Keith Thurman dominates veteran Carlos Quintana

Ontario, Calif. -- Rising star Keith "One Time" Thurman (19-0, 18 KOs) continued his climb up the boxing ranks, delivering an impressive knockout win over veteran Carlos Quintana (29-4) on the undercard of the Andre Berto-Robert Guerrero fight at Citizens Business Bank Arena.

Thurman has been quickly developing a reputation as a fearsome power puncher -- a reputation that seemed to carry itself into the ring Saturday night if one were to read into the highly cautious approach of Quintana.

In Round One, Quintana immediately began circling Thurman, wary of his power. When he did throw his jab it was delivered in a pawing, non-committal manner, perhaps out of fear that he might get caught in return.

Unfortunately for Quintana, his fears were quickly realized.

The stalking Thurman nailed Quintana with a brutal left hook to the body that put him on the canvas. Quintana struggled to make the ten count, finishing the first round in full retreat.

CARLOS QUINTANA CALLS OUT CANELO ALVAREZ

FORMER PUERTO RICAN WORLD CHAMPION LOOKING TO CONTINUE
PUERTO RICO VS. MEXICO RIVALRY

"I will defeat Canelo on Mexican Independence Day in front of his countrymen!"

Fresh off his revitalizing victory over DeAndre Latimore as part of the Mayweather-Cotto undercard on May 5, at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, NV, Puerto Rico's Carlos "El Indio" Quintana is ready to take down Mexico's next rising Golden Boy, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, who holds the WBC junior middleweight title.
With no set opponent being named yet as a replacement to take on Alvarez in his upcoming defense on September 15 (Mexican Independence Day), former WBO welterweight world champion Quintana is looking to throw his name into the hat. Canelo's original opponent, Paul "The Punisher" Williams, was forced to pull out after tragically suffering career-ending injuries resulting from a motorcycle accident.
Paul Williams' most memorable fights

Paul Williams was one of the most avoided fighters of his generation, a two-time WBO welterweight champ with a 41-2 record, and was feared not only for his imposing size and reach advantages, but also for his punch output.

Yet Williams was notorious for having difficulties with fellow southpaws, and his career was highlighted not only by notable wins but also by some less-than-stellar performances.

With Williams' career likely over after a motorcycle accident last weekend left him paralyzed from the waist down, we look back at The Punisher's most memorable moments.

Antonio Margarito (2007) Margarito was a feared welterweight champion making the eighth defense of his WBO title in July 2007 at Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. The Tijuana Tornado was the justifiable pick as a 6-to-5 favorite, but the Punisher ratcheted up the volume on his already high shot output, averaging more than 100 punches per round, smothering Margarito's work on the ropes and in the center of the ring.

Paul Williams On The Ropes

The man was known as the most feared prize fighter in the sport for a time. The 6’1” southpaw, sporting the wingspan of a small passenger jet, was the kind of imposing figure that few were willing touch with a 10 foot pole. In fact, such was his size that you might figure on having that 10 foot pole just to reach him. It was with these lengthy concerns that Paul Williams, the affable Aiken, South Carolina native, found much of the challenge in his career. His biggest victory was often just getting opponents into the ring. Corralling competition aside, what made him all the more enigmatic a fighter over the course of his time in the spotlight and upper echelon of the sport was that his fighting style seemed to belie the very attributes that made him such a daunting prospect to face. Instead of using that abnormal length for a 147-pounder, Williams liked to get close and bang away inside. Instead of standing tall and pumping out a jab, “The Punisher” preferred to crouch low and t...

Boxer Paul Williams paralyzed after motorcycle accident

Boxer Paul Williams, who recently signed a lucrative contract to fight Saul (Canelo) Alvarez on Sept. 15 in Las Vegas, was seriously injured from a motorcycle accident near Atlanta. Preliminary reports said the fighter is paralyzed from the waist down— after crashing the bike early Sunday morning— and his career is over.

Nicknamed the "Punisher" because of his incredible work-rate, Williams is scheduled to have surgery on Wednesday to stabilize his spinal column— which suffered traumatic damage, according to his longtime manager George Peterson.

The two-time welterweight champion is facing the career-ending injury after he reportedly swerved to avoid contact with a vehicle after driving back from his brother's bachelor party around 7 a.m. on Sunday.

Peterson said Williams flew about "65 feet into the air." "He was doing about 75 mph on the motorcycle. When he came down on his back he severed his spinal cord. He's paralyzed from the waist down. In ter

Carlos Quintana & DeMarcus Corley both score upset KOs

BE CONGRATULATES QUINTANA AND CORLEY ON KO VICTORIES
This past Saturday, two of DiBella Entertainment's former world champions, Carlos "El Indio" Quintana and DeMarcus "Chop Chop" Corley, both traveled to their opponent's hometown to score impressive upset knockout victories. Ironically, in both bouts, all four boxers were southpaws.
Ending a near 15-month layoff, Moca, Puerto Rico's Quintana, 35, faced Las Vegas resident and former world title challenger DeAndre Latimore in the opening bout of the HBO PPV televised undercard to Mayweather-Cotto, staged at the MGM Grand. Quintana, who held the WBO welterweight title in 2008, knocked out Latimore in the sixth round.
The 37-year-old Corley, of Washington, D.C., flew to Belfast, Northern Ireland, taking on hometown favorite and former European champion Paul McCloskey, in the main event of a card promoted by Matchroom Sport. Entering the ring as a 7-1 underdog, Corley, the former WBO junior ...

