2003 I’m pretty sure he’s a FA if the option isn’t picked up. As JCust and MO mentioned in the last thread, Webb would be a Hendry special and he would be born to pitch in Wrigley with that sinker.

Webb went down with shoulder pro...

Man, that was a long, incredibly awesome hiatus. Now back to business... I missed you guys too. After undergoing shoulder surgery on Monday, Brandon Webb is done for the season. The Arizona Diamondbacks righty, who has a history of being a rather durable workhorse, pitched on Opening Day and rode the pine the rest of the way. Up until then, he'd only landed on the disabled list one other time when he missed 15 days due to tendinitis in his pitching elbow back in 2003.Webb, the National Leag...
