Browns QBs Impress Early

BEREAAlways the most talked about position is quarterback and the final day of Organized Team Activities (OTA) for the first week, was no different. The Browns practiced Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with the final day the only day open to the media.
Brandon Weeden took the first snaps with the first team and Jason Campbell with the second team. Safety Eric Hagg intercepted a pass from Weeden on a high throw that Josh Gordon tipped up in the air. Later on, Weeden threw a perfect touchdown pass to Davone Bess.
Obviously my third day wasnt as good as the first two, Weeden said. The completions werent as high as they were on the first two days. The first two days we were flying around and making plays.
Weeden said he feels more confident in his second season.
Im already familiar with the guys, he said. Day three last year to day three this year is night and day. This offense makes more sense. Once you hear it, you get it. Plus me, and my wife have spent way too much time studying the playbook.

Browns sign OL Rashad Butler

The Cleveland Browns today added some insurance to their offensive line by signing veteran Rashad Butler-
“The Cleveland Browns today signed offensive lineman Rashad Butler to a one-year contract, the club announced. Butler was previously as an unrestricted free agent from Houston.
Originally drafted by Carolina in the third round (89th overall) of the 2006 draft, Butler has appeared in 41 career games with four starts. He was waived by the Panthers on September 3, 2007 and spent the next six seasons with the Texans after being claimed off waivers. He spent all of 2012 on injured reserve with a triceps injury. In 2010, he played in all 16 contests with four starts at left tackle.
A four-year letterman at the University of Miami, Fla. (2002-05), Butler started 23 of the 38 games in which he appeared at both right and left tackle. Born February 10, 1983, the 6-4, 310-pound Butler is a native of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, where he attended Dwyer High School.”

NFL News: Jason Pinkston says blood clot is “100 percent clear”

Cleveland Browns offensive lineman Jason Pinkston reports that the blood clot which prematurely ended his 2012 season has completely cleared up.
Great news today from the doctor blood clot in my right leg Is 100% clear & gone!!
— Jason Pinkston (@JasonPinkstonOL) March 27, 2013

Admitted after days of discomfort in late October following the team’s early-season win over the Cincinnati Bengals, Pinkston went on to miss the remainder of the 2012 campaign.
Pinkston will reportedly meet with a specialist on April 4 and will have additional updates at this time. He had planned on returning in 2013 all along; this news merely cements the possibility that Pinkston will be available to compete for a starting spot at guard along with Shaun Lauvao, John Greco and any off-season additions.

Banner Report: The Offensive Line

You may remember back in 2010 (you know the last time there was a complete overhaul in Berea) we wanted to give incoming President Mike Holmgren a hand evaluating the roster. We are nothing if not equal opportunity. The Browns have a completely new group in charge this year. Joe Banner, Mike Lombardi, Rob Chudzinski, Norv Turner and Ray Horton take over a 5-11 team. They have plenty of important decisions to make about the roster between now and the 2013 NFL Draft. WFNY wants to offer our assistance with The Banner Position Reports. Previous reports:LB, QB, RB, DBs, DL, WR/TE.
The last of the Banner position reports. Of course we saved the glamor position for last- the offensive line. There are conflicting opinions about the state of the Browns’ offensive line. They seem to be highly praised outside of the area. Do we have a hangover from previous years of poor play? Is the guard play bad enough to warrant an elevated Banner Report status?

Seasons Beatings from the Cleveland Browns

“[Our] record sucks. Everybody is disappointed. We can’t keep coming in here and talking to y’all and saying ‘this is what they did.’ They just beat us.” — Joe Haden
“That’s kind of an offensive lineman’s worst nightmare. You get behind and you abandon the run game and it becomes a blitz fest out there.” — John Greco
“A couple times I just threw the ball in the dirt to let those guys rest. We were throwing the ball down the field and those guys were tired.” — Colt McCoy
“Shurmur’s use of the timeouts to retain one final possession in the closing minutes was a hot topic among players. They were visibly upset on the field and in the locker room.” — Tony Grossi

Shurmur: Solid Browns offensive line continues to be its biggest critic

The offensive line played together now for a long time. Offensive linemen have to work together and the longer they play together the smoother it goes. I think kind of adding John Greco to the mix there midway through the season has been good. John’s done a pretty good job for us and I think the challenge for them is just to continue. Although statistically there were some things that we did well last week, there were some plays in there when they watched the tape they said, ‘Gosh darn we can’t…’ They’re a unit that works well together, they’re very critical of their mistakes and they take great pride in having a runner that’s efficient and a quarterback that stays on his feet.

– Cleveland Browns head coach Pat Shurmur on his offensive line which includes the only four players on the team who have been on the field for every snap. Their play, per Shumur, has been a large factor in the team’s offensive improvement between 2011 and 2012.

Browns guard Pinkston still in hospital

BEREA, Ohio (AP) -- Cleveland Browns guard Jason Pinkston remains hospitalized with blood clots in his lungs.

Pinkston was rushed to the Cleveland Clinic on Thursday with the life-threatening condition. He had been feeling poorly for most of last week and had gotten ill during the previous Sunday's game against Cincinnati. The 25-year-old will likely miss the remainder of this season, and the Browns are expected to place the second-year player on injured reserve -- maybe as early as Monday.

Pinkston started all 16 games as a rookie last season. The fifth-round pick from Pittsburgh started Cleveland's first six games before missing Sunday's loss at Indianapolis. John Greco filled in for Pinkston and may have to start the remainder of this season.

Greco has spoken to Pinkston and said his teammate intends to play again.

Browns crawl into free agency

The Cleveland Browns have released starting right tackle Tony Pashos, one of several moves made as NFL free agency opened.

The club also tendered wide receiver Jordan Norwood and defensive lineman Brian Schaefering and signed backup offensive lineman John Greco to a contract extension on Tuesday. Punter Richmond McGee, who spent most of last season on injured reserve, was also released.

Pashos played with a torn tendon in his foot most of last season. He underwent surgery last week.

Cleveland is more than $15 million under the salary cap, but general manager Tom Heckert has said the team will not ''go crazy in free agency.'' Heckert prefers to build through the draft, and the Browns have the No. 4 overall pick next month and three of the first 37 selections.

NFL News: Browns Tender Jordan Norwood, Extend John Greco

With the NFL’s free agency period under way, the Cleveland Browns officially announce that the team has tendered wide receiver Jordan Norwood and defensive lineman Brian Schaefering (exclusive rights) while signing offensive lineman John Greco to a contract extension.
After being acquired in a trade with the St. Louis Rams, Youngstown-native John Greco appeared in 15 games in 2011. Norwood appeared in 14 games, emerged late in the season as a slot receiving option, hauling in 23 receptions for 268 yards and a touchdown. Schaefering appeared in all 16 contests in a reserve role.
The team also officially confirmed the release of offensive lineman Tony Pashos and punter Richmond McGee. Both players experienced injury-plagued 2011 campaigns, McGee being placed on Injured Reserve following the team’s Week 1 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
