Broncos RB Lance Ball Signs His Free-Agent Tender

Restricted free agent running back Lance Ball signed his tender with the Denver Broncos, the team announced Monday.

The diminutive but powerful tailback rushed for 158 yards on 42 carries last season as he spelled Willis McGahee and Knowshon Moreno.

Ball has bounced around the league since coming out of Maryland. Originally a college free agent with St. Louis, he made the Rams' practice squad in 2008 before joining Indianapolis that year and making the Colts' active roster for the regular season finale. He also spent time on Tennessee's practice squad before latching on with the Broncos for the last three seasons.

FANTASY FOOTBALL ANALYSIS
Just when you thought former first round pick, Knowshon Moreno, was done in the NFL, Willis McGahee goes and injures himself in the middle of the year. So without a great second option, the Bronco’s turn to a back that was drafted under the old regime and called upon to carry the load. Not many thought Moreno could come in and produce like McGahee had, but he sure did and opened some eyes in the process. He actually played well and tough, not at all like we had seen in previous attempts. He was reinventing himself on the field, and his time away during the early part of the season must have done some good. There were actually reports that he was coming off of the practice squad when McGahee suffered his injury. I don’t believe that was entirely true, I do however think he was with the practice squad earlier in the year while he was getting healthy...

Week 12 Game Balls: Broncos 17, Chiefs 9

Broncos 17, Chiefs 9 — you know what a victory means, fellas. Give out your BT Game Balls!

RB Knowshon Moreno.

I will be the first one to say (and most obvious), this guy hasn’t had a play of significance since he fumbled back in Week Two. He hasn’t had a decent game since Week Thirteen of 2010 (which just so happened to be against the Kansas City Chiefs), when he ran for 161 yards. It became clear throughout the game with an average of 4.2 yards on 20 carries for 85 yards and four receptions for 26 yards.

As the Denver Broncos randomly inserted rookie Ronnie Hillman sporadically throughout the game. Hillman did break one off for ten yards, but was basically worthless for the rest of his carries. What became very apparent as Moreno continued to play was that the Broncos’ coaches do not trust Hillman to block and they do not trust Lance Ball to hold onto the ball.
Moreno may be it for us Denver fans, it may be time to stop complaining and learn to love the bomb. Especially sin...

Thinking Forward: Week 13 For 2012 Fantasy Football

With the majority of trade deadlines closing last week, I thought it best to move on to a subject we all know is important but sometimes we have a hard time looking beyond the week at hand. With thinking forward, I’m going to do my best to pander to those who are playoff bound and may have room on their bench to look beyond the week at hand. Some of it will be grabbing the player who will be virtually ignored until he or she – hey, it could happen some day people - does something this week. Others will be a wait and see call. And others will be a look at those who have good matchups who could perform the following week and are a good stash for the time being. So without further ado, let’s put on our x-ray glasses – you know, those kind that help you see into the future – and see what we can see for beyond week 12 for 2012 fantasy football…
Knowshon Moreno - I don’t even have to look at your league. If it’s competitive enough, Ronnie Hillman will gone as you read this as the top

Broncos seek to shore up turnover problem

(Eds: Adds details, quotes. With AP Photos.) By EDDIE PELLS AP National Writer It's the same drill in almost every football game: The ball hits the ground, players follow. Fingers get pried, eyes gouged, sometimes worse. Eventually, a referee dives into the pile trying to figure out who's at the bottom with his arms around the ball.

So far in 2012, that player is almost certainly not a member of the Denver Broncos.

Over their first five games, the Broncos have scrapped for 13 fumbles - seven by their own offense, six when the defense is on the field. Of those 13, the Broncos have recovered two.

''It's correctable,'' coach John Fox said of the Broncos' growing turnover problem. ''But you've got to get it corrected.''

Fox said they'll put more focus on that starting Thursday, when they return to practice to get ready for next Monday's game at San Diego.

