BJ Flores: I want Marco Huck, and when I beat him, it will be a shocker for everyone

On Friday night October 6th, Number-one WBO world rated cruiserweight and NABA, NABO and WBC continental Americas champ BJ Flores (28-1-1, 18 KO’s) scored another knockout victory when he stopped once-beaten David McNemar in front of a packed house at the Shrine Mosque in Springfield Missouri. Flores has now set his sights on highly regarded WBO champion Marco Huck of Germany.
“He is the champion and I am WBO #1 challenger. It’s no secret this is a fight I have wanted for a very long time”, said Flores

Credit: Team Flores

Over the last fourteen months, Flores has fought four times and looked very good in those outings. Flores has shown good power by knocking out 3 of his last 4 opponents and scoring multiple knockdowns in those fights. Flores says, "I know I needed to get better and improve. In order to be successful in this game you have to stay active and stay busy.
BJ Flores in action tomorrow night against new opponent McNemar

Once-beaten David McNemar has stepped in for the injured Ahmed Samir and will take on world rated BJ Flores in a ten round Cruiserweight bout that will be contested for the NABA and NABO titles at the Shrine Mosque.
McNemar of Parkersburg, West Virginia has a record of 13-1 with ten knockouts, is coming off his lone defeat which was a razor thin unanimous decision to undefeated and world ranked Ryan Coyne (16-0) on June 25, 2011.

The decision was close to the point that the verdict was booed in Coyne’s hometown of St. Louis.
This will be the fourth fight in fifteen months for Flores (27-1-1, 17 KO’s) as he has scored stoppages over Nick Iannuzzi (16-2) & in his last bout he stopped Hugo Pineda (39-5-1) on January 28th in Springfield.
“I am looking forward to fighting in front of my hometown fans again,” said Flores.

Quick Jabs: Olympics Edition

With the London Olympics opening ceremony kicking off Friday, Alex McClintock has written a couple advance items on the boxing picture already for TQBR, but we're just getting started: We'll have coverage of Olympic boxing all throughout the Games, from features on the ladies to some historical look backs and more and more and more, all in conjuction with us being a part of the Guardian, U.K.'s Olympics experts' network. But as with pro boxing, there's always stuff that doesn't amount to being worthy of a whole danged blog post, so this week we'll have a regular Quick Jabs to sweep up the pro tidbits AND -- right this second -- we'll have an Olympics-focused edition. You can read about who's doing the television commentary, what Floyd Mayweather said to one of the U.S. team members and who's looking ahead to turning pro and when and how.

NBC Sports Fight Night series to expand in 2013 with up to 16 fight cards

Several Cards May Get NBC Network Broadcasts
NBC Sports Group will partner with Main Events to produce a second season of the network's successful primetime boxing series Fight Night. The Saturday night boxing series will expand from six telecasts to-up-to 16 and will showcase compelling match-ups between some of the world's best fighters.
NBC Sports Group will continue to work with Main Events and Hall-of-Fame matchmaker J Russell Peltz, to once again feature a multi-promoter strategy for the series. Designed to produce the best quality fights, the collaboration allows any promoter the opportunity to get their boxers involved in these programs and allows viewers the ability to see world class match-ups that would not otherwise take place.
"We are once again reaching out to all promoters to get involved in the series." said Kathy Duva, president, Main Events. "The multiple promoter format worked incredibly well during season one and we are hoping...

Flores wants a piece of Kayode: It’s no secret I’ve wanted the fight for a long time

#2 WBO; #4WBA #4WBC world rated cruiserweight BJ Flores 27-1 (18kos) watched intently as the fight this past Saturday took place between Lateef "Power" Kayode vs. Antonio Tarver. He was hoping with the Showtime exposure that one of the two boxers would emerge as a star.
The bout ended in a draw. Neither guy moved forward, yet both received valuable tv time on a BIG time boxing network. BJ Flores was smiling.

"The cruiserweight division is definitely starting to heat up", Said Flores. Flores has been not only one of the most active cruiserweights in the world scoring 3 wins in the last 8 months, but has attracted very large gates in Springfield Missouri where he has a HUGE hometown following.
“Both guys fought well and Tarver started a little slow but came on down the stretch. He definitely Hurt Kayode and showed he can still punch. The decision being a draw was just. I was leaning towards Tarver but this fight was good for the division. Bo...

Spinks and Flores Win in Springfield

Five-time world champion Cory Spinks won a unanimous decision over Sechew Powell on Saturday at the Shrine Mosque in Springfield, Mo., in an elimination bout to determine the IBF junior middleweight No. 1 ranking, and hometown cruiserweight B.J. Flores moved closer to a world title match by stopping Colombian veteran Hugo Pineda. Spinks (39-6, 11 KOs), a former undisputed welterweight champion and subsequent two-time IBF junior middleweight champion, had been thought by some to be near the end of his career after losing the IBF 154-pound crown to Cornelius “K9” Bundrage in 2010.
The Week's Boxing Schedule, Featuring Ruslan Provodnikov, Cory Spinks, Jackie Nava, Brian Minto ...

Like poor old Jilted John, boxing fans don't have much to do this week. Come to think of it, being a committed follower of the sweet science is a bit like having a girlfriend. Both tend to take up your Friday and Saturday nights. When they're there, you think about how much free time you'd have if they weren't around, but once they're gone you don't know how to fill the hours. Oh well, what are you going to do? “Cry all the way to the chip shop?” It's not that there's nothing on this week, there's just not very much. Russian junior welterweight fun machine Ruslan Provodnikov is fighting on ESPN, along with Korean fun machine Ji-Hoon Kim. Big night for fun machines. BJ Flores and Cory Spinks are bothing fighting in a mosque in Missouri and Brian Minto is fighting on gofightlive.tv. So in this stretched and twisted boxing/relationship analogy, it's not a week for deep and meaningful conversations, but rather shallow and meaningless f...

Low Profile Fights In January May Give Us Something To Talk About

The beginning of the boxing year tends to start slow, and generally tends to build its way up as the year goes on, while we await for boxing's first big fight. Networks usually take advantage of the break in between the NFL conference title games and the Super Bowl. With HBO recently having to postpone their Houston doubleheader that was scheduled for January 28, there are no big fights or big name fighters to grab the headlines and get the media and fans excited about boxing. December is usually a slow month, but this year we had a jammed packed end of the year fight schedule. Sure there are no Morales vs. Garcia and Kirkland vs. Molina fights to end the month, but the first month of 2012 does supply plenty of intriguing matchups that should get us talking about the sport we love.

This Friday night is the official start of ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights. The card has some really good matchups that should be very be entertaining and at the same time revealing. In the main event we have an intriguing ma

Mansour vs. Mendoza: Don’t Blink!
