Cotto vs. Trout: Fight blog

Miguel Cotto (37-3, 30 KO) vs. Austin Trout (25-0, 14 KO) - 12 Rounds

Round 12:

The final round begins and the crowd is backing Cotto, yelling for blood. Trout is clearly playing the scorecards, tying Cotto up every time Cotto comes too close. Trout still punches though when he has his range. Trout backs Cotto into the corner and deals some damage, but Cotto fights his way out with a brutal uppercut that forces Trout backwards. Cotto feels the vibe with 1 minute to go and knows that he needs to pull the trigger. Trout just isn't giving him the opportunity. The crowd drowns out the announcers and Trout lands a final right hook as a exclamation mark on this affair. But never leave it up to the judges. We shall see.

Score: 10-9 Trout, 117-111 Trout

Official result: Austin Trout wins via unanimous decision (117-111, 117-111, 119-109)

Round 11:

Trout causes another stoppage in action, this time needing extra tape on his gloves before coming out to open the 11th round. As the round progresses, Trout&#39

Salvador Sanchez II (34-4-3, 18 KO) vs. Jayson Velez (19-0, 14 KO) - 10 Rounds

Round 3:

It's round 3 and 3 seconds after the bell, Velez decks Sanchez and sends him back to the canvas. Sanchez seems to not have recovered at all from the minute break between rounds. Sanchez stands up but still appears dazed, and Velez pounces. He nails Sanchez with hooks and uppercuts, leaving Sanchez on jelly legs. With little hesitation the ref steps in to stop the fight.

Official result: Velez wins by TKO 0:38 into Round 3 (Wins WBC Silver Featherweight title)

Round 2:

Velez picks up where he left off, landing series of combinations. a strong 3 punch combo sends Sanchez reeling against the ropes. Velez follows with and uppercut and then unleashes more fury against the ropes. Even the commentators mention Velez is "making it rain". Sanchez is showing a decent chin and even still manages to come forward while getting decked, but Velez is

Running Undercard Results For Miguel Cotto Vs. Austin Trout

NEW YORK CITY -- Arriving slightly late here in storied Madison Square Garden. Usually cards start at 6 p.m., but this one kicked off earlier. Bad planning, Starks. Some have criticized this undercard and I can see why, but I like attending all live fights, so I intend to catch the remainder of them, anyway. As I haven't given up on middleweight Daniel Jacobs -- knockout loss, stomach tumor, whatever, I saw a worthy talent -- I'm interested to observe his progress since he returned to the ring. The other highlights include the Showtime debut of Jayson Velez against fellow featherweight Salvador Sanchez, Jr., plus an appearance from always-entertaining featherweight Jorge Diaz. We go in reverse chronological order:

The fight I missed was John Thompson winning a six-round decision over Eli Agustama. I came in midway through Bronx product Eddie Gomez beating Luis Hernandez in what was a spirited six-round scrap. Gomez controlled the action from what I saw, but Hernandez, ...

The official weigh-ins for the Miguel Cotto vs. Austin Trout junior middleweight title fight were held on Friday afternoon in New York City. Right here, you can view the complete Cotto vs. Trout weigh-in results, including the weights for each fighter, a collection of weigh-in photos, and more.
Weigh-in Photos

Cotto vs. Trout - WBA Junior Middleweight Title

Miguel Cotto: 153.6 lbs
Austin Trout: 154 lbs

Trout initially was just slightly over the limit and then stripped off his clothes and had to step on the scales in his birthday suit, then hit it right on the dot.
The two men squared off after the weigh-in and had a good staredown, and they both look fit and confident, ready to go tomorrow night.
Steve Farhood and Paulie Malignaggi were on hand for the official weigh-ins, and it was a packed crowd filled with tons of fans taking in the festivities. Malignaggi offered his insight on fighting Cotto in Madison Square Garden... of course, that didn't turn out well for him....

The Week’s Boxing Schedule, Featuring Miguel Cotto, David Price And Joan Guzman

It seems appropriate to head the schedule with a “Gangnam Style” video, since the Korean pop sensation became YouTube’s most viewed video ever this week with 831 million views. We’re all terribly sick of it, but that Christmas lights display is pretty cool. Now let’s forget it ever happened, which we were probably going to do anyway.

There’s quite a bit of televised boxing on this weekend, and a lot of it has potential for fun. Miguel Cotto is always fun, which is why we love him so. But apart from that there’s Joan Guzman in an entertaining, tough match-up (WTF), some British heavyweight fights and a lot of low level, high entertainment potential stuff on the Spanish networks.

Migel Cotto vs. Austin Trout, Saturday, Showtime, New York City. Tim will have a proper, full length preview of the week’s biggest fight later in the week. I love to chuck in my two cents, though, so I will. Cotto (37-3, 30 KO) is going to be way too much for Trout (25-0, 14 KO) in this junior m...

Weekend Afterthoughts On What's Next For Danny Garcia, Devon Alexander And Others

First things first: I biffed the preview of Saturday night's Showtime card, plain and simple. I didn't realize it until today, when friend of the site Jake Donovan pointed out that the last "more is better" card wasn't in June, but in September, when the network aired a quadrupleheader that was the best of the three big quadrupleheaders Showtime has aired. Somehow, I had forgotten that was a four-fight card rather than a three-fight card.

Which brings us to Saturday's quadrupleheader: All in all, I ended up quite satisfied with the product. Devon Alexander-Randall Bailey was an abomination against gods of every denomination, but Peter Quillin-Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam was worth sitting through a couple airings of Alexander-Bailey with a migraine, Paulie Malignaggi-Pablo Cesar Cano was also a bloody good time and Angel Garcia-Erik Morales II at least had a big finish, however sad it was. The card had a big pric...

(Sergo Mora, right, battles two-time rival Brian Vera)Perception is reality. Whether something is actually happening or not, if people think it’s happening, then that becomes the reality. Few fighters have dealt with this notion as much as, or been more maligned in the last several years than, Sergio Mora. “It's affecting me in a major way.” Mora has an edge of bitterness in his voice. “That's the reason I don’t have Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, because I have so much hate out there, people just want to spit this nasty **** at me, and they don’t know me,” he says.
Fights on the docket: Garcia-Morales II, Seth Mitchell & Adrien Broner doubleheader in AC

Golden Boy has been busy over the past few days, and there are a lot of potential new fights to add to the docket for the coming months. Looking ahead to October, and the company is planning several different cards, each loaded up with some intriguing names and contests. Here's a rundown of what's been talked about so far.
Danny Garcia vs. Erik Morales II

Credit: Ed Mulholland - HBO

Apparently, the company thinks that Garcia vs. Morales II is a good idea. They are putting the Garcia vs. Morales rematch as the headline event of the opening of the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on October 20, according to RingTV.com.
The rest of the card is going to be filled with Brooklyn fighters, as well as other locals from NYC. The lists includes potentially Paulie Malignaggi, Daniel Jacobs, Peter Quillin, Dmitriy Salita and Eddie Gomez.
Malignaggi was originally slated as the headline fighter, but a high profile opponent suitable to that billing couldn't be readily found.
