Yuriorkis Gamboa vs. Darley Perez official for June 8 on HBO, co-feature to Dawson-Stevenson

Undefeated lightweight contender Darley Perez (28-0, 19 KOs) has signed on to fight explosive Cuban superstar Yuriorkis Gamboa (22-0, 16 KOs) in the co-feature of an HBO telecast taking place on June 8th, live from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada. The main event that evening will be a light heavyweight title tilt between Chad Dawson and Adonis Stevenson. Perez vs. Gamboa is a strong addition to an already stellar night of boxing.
Perez is battletested but Gamboa will be his toughest test to date. A win could put either fighter in line for a major opportunity. Perez knows what is on the line and welcomes the challenge.
For Perez, he feels this step up in competition is coming at the perfect time in his career and he has been ready for this kind of test for quite some time.
"I wouldn't dare take Gamboa lightly, I'll train hard for a tough fight and he'd be well-advised to do the same because I'm a top fighter. I will prove to everyone that I am a world-class f...

Darley Perez & Chris Avalos notch wins on Friday Night Fights

Last night Gary Shaw Productions and Thompson Boxing Promotions' showcased a great show on ESPN2 "Friday Night Fights" at the Morongo Casino Resort and Spa in Cabazon, Calif. The 10-round main event, featuring Columbia's Darley Perez against Houston's Bahodir Mamadjonov ended in a dramatic split decision.
In the early rounds, Mamadjonov used his boxing skills to take a commanding lead, as he kept the fight in the middle of the ring, boxing on angles. He was the busier fighter for the first five rounds, but stated to fade down the stretch after throwing a lot of power punches.
Perez got into his grove in the middle rounds when he started to let his hands go. Perez started to find a home for his overhand right, and in the sixth round, landed it, give a welt on the left cheek bone of Mamadjonov. In round eight, Perez caught Mamadjonov with that same overhand right, sending the Kazakhstan native to the canvas for the first time in his career.

Darley Perez Squeeks By Mamadjonov, Avalos Triumphant

(Bahodir Mamadjonov, left, and Darley Perez, right; Photo: Carlos Baeza/Thompson Boxing)
Good action traced the dusky landscape of Cabazon, Ca. this evening, as this week's Friday Night Fights from Morongo Casino showcased three unbeaten fighters coming for more than a paycheck.
At the end of the night, Colombian lightweight Darley Perez stood victorious over Uzbekistan native Bahodir Mamadjonov, and habitually entertaining junior featherweight Chris Avalos was made to work for a solid win over Yenifel Vicente over 20 total rounds of milling in which two of three men lost the right to be called "undefeated."
It wasn't all Larry Holmes-Ken Norton type of stuff, but it wasn't all John Ruiz-Hasim Rahman nonsense either, and each of the four fighters on the televised card came to win.

Undefeated lightweights Darley Perez & Baha Mamadjonov battle on FNF this week

Undefeated Lightweights Darley Perez (25-0, 19 KOs) and Baha Mamadjonov (11-0, 7 KOs) will meet August 10 in the 10-round main event on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights presented by Corona Extra. Check out a full rundown of the Friday Night Fights card here, along with a video promo for the event.
Main Event:
Perez, a 2008 Olympian for Colombia, is coming off an April second-round knockout win over Alain Hernandez. In September 2011, he TKO’d Oscar Meza in the sixth round.
After that fight ESPN.com’s Dan Rafael wrote, “Perez, who did a good job of setting the pace of the fight, opened a cut over Meza's right eye in the third round and then opened another cut under his left eye with a right hand in the fifth round. Perez was dominating at this point. His speed and power were too much for Meza. After the sixth round, Meza's corner asked the referee to stop the fight.
Uzbekistan’s Mamadjonov won a May second-round TKO over Terrance Roy in his last fight.

The Week’s (Pro) Boxing Schedule, Featuring Darley Perez, Sergio Mora And Hugo Cazares

As you can see by the headlining names, it’s not a big week of professional boxing. I guess boxing promoters and television executives, despite not realizing that counterprogramming each other is a bad idea, realize that counterprogramming the Olympics is a bad idea. Good on them for at least getting that right. As for the video above – future Olympic sport? Could be more entertaining than amateur boxing (at times!).

Darley Perez vs. Bahodir Mamadjonov, Friday, ESPN2, Cabazon Calif. Colombian lightweight Darley Perez takes a step up and a step into the spotlight on Saturday night against Uzbekistan’s Bahodir Mamadjonov. From what I’ve seen, Perez (15-0), a former Olympian and teammate of Yohnny Perez (they like the name in those parts), seems to be a well-schooled orthodox boxer with a pumping jab. Perez was originally slated to fight Michael Katsidis in what would have been a much bigger step up than his Uzbek opponent on Saturday. Mamadjonov (11-0) seems to be a sharp southpa...

Darley Perez scores quick KO win at Path to Glory; Arellano & Reynoso win

WBA #5, IBF #8, WBO #8, WBC #12, undefeated Colombian boxing king Darley Perez improved his record to (25-0, 19 KOs) and impressed the boxing fan-filled ballroom at Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, California when he knocked out Tijuana's Alain "Konan" Hernandez whose record dropped to (18-10-1, 10 KOs) with a four-punch combination 2:59 into the second round of their scheduled 8-round round lightweight fight this past Friday night on Thompson Boxing Promotions' April 6 edition of "Path to Glory". Referee Raul Caiz Jr. stopped the fight without a count as the overwhelmed Hernandez fell through the ropes.
The versatile Perez displayed his orthodox skills in the first round and then quickly switched to a southpaw stance in the second round. As Hernandez made every attempt to come in with his head low Perez responded strong with loaded uppercuts. It was those uppercuts that began the downfall for Hernandez.

Darley Perez back in action at Path to Glory April 6

The return of undefeated Colombian slugger Darley Perez takes place on Thompson Boxing Promotions "PATH TO GLORY" card at Doubletree Hotel in Ontario on Friday, April 6.
After taking down two opponents in nearby Santa Ynez Valley the Colombian lightweight assassin Darley Perez (24-0, 18 KOs) takes on Tijuana's Alain "Konan" Hernandez (18-9-1, 10 KOs) in the main event scheduled for eight rounds.
Perez, 28, had a three fight knockout streak going until sturdy rock-chinned Fernando Trejo forced a distance fight. That's not unusual. Still, Perez had stopped Oscar Meza, Baudel Cardenas and Wilson Alcorro in their tracks. The Colombian has speed and power and is eager to display them to the always knowledgeable fight crowd at the Doubletree Hotel.
Hernandez, 33, looks to snap a two-fight losing streak when he meets Perez in the ring. His last loss was a five round outing against undefeated former lightweight world champion Paul Spadafora. That's n...