Mayweather vs. Cotto Results: Floyd Mayweather Jr. remains perfect

"Invincible men only exist in movies" - Pedro Diaz (Cotto's trainer) I could've sworn I saw one standing across from his fighter last night in Fight City, Nevada. Floyd Mayweather Jr. ran his record up to 43-0 last night inside of the MGM Grand Garden Arena with a unanimous decision (117-111 x 2, 118-110) over now former WBA Super Welterweight champion Miguel Cotto (37-3). Cotto brought the volume but he couldn't match it with accuracy. That may have to do with the matrix like head movement of his opponent. From a bird eyes view it may have seemed to some that Cotto actually got the better of Mayweather last night in Vegas. He had "Money" against the ropes for the majority of the fight landing a plethora of body shots before, and after throwing at his opponent's head. The problem was that the shots to the head just weren't landing. Credit to Cotto, he brought the fight to Mayweather. Making his walk to the ring with a entourage that...

Running Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Vs. Miguel Cotto Undercard Results

Keep coming back here for running updates on the pay-per-view undercard for Floyd Mayweather vs. Miguel Cotto. It's a mostly crappy affair, but I somewhat like the Deandre Latimore-Carlos Quintana junior middleweight scrap, and some have high hopes for another junior middleweight bout between Saul Alvarez and Shane Mosley.

In a nice opening bout, Carlos Quintana dished out five damaging left hands to Deandre Latimore in the 6th round to put him down for the count, and it's the best win for Quintana since 2008's upset of Paul Williams. Quintana tends to get stopped by people who can punch (Williams in the rematch, Miguel Cotto, Andre Berto) but he withstood Latimore's own significant power in the first few rounds. Then, he used his boxing skills -- better, despite some wear and tear over the years, than anything Latimore's ever shown -- to jab Latimore's brain into a state of confusion. Latimore was live even as Quintana took over because of his power, but...

Deandre Latimore vs. Carlos Quintana: Round By Round

Floyd Mayweather and Miguel Cotto will face off in just a few hours from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. It's most likely the biggest fight of the year, but we've got three bouts before we get to the big one.First up is a 154-pound bout between Deandre Latimore and Carlos Quintana. The tale of the tape shows that Quintana is slightly taller and rangier, but Latimore is nine years younger. He's also a more natural fit for this weight, while Quintana campaigned for most of his career at 140 pounds.Kenny Bayless is the referee for this one. Latimore is 23-3 with 17 KOs, while Quintana comes in with a pro record of 28-3 with 22 KOs.Michael Buffer does the official introductions, and we're all set for a scheduled 10 rounds of boxing.Round 1Quintana moves from side to side while Latimore tries to track him down. Both men try rangefinding jabs. Latimore bangs to the head and body along the ropes, but Quintana fights his way out. Good combination punching by Quintana back in the center of the ring.
Mayweather-Cotto undercard is official: Vargas-Gomez & Latimore-Quintana

The "Ring Kings: Mayweather vs. Cotto" pay-per-view card is set, and two additional fights which have been rumored have now been made official to support the headling Floyd Mayweather vs. Miguel Cotto fight, and the co-feature of Saul "Canelo" Alvarez vs. Shane Mosley.
Williams looks to right ship vs. Ishida

Paul Williams once proudly staked his claim to being one of the most avoided boxers in the sport. As a welterweight, his height (6-foot-1) and 82-inch reach made him a handful for anyone in the division. He never had overwhelming one-punch power, but his work rate allowed him to overwhelm his opponents, who were unable to solve the long, rangy puzzle in front of them.

Williams graduated rather quickly from prospect to contender. Still considered a prospect in 2005, he stepped up his level of competition, leading to the biggest win of his career in 2006. The alleged most-avoided man in boxing fought another of the alleged most-avoided, Antonio Margarito. Williams outworked Margarito over 12 non-stop rounds, scoring a unanimous-decision victory and taking the WBO welterweight title.

Paul Williams pre-fight video feature: Lara wasn’t a tough fight

This weekend, Paul Williams will step into the ring in Texas to meet Japanese fighter Nobuhiro Ishida, on the main event of a Showtime Boxing card. Williams has a lot of rebuilding to do, as he's coming off a controversial decision against Erislandy Lara, and before that, was knocked out cold by Sergio Martinez. But what does Williams think about all of that? He thinks he's just fine, and more than that, he (delusionally) believes that the Lara fight wasn't even tough for him. Watch what he has to say in this pre-fight video feature on Paul Williams from Showtime.

In the clip, Williams talks about some of his past fights, including dropping a decision to Carlos Quintana because he wasn't focused, and then coming back to knock him out in one round. He also talks about the Lara fight, saying that it wasn't even tough for him, and that he just got in some lucky punches, also saying, that if you're going to fight, then fight.
Well, the truth of the matter of co...
