Trade prospects, and maybe Joba Chamberlain or Phil Hughes to Toronto for Roy Halladay? Hang on to the youngsters, like Jesus Montero and Austin Jackson, and watch the Red Sox get the best pitcher available who is not already in a New York Yankee uniform?
That is the question confronting Yankee General Manager Brian Cashman this winter...

The Value of Mediocrity

I don't want to pick on Let's Talk About Tex Baby, but something he wrote yesterday got me thinking:

We just haven’t had high quality prospects. Who from the Yankee farm system has gone to another organization and become anything more than a mediocre player, other than Soriano who was already a star when we traded him? Nick Johnson? Juan Rivera? These guys are average at best.

The idea that a top flight farm system should be churning out stars is a sentiment I hear qui...

Reporter Is Unamused By Our Tale Of Minor-League **** Hijinks

Recently, Giants farmhand Garrett Broshuis shared the story of his teammate's ****-waggling mating ritual, which Garrett likened to the furious, metronomic beating of a toy drum. And now, the reporter for whom the drum was furiously, metronomically beaten is outraged. Vickie Fulkerson writes for The Day in New London, Conn. She occasionally covers the Connecticut Defenders, the Giants' Double-A affiliate for whom Broshuis — Fulkerson's "favorite Defender" — u...

We can't say we've read this one yet, because we haven't, but we can say that this might be the least possible interesting topic for any baseball fan, including Mets and Yankees fans.

Pretty sure neither one has/was never really accepted by their respective fan bases, and neither one is interesting enough to appeal to anyone else, so the point of this book is a little unclear.

Our favorite part might be where it says "One Season to Remember."

Regardless, here&#...

Detroit Tigers lead-glove outfielder Craig Monroe is currently slated 15th in American League Outfield All-Star Voting with 392,096 votes. Now, I'm not too certain how such an abortion of a baseball player can rack up 392,096 votes when he's hitting at a solid .232 clip with 9 home runs, no steals, and 68 strikeouts. Nothing like putting up a batting average eerily reminiscent of Ricky Ledee, power and strikeout numbers that would make Jose Hernandez proud, and combining that amazing ...

Chavez to Miss at Least Three More Weeks

Mets General Manager Omar Minaya said yesterday that outfielder Endy Chavez, who is currently on the disabled list with a strained left hamstring, will miss at least another three weeks.

This isn't great news for a Mets outfield that already has Moises Alou out indefinitely and the slumping "My quad hurts...no it's fine" Carlos Beltran. Rookie Carlos Gomez and recently recalled Ricky Ledee have been filling in, but Gomez is overmatched and Ledee is marginally serviceable. Neither can continue to fill in long-term.

Endy Joins Injury List

Trailing 3-2 in the seventh inning last night, Endy stepped up to the plate with 1 out and the bases loaded. Chavez hit into an inning-ending double play, but the disappointment did not end there. About halfway down the first base line, Endy pulled up lame, grabbing his left hamstring and in obvious pain. Chavez will have an MRI today, but if the injury is as severe as it appeared, the outfielder is headed to the DL and will likely miss at least six weeks.

Chavez would join Alou and right fielder Shawn Green on the DL, leaving Carlos Gomez, Ben Johnson, and David Newhan as the team's only options in the corner outfield spots. The team could also recall someone from AAA - perhaps Ricky Ledee.
