Onto Thirteen Losses in a Row, Brooks Robinson & Consternation

Last night, rookie pitcher David Hernandez got shelled and the Baltimore Orioles lost their 13th game in a row, 5-3, despite a late rally. Baltimore fell behind a never rebounded as Hernandez lasted only 4 1/3 innings, and looked like well, a rookie pitcher. Willy Aybar had an RBI-single in the second inning, Ben Zobrist hit a three run homer in the third, and Carl Crawford hit a solo shot in the fifth to add to Baltimore's misery. Hernandez's teammates could not get it started early,...

Melvin Mora will not take being forced to sit down sitting down

Orioles manager Dave Trembley decided to bench third baseman Melvin Mora today, since he's batting only .256, in favor of Ty Wigginton. Trembley admitted that he's also playin Wigginton more lately because his contract extends beyond this year and Mora's doesn't, and it doesn't seem likely that Mora will return to Baltimore following this season.

Melvin Mora doesn't seem to be handling the benching very well.

O's Take Series in Seattle After Implosion; Orioles Cook-Off...

The Baltimore Orioles got lucky last night -- literally. They scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth, thanks to RBI's by Adam Jones, Nick Markakis, and two by Ty Wigginton along with two assists -- er, errors -- by Mariners' second Jose Lopez helped the Orioles win, 5-3. Baltimore with the win on Wednesday afternoon, took two out of three from Seattle, and ended their West Coast excursion with a 3-4 record after a shockingly bad series in Anaheim. Brian Bass got the win in relief...

Let me preference this by saying, I've never been one of those guys that has clamoured for the return of Ty Wigginton, of the two deals that were made on that fateful day in 2004, the Wiggy deal was fair.In a true tribute to his popularity, since he left in 2004 there always seems to be Mets fans who want him back. But in this particular case Wigginton seems to be the perfect fit, to meet our needs. Wigginton is versatile enough to play multiple positions ( 1B, 2B, 3B, OF), he's slumpi...

As most fans know, the team acquired the 'verstaile' Ty Wigginton off the market yesterday.
Ty Wigginton?

A while ago I suggested the Yanks pick up Ty Wigginton to help out their bench. It looked like he was going to get a starting job though so I gave up on that idea fairly quickly. However, according to Walt Jocketty, "They're getting close to desperate stage." He has an undeniably awful glove. ...

While he drew interest early on the market for him has died off in recent weeks.

Wigginton made 4.35 million dollars last season, and could receive as much as 7 million dollars after hitting .285 with 23 HR in 111 games. Wigginton last played for the Pirates in 2005, but struggled hitting .258 in 58 games. He might be more intrigued by playing for the Giants or Twins. Both teams have solid pitching, and would have even better hitting with the addition of Wigginton. Nothing appears imminent, so we might not hear anything until after the New Year.
This story was approved by MLB Rumors.
