Raiders add many more players

Day three of the 2012 NFL Draft came and went yesterday and the Raiders added a number of new players to the team.
Coming into the day, the Raiders had 4 draft picks - one fourth, two fifths and one sixth.
With their fourth round pick, 129th overall and the second of three compensatory picks awarded the team, they took OLB Miles Burris from San Diego St. He has good size at 6'2" 246 and was a locker room leader. He's reportedly an instictive player and good in run support but may be a liability in pass protection. He had some success as a blitzer in college.
When the Raiders got on the clock for their first fifth round pick, 148 overall, they ended up trading with the Lions out of the pick. The Raiders moved down 10 spots to 158 overall and in exchange for moving, they received the Lions seventh round pick.

With the 158th pick the Raiders chose Jack Crawford, a 6'5" 274 DE from Penn St. Despite having only played football for five years, at this time...

2012 NFL Draft: Oakland Raiders Select Six Prospects On Day 3

The Oakland Raiders look to have made the most of their mid-late round picks in the 2012 NFL Draft.
After capping off day two of the draft with the first compensation pick (95th overall) in the third round with offensive tackle Tony Bergstrom out of Utah, the Raiders picked up San Diego State linebacker with the 129th overall selection.
Equipped with enough athleticism to provide solid pass protection and decent overall strength, Tony Bergstrom explodes off the line as a run blocker. Expect him to operate at either right tackle or kick inside to guard for the Raiders.
Miles Burris, one of the more gifted linebackers in this 2011 draft class, led his team with 80 total tackles with 9.5 sacks and four forced fumbles in 2010 and was on the first team All-Mountain West Conference last season. He has a non-stop motor and is a talented overall athlete as well. (Check out these highlights on Burris.)
The Silver and Black moved back to get another later pick and picked up Penn State defe...

2012 NFL Draft: Linebacker U sends Nate Stupar to Oakland Raiders

Penn State is sending one more player to the Oakland Raiders. On the final day of the NFL Draft, the Raiders drafted linebacker Nate Stupar in the seventh round with the 230th overall pick.
Stupar is the 59th linebacker to be drafted by an NFL team in school history and he is the seventh at the position to be drafted since 2007. The Raiders have now drafted 11 players out of Penn State all-time.
Stupar was a fringe NFL draft prospect expected to go late in the draft if at all. His overall ball awareness and tackling ability could make him a project worth taking a chance on for Oakland, but his lack of speed and mobility may be a concern as he looks to go up against NFL talent.
Earlier in the fifth round Oakland drafted defensive end Jack Crawford from Penn State. It is the first time in franchise history the Raiders have drafted two Penn State players in the same draft. With Oakland's second round draft selection of center Stefen Wisniewski the Raiders have now drafted a tota...

Raiders draft DL Chris Bilukidi in 6th round

The Oakland Raiders have selected defensive lineman Chris Bilukidi with their sixth-round pick of the NFL draft.

The Raiders took Bilukidi 189th overall with their fourth pick of the day Saturday.

Bilukidi is the son of an Angolan diplomat and was mostly a basketball player until his final year of high school in Canada. He started his college career at Eastern Arizona and finished his career at Georgia State. He had 10 sacks and 16 tackles for loss in two seasons there.

The Raiders previously took San Diego State linebacker Miles Burris with a compensatory pick at the end of the fourth round, and Penn State defensive end Jack Crawford and Arizona receiver Juvon Criner in the fifth round.

2012 NFL Draft: Penn State defensive end Jack Crawford drafted by Oakland Raiders

Penn State defensive end Jack Crawford has been drafted by the Oakland Raiders. Crawford was drafted with the 158th overall pick in the fifth round.
Crawford was the third Penn State player to be drafted in this year's NFL Draft. Crawford's defensive line-mate, defensive tackle Devon Still, was taken in the second round by the Cincinnati Bengals. Prior to Crawford going to Oakland, offensive guard Johnnie Troutman was taken earlier in the fifth round by the San Diego Chargers.
Dating back to 1971, the Oakland Raiders have drafted ten Penn State players. Crawford's pick also moved Penn State past the Texas Longhorns on the all-time list of players drafted in the NFL Draft. Crawford was Penn State's 328th all-time player to be drafted, breaking a tie with the Longhorns at the time. Penn State is now eighth all-time in total NFL Draft picks, and creeping up on Tennessee, with 330 all-time picks as of Crawford's draft selection.
Crawford is the first defensive end...

