Brandon Weeden on Travis Benjamin: “He’s stuck out”

Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal wrote a detailed article on the state of the Cleveland Browns wide receiver corps on Monday. Although the piece was mostly about the value of recently acquired Davone Bess, it also featured this stand-out quote from quarterback Brandon Weeden on fellow second-year Travis Benjamin:
“Travis had at least as many catches if not more than anybody in camp,” Weeden said. “His route running is phenomenal, probably because he’s so fast. Guys have to honor him running by them. He’s been getting in and out of breaks so well. Whether it’s in-breaking routes or out-breaking routes, he’s really found a knack of getting separation and giving me a chance to complete some balls. He’s had a lot of catches this camp. He’s stuck out.”
Benjamin, a speedy 23-year-old, was the team’s 4th-round draft pick out of Miami last season. With the loss of returner Josh Cribbs, Benjamin figures to be even more involved on special teams this year — along with the offense as well.

Bess boosts Browns receiver group at minicamp

Davone Bess is the oldest wide receiver on the Cleveland Browns, but he isn't showing his age at minicamp.

Bess, 27, has been the most consistent pass catcher throughout the three-day camp. He was acquired from the Miami Dolphins in an April 26 trade to bolster Cleveland's inexperienced receiving corps.

Greg Little and Josh Gordon are the Browns' top wideouts, but Bess is seeing plenty of time in three-receiver sets while lining up in the slot.

Cleveland also signed former Bills wide receiver David Nelson as it collects talent for the up-tempo scheme being implemented by new coach Rob Chudzinski and offensive coordinator Norv Turner.

Miami Dolphins 2013 Receiver Outlook

Hello Dolphin Shout and Miami Dolphin Fans Everywhere.

First
off, may I suggest a standing ovation (if you are alone at this
moment) or a golf clap (if surrounded by folks of curiosity) in
honor of our beloved overachieving 2008 undrafted free agent Davone
Bess. Bess was traded to the Cleveland Browns for a fourth round pick
during the 2013 draft. Davone is a class act football player on
and off the field as well as an asset to the community of Miami! May
we all wish him a farewell and good luck in his future endeavors beyond week one
of the 2013 football season.

Here's Bess:

"My initial reaction was it was bittersweet, obviously being down here
in Miami since my rookie year, having developed a relationship with the
organization, the fans and kind of embracing my opportunity was
something special here"

professional years, however as a 27 year old one-dimension...

New receivers Bess and Nelson bring experience, reliability to the slot

The Browns have not had a productive offense since 2007. And if you’re like me, over the last five years you’ve probably watched the likes of New England, Green Bay, and New Orleans and wondered how it was possible that Brady, Rodgers, and Brees were playing the same sport that us Cleveland fans watched every Sunday.
In 2011 Drew Brees threw for 46 touchdowns while the entire Browns offense scored just 20. Yikes.
2012 was a little better. Last year Brees threw just five more TD’s (43) than the Browns offense scored (38). Signs of improvement for sure, but still a long way to go.
This offseason Banner and Lombardi put their emphasis on arming new Browns’ defensive coordinator Ray Horton with as many weapons as possible, but the offensive personnel remains largely unchanged. With Ben Watson being the only key departure leaving via free agency the hope was the Browns would land a new starting tight end, one that could be a reliable safety net for the inexperienced Brandon Weeden. But t...

Davone Bess is thankful the Dolphins traded him to the Browns

Wide receiver Davone Bess told the Cleveland Plain-Dealer that he’s thankful that the Dolphins traded him to the Browns.
“My initial reaction was it was bittersweet, obviously being down here in Miami since my rookie year, having developed a relationship with the organization, the fans and kind of embracing my opportunity was something special here,” said Bess.
“But all good things, they say, must come to an end. To jump ship to Cleveland was a great opportunity, a great stepping stone for myself in my career. So personally it was a great move for me. I’m thankful for the future and I’m looking forward to being a Brown.”
Bess had a lot of success in Miami, but it seemed like he fell out of favor with the new Dolphins coaching staff in 2012 and didn’t have the same impact that he had in prior years.

