Two of the middleweight division's best and most exciting fighters will met as IBF champion Daniel Geale (29-1, 15 KOs) has signed on to defend his title against highly regarded contender Darren Barker (25-1, 16 KO's). The 12-round championship bout will take place at Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York on August 17, 2013, and the event will be televised live on HBO Boxing After Dark.

Geale is fresh off of his redemption win over Anthony Mundine in their January rematch, while Barker has won 2 in a row since his KO loss in what was a very spirited effort against Sergio Martinez. Geale acknowledges that Barker is a tough challenge, but is quick to remind everyone that he has been matched tough for the past few fights in a row. This will be the first time the Australian superstar has fought on American soil.

Geale beats Mundine to defend IBF title

Daniel Geale defended his IBF middleweight title by beating Anthony Mundine by a unanimous points decision Wednesday.

Two judges scored the bout 117-111 in Geale's favor, while the third judge had it 116-112.

The defending champion said he was disappointed not to knock out his opponent, but ''I did enjoy punching him.''

Geale established his dominance from the onset with the 37-year-old Mundine often pegged back throughout the 12 rounds.

It was Geale's fourth title defense.

Daniel Geale Beats Anthony Mundine, Who Is Still A Douchebag

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA -- Daniel Geale dominated Anthony Mundine over 12 rounds at the Sydney Entertainment Centre tonight, winning a wide unanimous decision in their middleweight rematch.

With his victory, by scores of 116-112 and 117-111 twice, Geale (29-1, 15 KO) erases the only loss on his ledger and proves himself the #1 contender to Sergio Martinez' middleweight throne. Mundine, who delusionally complained before the scores were announced and left the ring without giving an interview, proved his complete lack of class and will likely go on to another rematch, with Danny Green, before retiring.

In their May 2009 fight, it was Mundine (44-5, 26 KO) who was the the better puncher and the more astute fighter defensively. From the 1st round in January 2013, the dynamic was reversed. Geale slipped many of Mundine's best punches while answering back with jabs, tripled and doubled; right hands, straight and looping; and a lightning left hook.

Date And Venue Announced For Daniel Geale Vs. Anthony Mundine

(Anthony Mundine, left, faces off with Daniel Geale, right; photo: Alex McClintock)

Daniel Geale will fight Anthony Mundine for the IBF middleweight title on Wednesday January 30 at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. At Tuesday's press conference Mundine dodged questions about retirement plans and accused the IBF and fight judges of favouring Geale.

“I'm gonna beat you boy, the only way I'm going to lose is if they rob me,” said Mundine. “I want all you in the media to score the fight.”

When asked if he would retire if he lost the fight, Mundine said: “I'm not thinking about losing.”

Mundine spent large sections of the press conference talking over a quiet but visibly irritated Geale. When asked if he thought it was time for Mundine to retire, Geale said: “We've been waiting for this fight for a long time and we can't wait. He's getting towards the end now and he knows that.”

Aboriginal boxer Mundine accused of racism

Interim WBA light middleweight champion Anthony Mundine has been accused of racism after making disparaging remarks about the heritage of his upcoming opponent, fellow Australian Aboriginal Daniel Geale.

Mundine said of Tasmanian-born Geale at a pre-fight media conference that he thought ''they wiped all the Aborigines from Tasmania out'' - referencing a colonial-era policy that sought to resettle the indigenous inhabitants of what became an island state south of mainland Australia. Mundine added that Geale had ''a white woman and white kids'', and ''I don't see him representing black or colored people.''

Tasmanian state Aboriginal leader Michael Mansell on Friday described the comments as ''ugly and racist, and an embarrassment to Aboriginal people everywhere.''

Mansell added: ''Racist comments are no less racist because they are made by an Aboriginal against other Aboriginals.''

He was dictating the pace while Geale tried to get into range to launch an attack.Sturm was then aggressor in the early rounds and he was proving to be a hard target for Geale to hit. The German was right on the money with several sharp shots and Geale ended the second round with a small cut on his face.Geale was the aggressor at the start of the third round, but he was still having trouble landing solid blows.
IBF middleweight champion Daniel Geale of Australia defeated Felix Sturm on a split decision to take the German's WBA title in their unification bout on Saturday night.

Judges Stanley Christodoulou and Dave Parris both scored the bout 116-112 in favor of Geale, while Eugene Grant gave it 116-112 to Sturm.

''The judges scored it that way, you have to accept it. That's boxing,'' Sturm said. ''Geale punched more, I landed the cleaner hits ... he boxed superbly, gave all he got.''

Geale also won his IBF belt on a split decision in Germany, and he was making his third defense of the title he won by beating Sebastian Sylvester in Neubrandenburg last May.

The 31-year-old fighter appeared more active throughout, ducking and evading Sturm's heaviest blows though the defending WBA champion managed to deliver some of his powerful left jabs.

Geale was left with a small cut after the second round, while Sturm had a cut under his left eye from the eighth.

Felix Sturm vs. Daniel Geale preview & prediction

Entering the first title unification match of his career—despite being WBA World middleweight champion for over five years—Sturm has gone on record as stating that he’s viewing the upcoming bout with Australia’s Daniel Geale as the biggest of his career. Although that may seem like an overstatement for a man who fought a very game, albeit post-prime, Oscar De La Hoya, it would a very appropriate statement to make about Geale. The 31-year-old holder of the IBF middleweight strap is taking a well-calculated risk in facing Sturm. A victory would undoubtedly be the biggest of his career and would immediately launch Geale into the spotlight and potential higher profile bouts as well.