Raiders draft DE Jack Crawford 158th overall

The Oakland Raiders have selected Penn State defensive end Jack Crawford with the 158th pick in the NFL draft.

The Raiders traded down 10 spots Saturday before taking Crawford. Oakland also got a seventh-round pick from Detroit in the deal.

Crawford started three years at Penn State but is still new to football. He moved from England to the United States to play basketball in high school and picked up football in his junior year in high school. He had 6.5 sacks for the Nittany Lions last season.

The Raiders previously selected Utah guard Tony Bergstrom with a compensatory pick at the end of the third round and San Diego State linebacker Miles Burris with a compensatory pick at the end of the fourth.

Raiders Select Penn St. DE Jack Crawford (Rd.5, No.158)

With the 158th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Raiders select Jack Crawford, DE (Penn State). Crawford has an amazing frame for defensive end. Taller than 6-foot-5, he is going to get his hands up and disrupt passes at the next level. Even if he has to develop early on, he can contribute right away in this aspect. He is athletic for his position and it shows when he is running down cross-field plays. He is adept at shedding blocks and getting to the ball. Source: NFL.com Attached Thumbnails

7 Nittany Lions Headed to NFL Scouting Combine

With two Penn Staters having just left Indianapolis on top of the football world, seven more are about to head to the very same stadium to embark on their NFL journeys.
As Jeff Nelson (@GoPSUJeff) tweeted this morning, Penn State will be well represented during the highly-publicized (and scrutinized) NFL Combine. The group consists entirely of seniors; DE Jack Crawford, DB D’Anton Lynn, WR Derek Moye, DB Chaz Powell, DT Devon Still, LB Nate Stupar, and OG Johnnie Troutman. Considering only two players (Royster, Wisniewski) from last year’s class were invited to the event and both were drafted, I would say such strong representation bodes well for the 2012-13 rookie class of Penn Staters in the NFL. It’s also worth noting that 4 out of the 7 Nittany Lions invited to this year’s combine played or were invited to some sort of college all-star game, so the combine won’t be the first time many of these players are observed by scouts.

NFL Draft: Jack Crawford training with former NFL lineman

With some Penn State players preparing for the NFL Draft and potential workouts and the NFL Scouting Combine, it is not unusual to see players spread throughout the country as they train with other NFL hopefuls, and in some cases current NFL players. In Jack Crawford's case, he is training in New Jersey with a former Philadelphia Eagle.
As reported yesterday by Press of Atlantic City, Crawford is training at 7 Deuce Sports with Tra Thomas, a three-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle who played 12 years in the NFL and was a fixture on the Philadelphia offensive line protecting Donovan McNabb. Thomas is giving Crawford unique advice, letting him know what offensive linemen in the NFL think and do to better prepare Crawford for a potential NFL future.
"It's tough to get past him," Crawford said. "I'm learning that certain things that worked for me in college won't work in the NFL."
Some more from Crawford...

Penn State Football: Nittany Lions land TicketCity Bowl

It was something on the back of every Penn State player and fan’s mind when bowl selections came out this weekend, would the Jerry Sandusky sex scandal affect where the team would head in the postseason?
Those fears were realized on Sunday when the Lion learned of their fate-a trip to the TicketCity Bowl in Dallas-to face the Houston Cougars (12-1, 8-0 C-USA; lost in C-USA Championship game). While a matchup with Heisman-hopeful Case Keenum and the high-flying Cougar aerial attack, it’s not exactly where the team wanted to be.
“Smh worst case scenario” was posted on defensive end Jack Crawford’s Twitter account late Sunday.
The players’ beef is that this is still, despite the scandal, a very good team. As evidence by its 9-3 (6-2 Big Ten) record, the Lions deserved a much better bowl fate. By virtue of their record, they finished as the fourth best in the Big Ten, which would mean a trip to either the Outback, Insight, Gator, or even the Capital One Bowl.
Instead, thanks in part to ...
