"When my hand was raised in victory, there were a few emotions going through my mind at that stage; elation and relief," said Geale. "We put in a lot of hard work for this fight and we were very confident traveling over to Germany. We knew we had to put in a massive fight. We are extremely excited how it turned out."

IBF champ Geale beats Sturm

IBF middleweight champion Daniel Geale of Australia defeated Felix Sturm on a split decision to take the German's WBA title in their unification bout on Saturday night.

Judges Stanley Christodoulou and Dave Parris both scored the bout 116-112 in favor of Geale, while Eugene Grant gave it 116-112 to Sturm.

''The judges scored it that way, you have to accept it. That's boxing,'' Sturm said. ''Geale punched more, I landed the cleaner hits ... he boxed superbly, gave all he got.''

Geale also won his IBF belt on a split decision in Germany, and he was making his third defense of the title he won by beating Sebastian Sylvester in Neubrandenburg last May.

The 31-year-old fighter appeared more active throughout, ducking and evading Sturm's heaviest blows though the defending WBA champion managed to deliver some of his powerful left jabs.

Geale was left with a small cut after the second round, while Sturm had a cut under his left eye from the eighth.

IBF middleweight champion Daniel Geale of Australia outpointed Felix Sturm in a split decision to take the German's WBA title in their unification bout Saturday night.

Judges Stanley Christodoulou and Dave Parris scored the bout 116-112 in favor of Geale, and Eugene Grant had it 116-112 to Sturm.

The 31-year-old Geale appeared more active throughout, though Sturm managed to deliver some of his powerful left jabs.

Sensing a close decision, both fighters stepped up the pressure in the final round, which ended in a flurry of punches.

Geale improved to 28-1. The 33-year-old Sturm dropped to 37-3-2 with his first defeat since 2006, when he lost to Javier Castillejo of Spain.

Anthony Crolla Puts Friendship Aside To Whitewash Willie Limond

Photo credit: Shabaz Shafiq -- SW33TSCIENCE
Anthony Crolla shut out Willie Limond in Motherwell on Friday evening in the stingiest way imaginable. In addition, Manchester’s million dollar kid gave the Garthamlock man’s supporters the cold shoulder for the duration of their encounter -- shucks even excitement had the door slammed shut in its face. And at the end of twelve tepid rounds, during which Crolla had held complete command, only Dave Parris showed enough seasonal spirit to award Willie anything at all in judging that the Scotsman had merited a share of a single round.Limond looked like he was wading through treacle in what was, in all likelihood, his final crack at contesting top honours. Crolla maintained pressure thoughout, hunted the body unmercifully and barely took a punch back in anger. It was, in many ways, a melancholy sight to behold. Even the venue appeared to take pity on the home fighter when in the 7th the lights suddenly went out, cloaking the ring in complete ...
