Detroit Tigers lead-glove outfielder Craig Monroe is currently slated 15th in American League Outfield All-Star Voting with 392,096 votes. Chavez to Miss at Least Three More Weeks

Mets General Manager Omar Minaya said yesterday that outfielder Endy Chavez, who is currently on the disabled list with a strained left hamstring, will miss at least another three weeks. This isn't great news for a Mets outfield that already has Moises Alou out indefinitely and the slumping "My quad hurts...no it's fine" Carlos Beltran. Rookie Carlos Gomez and recently recalled Ricky Ledee have been filling in, but Gomez is overmatched and Ledee is marginally serviceable. Neither can continue to fill in long-term.

Endy Joins Injury List

Trailing 3-2 in the seventh inning last night, Endy stepped up to the plate with 1 out and the bases loaded. Chavez hit into an inning-ending double play, but the disappointment did not end there. About halfway down the first base line, Endy pulled up lame, grabbing his left hamstring and in obvious pain. Chavez will have an MRI today, but if the injury is as severe as it appeared, the outfielder is headed to the DL and will likely miss at least six weeks. Chavez would join Alou and right fielder Shawn Green on the DL, leaving Carlos Gomez, Ben Johnson, and David Newhan as the team's only options in the corner outfield spots. The team could also recall someone from AAA - perhaps Ricky Ledee.
