Heavyweight Boxer Deontay Wilder Arrested For Strangling Woman in Vegas

Wilder is one of the few American Heavyweights that people have high hopes for. He has fought nothing but Tomato Cans, so it is hard to say if he will ever be any good.
One thing he needs to do though is stay out of trouble with the law and he had a hard time doing that this weekend in Vegas.
The 27-year-old was arrested in Las Vegas on Saturday and is alleged to have attempted to strangle his victim.
Wilder was released on a $15,000 bond and appeared in court on Monday. He is due to do so again on July 3.
This all happened at a hotel at 7:30am, the morning before the Mayweather fight. Police say a male (Wilder) and female got into an altercation. The woman was taken to the hospital with possible broken nose, swollen lip and eyebrows and strangulation marks on her neck.
We will keep you updated as more details are revealed.

Deontay Wilder & Bermane Stiverne each emerging as title threats

Big Weekends for 2 Possible Future Title Threats
This past weekend, Bermane Stiverne and Deontay Wilder scored good wins. Stiverne is the one who made the biggest move up the leader-board, with a unanimous decision over legitimate contender Chris Arreola. Wilder, meanwhile, beat Audley Harrison in one round, something that has now happened twice to Harrison in the past 6 months. Though Stiverne scored by far the better win, each man showed dominance against a class of fighter that was many levels above anyone they had ever tangled with before.
With the Klitschko era presumably winding down, each guy gave their name a little extra heat as possible predecessors. With heavyweight hopefuls like David Price, Seth Mitchell, and others having been recently exploited, the diverse pair of Stiverne and Wilder, for all we know, may be among the best of the non-Klitschko bunch.

British fighter Audley Harrison retires at 41

Former Olympic champion Audley Harrison has retired from professional boxing.

The retirement decision came after being stopped by undefeated American heavyweight Deontay Wilder on Saturday night.

Harrison, who dropped to 31-7, says ''there are only so many times you can fall before it becomes foolhardy to continue.''

At the 2000 Sydney Games, Harrison became the first British fighter to win an Olympic gold in the super-heavyweight division. But, despite briefly holding a minor world title nine years ago, the 41-year-old Harrison struggled in the professional ranks.

Harrison wrote Wednesday on his website that ''sadly my dream to be a legitimate world champion will be unrealized.''

Deontay Wilder improves to 28-0

Undefeated American heavyweight Deontay Wilder stopped former Olympic champion Audley Harrison in the first round Saturday night at Motorpoint Arena.

Harrison fell in a neutral corner from the first meaningful punch of the bout, and Wilder kept flailing at him before referee Terry O'Connor stepped in and called it off after 1 minute, 10 seconds.

Wilder, the 2008 Olympic bronze medalist, improved to 28-0, all by knockout.

Harrison, who briefly held a minor world title nine years ago, fell to 31-7. The British fighter admitted it was likely the end of his career.

''I've got to be realistic, I'm 41. It's going to be hard to get opportunities like this on the big stage again,'' Harrison said.

The fight was on the undercard of the Amir Khan's welterweight bout against Julio Diaz.

Deontay Wilder interview: Predicts early KO over Audley Harrison

This Saturday Deontay Wilder looks to extend his perfect record when he takes on, former Olympic gold medallist and world title challenger, Audley Harrison. The fight is the chief support bout to Amir Khan's clash with Julio Diaz and at the final press conference we managed to catch up with the likeable and charismatic heavyweight.

Deontay, this weekend you take on a former sparring partner in the shape of Audley Harrison. What sort of threat do you think he will pose to you?
DW: Audley likes to counter a lot, he's a counter puncher. He's quite smart and he tries to sit and wait on you, but he's not that fast and doesn't have great speed. The main thing I know is that if he gets into a rhythm he can be an effective fighter, so I'm going to stop him getting in a rhythm and stop him getting comfortable.
You've haven't been past 4 rounds so far in your career if this fight goes that far will stamina be a problem?

Audley Harrison a disappointing “step up” for Deontay Wilder

For at least the last year and a half, fight fans have wondered when American heavyweight Deontay Wilder was going to take a step up. Wilder was the only medal winner from America's blighted Beijing team, capturing a bronze, and has racked up a 27-0 record since turning pro. None of those opponents has survived to see the final bell, yet none of them was better than a journeyman, and most were mere tomato cans.
In taking on Audley Harrison, Wilder is fighting a "name" opponent at last. Ostensibly, Harrison is serving as Wilder's gatekeeper, the guy who isn't quite a world class opponent himself, but is good enough to keep misfits from rising into the world rankings. The problem is that Harrison has big name recognition, at least in the UK, but isn't much of a gatekeeper.

Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (27-0, 27 KO’s) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama will be crossing the Atlantic to take on Harlesden’s 2000 Olympic Gold Medalist Audley ‘A-Force’ Harrison (31-6, 23 KO’s) in the co-featured fight that will headline the undercard on “The Return of the King: Khan vs. Diaz” bill at Motorpoint Arena Sheffield on Saturday, April 27.
Wilder, a rising star on the American heavyweight scene, has shown his phenomenal punching prowess by blasting his way past all of his opponents. The knockout king now steps into the ring against the veteran Harrison.
The pair will clash in a 12-round heavyweight showdown with the victor propelling themselves into world title contention.
“There’s nothing like the day before, the morning of and night after you’ve claimed VICTORY,” said Wilder.

Is Deontay Wilder a rising star, or simply stagnating?

Team USA Boxing has finally run aground (in the men's division anyway) after narrowly avoiding that catastrophe in the Beijing Games, winning zero medals for the first time in Olympic history. In 2008, American boxing was just barely spared that rock-bottom humiliation when heavyweight Deontay Wilder won a bronze medal.
Wilder has since grown into a 6'7" 26 year old, weighing about 220 and wielding an 84-inch reach. With a sound amateur pedigree and such physical gifts, Wilder looks like a formidable prospect. It has now been four years since Beijing, however, and since turning pro in August 2008 he has yet to even reach the fringe contender level. As Wilder continues to feast on tomato cans and journeymen, the question "when will Wilder step up?" becomes more and more valid.