Browns make good move acquiring Bess

Sometimes, the best moves are the ones that arent planned.
The trade to acquire veteran wide receiver Davone Bess might have been one of the best moves the Browns made over the three days of the NFL Draft. Even though he has played five NFL seasons, the Browns count him as part of the draft process.
We view Bess as part of the draft and we were fortunate being able to trade back a couple spots to acquire him, keep the same number of picks and then as you know we were able to take those picks and trade them for future picks, CEO Joe Banner said after the draft concluded. The philosophy really is to treat everything we have, whether its a draft pick, an undrafted free agent, cap space, whatever it is as an asset and try to maximize the value we can get for it.
We took our fourth round pick for example, traded back to pay for part of Bess and then traded that for a future third round pick, he said. We feel like, for a fourth round pick thats about as much value as you can possibly hope to get.
Hes a good player,

Dolphins pass on Ryan Swope for a kicker?

Texas A&M fans know the connection Miami Dolphins Ryan Tannehill had with Ryan Swope. Swope was Tannehill’s escape value at A&M, because when everyone else was covered, Swope was open. So it’s no wonder why as the 2013 NFL draft closed in that many draft analysts mocked Tannehill to the Dolphins. The drum beat became even louder when the Dolphins traded away Davone Bess to the Cleveland Browns, but when the Dolphins had their best shot to draft Swope at 166 in the fifth-round...
Browns acquire Bess in trade

The Miami Dolphins have traded Davone Bess to the Cleveland Browns, according to Omar Kelly of the Sun-Sentinel. The trade was essentially the Dolphins swapping fourth (pick 14) and fifth (13) round pick for the Browns fourth (7) and fifth rounders (6). Bess was on the way out so Miami obviously was just trying to get something for him. They are also saving a lot of money. Bess' contract this year was worth $2.67 million, so the Dolphins now have more cap room. Bess would have been the fourth receiver on Miami's depth chart. It will be interesting to see what the Dolphins do in the draft. Will they get a slot receiver to replace Bess, or are they happy with where they are now? What do you guys think about this?
With the NFL Draft only hours away, the Miami Dolphins are actively shopping wide receiver Davone Bess, according to Jeff Darlington of
NFL.com.

The Dolphins have been discussing the idea of trading Bess
for the past month, but they have only recently been actively shopping the wide

reportedly several teams interested in Bess.

the Cleveland Browns are “seriously considering” a trade for Bess. He adds that
there are “several teams in the mix” for the wide receiver.

Davone Bess most likely on his way out of Miami

Hard working, classy, reliable...all traits associated with Miami Dolphins WR Davone Bess. The undrafted free agent wide receiver from Hawii is rumored to be on his way out from Miami. Davone Bess a fan favorite had been rumored all summer to be a possible trade target and as the draft approaches us tomorrow nigh it appears it might now be a reality.

Davone Bess on the trade block?

This one is a little surprising. The Miami Dolphins are apparently shopping Davone Bess, and according to Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times the Browns are "seriously considering" trading for him. After the additions of Mike Wallace and Brandon Gibson, Bess was moved to fourth on the depth chart. He is scheduled to make $2.5 million this year, and it wouldn't make too much sense to pay your fourth best receiver that kind of money. I am hoping that the Dolphins are able to make the trade and get a pick (or two) in return for Bess. I like Bess, but his contract is up after this year and he isn't expected to re-sign with Miami. This way we get some draft pick in return for a receiver who we won't use all that much. This has been a busy day for the Dolphins. Let's see if anything happens tonight or tomorrow. #Browns obviously have glaring need at receiver and #Dolphins are in pretty solid shape. Davone Bess had 61 catches for 778 yards in 2012.

WR Davone Bess is a solid player but let’s not get crazy; I’m hearing mid-round picks being discussed.