Part of Denver's turnover problem is luck, part of it is not being at the right place at th

Broncos lose to Chiefs 3-7 in season finale

Denver Broncos' Tim Tebow pitches the ball to teammate Lance Ball while playing against the Kansas City Chiefs during their NFL football game in Denver, Colorado January 1, 2012. (REUTERS/Mark Leffingwell)
Whatever swagger the Denver Broncos had following their six-game win streak has flown out the window. The offensively offense-less Broncos lost 3-7 to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 17, dropping their third straight game to finish the 2011 season 8-8.
Tim Tebow‘s fourth quarter magic has been noticeably missing of late. Two late-game comeback opportunities — the staple of the Tebow era in Denver — evaded the Broncos QB today as his last pass was intercepted with a few dozen seconds left in the game. His fumble in the second quarter within striking distance of the Chiefs’ end zone was an even larger game-killer. Tebow finished 6 for 22 for 60 yards and an interception.
The defense held Kansas City to seven points, and the special teams recovered a muffed punt that setup the Br...

Broncos Stumble And Fumble In Loss To Patriots

What difference can 15 minutes make? In the world of NFL football the answer for the Denver Broncos is, a lot. That is especially true when your opponent is the vaunted New England Patriots.

In the second quarter of Sunday’s game, the Broncos turned the ball over three times, executed only seven offensive plays for 42 yards, surrendered 151 yards to the Patriots’ Tom Brady-led offense and allowed New England to hang 20 points on the scoreboard.

Denver (8-6) fell to New England (11-3) by a final score of 41-23.

The Broncos’ repeated second quarter mistakes ultimately proved their undoing. Call it a learning experience for the young Broncos.

Playing a team whose offense operates with the precision of a Swiss watch allows no room for such ineptitude, even if for only 15 minutes.

“The turnovers were really the big difference. You're not going to be minus-three against the New England Patriots and win very many ball games,” said Denver Head Coach John Fox after the game...

Broncos’ RB Lance Ball may start Thursday

Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow calls running back Lance Ball a "powerful runner." (Image courtesy of Dave Kaup/Reuters)
Fantasy Football owners take note, with starter Willis McGahee recovering from a strained hamstring, Denver may give third year back Lance Ball the start at tailback tomorrow night against the Jets’ run defense that has allowed 16.7 points a game to backs this season and 1,044 yards on the ground.
McGahee has been limited in practice in back-to-back days and coach John Fox noted that he is on a “day-to-day” status. If McGahee cannot go, Ball will get the first start of his career.
A player who we’ve highlighted for his phenomenal effort, Ball is eager for the opportunity.
“The guy is hungry,” said Eric Studesville, the Broncos’ running backs coach. “He knows the window of opportunity for him might be small, and you’ve got to be ready for it when it’s there. Since I’ve been here, whatever opportunity has opened up he’s made the most of it.”

Broncos’ Offensive Coaches Deserve Kudos for Creativity

Quarterback Tim Tebow #15 of the Denver Broncos hands off to Lance Ball during the game against the Kansas City Chiefs on November 13, 2011 at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. (Photo by Jamie Squire/Getty Ima
Following a game in which the Broncos’ run-to-pass ratio was about 85-to-15 percent, you would probably think their game plan was anything but creative. It appears to have simply been, run (and then run again and again and again).
But it’s the way Denver ran the ball on Sunday that impressed me. The Broncos’ offensive line flat out man handled Kansas City’s defensive line (blowing the Chief’s off of the line of scrimmage), allowing Denver to play power football.
The Broncos coaching staff prepared Denver’s offense and helped them keep Kansas City’s defense on their toes by mixing in creative plays with power plays, resulting in Denver running the ball down KC’s throat. About fourteen minutes into the first quarter, the Broncos ran a triple option play — a common p...

Broncos 17 – Chiefs 10: Game Balls

Broncos 17, Chiefs 10 — a hard-fought, rare win in Arrowhead Stadium is worth a lot of game balls, but we only have a handful to give out. Let’s do that, BTer’s.

Mike McCoy
The emergence of the Broncos’ option offense is a direct result of offensive coordinator Mike McCoy doing what so many thought would be impossible for a professional NFL team: molding an offense to the strengths of quarterback Tim Tebow.
But it wasn’t just the strengths of Tim Tebow that McCoy saw needed emphasizing: the entire offense was due with an overhaul after they surrendered 13 sacks in Tebow’s first two starts. Enter the option, and a run-play ratio of 55:8. The players have bought in.
“It’s something we saw,” said running back Lance Ball. “We were real confident in our running game, with me, Willis, Knowshon, Tim (Tebow), we were all confident. They were kind of on their heels and didn’t know what to expect. We just stayed with it and kept on punching.”
