Yorgey of Bridgeport, PA has a record of 26-2-1 with 12 knockouts and is looking to get back into title contention.
Yorgey was undefeated in his first twenty three bouts (22-0-1) with big wins over Ronnie Warrior Jr. (11-0-1); Jason LeHoullier (21-0-1) & Ronald Hearns (21-0) before losing to heralded Alfredo Angulo. The crowd went into an uproar as soon as the bagpipes sounded to signal Monaghan's walk into the ring, and they didn't let up for the entire contest. Monaghan jumped on Johnson from the opening bell, scoring with hard combinations to both the body and head. Johnson showed that he came to fight though, choosing to stand toe-to-toe with the heavy-handed Monaghan.
Monaghan, who is known for his aggressive nonstop action style, switched things midway through the fight, showing another dimension to his arsenal by bo...

Leonard, Hagler, Pryor inducted into boxing hall

Al Bernstein stood in front of a thousand fans as he accepted his commemorative ring, and then took the podium at the 23rd International Boxing Hall of Fame's induction ceremony on Sunday.

Behind Bernstein sat a ''who's who'' of boxing legends, including Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler and Aaron Pryor. Bernstein, the noted boxing analyst for Showtime, was one of the six living members of this year's induction class, which featured the likes of Thomas ''The Hitman'' Hearns and Mark ''Too Sharp'' Johnson.

As he began his speech, Bernstein glanced at the greats behind him and was humbled.

''This Hall of Fame is essentially for the great boxers you see on this stage,'' Bernstein said. ''It is built for them. It is their house. This Hall of Fame is very generous in the way it welcomes those of us who filled another function for boxing. I take this as a supreme honor that I'm allowed to be a part of this place that is so spe

Interview Q&A with undefeated Thomas Oosthuizen

Tonight well-spoken and articulate South African IBO super middleweight champion Thomas "Tommy Gun'' Oosthuizen (18-0-1, 13 KOs) will meet dangerous ShoBox veteran Marcus "Too Much" Johnson (21-1, 15 KOs), of Houston, Texas, in the 10-round super middleweight co-featured bout on ShoBox: The New Generation live on Showtime tonight, Friday, April 27, at 11 p.m. ET/PT from the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Okla.
This will be the second United States fight for Oosthuizen, who won a unanimous decision over Aaron Pryor Jr., in his stateside debut on Sept. 3, 2011, in Biloxi, Miss. Right here, you can find a quick interview Q&A with the rising prospect and contender.

Fans will see a familiar face or two in Oosthuizen's corner, led by manager/trainer Harold Volbrecht, the former No. 1 ranked welterweight contender and former South African welterweight champion and Brian Mitchell, the former WBA and IBF 130-pound world champion ...

Oosthuizen, Johnson headline ShoBox

Undefeated South African super middleweight contender Thomas "Tommy Gun" Oosthuizen (18-0-1, 13 KOs) will take on once-defeated Marcus "Too Much" Johnson (21-1, 15 KOs) in the main event of a double-header on ShoBox at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT on Friday. The fight will be held at the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Okla.

Oosthuizen, the freakishly tall southpaw from Boksburg, Gauteng, South Africa, is on a slow and steady march toward a world title. Standing 6-foot-4, Oosthuizen's long reach and decent power present a difficult problem to solve. He has fought the majority of his career in South Africa, and made his American debut last September on the undercard of Andre Berto's technical stoppage victory over Jan Zaveck in September, scoring a unanimous decision victory over Aaron Pryor Jr. A victory over Johnson, another well-regarded prospect, puts him one step closer to a world title shot.

After comfortably dispatching of a long line of club fighters and perennial opponents, Johnson

Flyweight champ Pongsaklek dethroned by Sonny Boy Jaro in 6th round

Flyweight Great Pongsaklek Wongjongkam Dethroned!
Big news out of Thailand on Friday, as longtime flyweight kingpin Pongsaklek Wonjongkam was stopped in the 6th round by unsung challenger Sonny Boy Jaro of the Philippines. Jaro, now 34-10-5, controlled most of the bout, flooring Pongsaklek, now 83-4-2, in rounds one and three, before Jaro dropped the hammer in the fatal 6th. Pongsaklek was beaten into submission against the ropes in a finish that conjured up images of Aaron Pryor smashing Alexis Arguello into defeat.

An early leading candidate for Upset of the Year, Jaro had shown himself to be a capable fighter during his 10-year career, but one who had come up decidedly short against the best. Among his 10 defeats are 7 stoppage losses, including a one-round loss to Giovani Segura in 2009. After consecutive losses to Oscar Ibarra (KO by 2) and 4-fight neophyte Hirofumi Mukai in 2010-2011, his career appeared to be winding down.

Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing in association with GYM INC. presented the 5th installment of "BOXEO AMERICA" broadcast live this past Saturday December 10th, from the Bell Center in Montreal Canada on the Azteca America network and once again a major upset took place in the main event as former WBA Jr. Middleweight champion Joachim Alcine (33-2-1 19KO) won a spirited 12 round majority decision over hometown hero David Lemieux (25-2 24KO) capturing the WBC Intercontinental Middleweight championship.
Lemieux started out strong rocking Alcine in the first round and continued being the aggressor for the next couple of rounds. Alcine started to fight his way back into the fight in the fourth round using a strong jab, good counterpunches, and slick movement.
Alcine rocked Lemieux in the fifth round with a big right hand but David kept applying the pressure as the bout wore into the championship rounds. It was mostly a give and take affair but in the end Alcine p...

Dyah Times Breed Big 2011 For Davis

(Dyah Davis poses with his father after his win over Marcus Johnson; credit Tom Casino, Showtime)The tail end of 2010 saw the end to a wrenching, multi-generational grudge match spanning decades. Having suffered a defeat at the hands of Aaron Pryor Jr., the future of super middleweight Dyah Davis -- whose father had crossed paths with Pryor's -- remained unclear. The Coconut Creek, Fla. native quietly rebounded with an impressive 2011, going 2-0-1 with a signature victory over then unbeaten and highly regarded Marcus “Too Much” Johnson in a ShoBox 10-round headliner in April. Slated to fight former Kelly Pavlik adversary Alfonso Lopez in the co-featured bout on ESPN Friday Night Fights’ season opener on Jan. 6, Davis is looking to carry his momentum into the new year.
