Top 5 opponents for Andre Ward

Andre Ward's resounding stoppage victory over Chad Dawson confirmed his dominance over every boxer in the world between 160 and 175 lbs, but it also created a problem for him: where does he go now to find the kind of exciting, challenging fights that guarantee PPV buys and the lucrative paydays that go with them? Ward had already cleaned out the top half of the super middleweight division, and in defeating Dawson he toppled the top dog of the light heavyweight division as well. What remains for him to do?
Ward now shares the same problem as the Klitschko brothers, in that all three sit astride their respective domains like giants. None of the three has a dangerous challenger in sight, and although Ward's crowd-pleasing style partially overcomes that problem and helps to keep attention focused on him, it still raises the question of who might come next for Andre "S.O.G." Ward.

Edwin Rodriguez ready to step in for Andre Dirrell & fight for vacant WBC strap

Undefeated super middleweight contender Edwin "La Bomba" Rodriguez is ready, willing and able to replace No. 1 contender Anthony Dirrell, who was recently injured in a motorcycle accident, and fight No. 2 rated Nikola Sjekloca for the vacant World Boxing Council ("WBC") 168-pound title.
Sjekloca and Dirrell, who is out of action for a reported six months, were ordered to fight for the WBC title, after Andre Ward was declared "Champion in Recess."

"This is why I signed with Lou DiBella," Rodriguez said from Andy Lee's training camp where he is sparring with the Irish middleweight contender. "It's my time and I'm ready to replace Dirrell against Sjekloca. If anybody can get this opportunity for me it's Lou."

WBC strips Andre Ward of title

The WBC has elected to strip Andre Ward of his WBC super middleweight title and has sanctioned a bout between No. 1-ranked Anthony Dirrell (24-0, 21 KOs) and No. 3-ranked Nikola Sjekloca (24-0, 7 KOs) for the world title.

Ward, who injured his hand in the Showtime Super Six World Boxing Classic final in December, has still not announced his next move. The WBC claims the hand injury is the reason for their move, which they are calling "promoting to champion in recess," yet Ward has stated his hand has healed.

Ward fought his way through the Super Six tournament to win two world titles and a place among the best in the sport, and the WBC was happy to include their title in the tournament. But as quick as they agreed to allow their title into a big-money tournament that could have (and did) last two years, they took it away from its rightful owner in favor of an immediate stimulus of cash.

This isn't the first time the WBC has bent its own rules to remove a semi-inactive champion from his post b

2011 UBO Boxing Awards

2011 proved to be a great year for the Universal Boxing Organization™. With significant names such as Roy Jones Jr., Anthony Dirrell and Jo Jo Dan fighting for UBO titles, and with more activity than ever before, it was once again confirmed that boxers, managers, promoters and commissions all over the world enjoy working with us. As has become an annual tradition, we start off the New Year with our UBO Boxing Awards. More so than ever it was difficult to choose in almost all categories, as so many worthy boxers and non-participants were involved in UBO title fights in 2011.
Andre Ward vs. Carl Froch: Super Six Final Round by Round

The Super Six World Boxing Classic finale on Showtime is about to get underway. The broadcast starts at 9:00 pm EST, so check back here for updates.
The broadcast for the final has begun, I'm not sure how much buildup there will be leading up to the actual fight, but as far as I know it's the only fight on the card.
Gus Johnson, tonight's MC, tells us that Froch is a 3-1 underdog. Jimmy Lennon Jr. is in the ring to introduce both fighters. The fight should begin in about ten minutes.
Lucian Bute is in the house as is Anthony Dirrell, both who are potential opponents for tonight's winner.
They're still going through fanfare. I'd give it another 10 minutes until the fighters are in the ring.
