Are Bad Decisions and Bad Behavior Really that Bad for the Sport?

A while back, I witnessed a pretty poor decision in the form of Travis Cloud vs. Gabriel Campillo. Watching it by myself on the downstairs TV (and then skipping over Williams vs Ishida as I knew that was going to be garbage), there were times I was asking for the ref or Cloud’s corner to stop the fight as I felt that Tavoris was taking a lot of punishment from rounds 7 thru 10. In my opinion, Campillo won 2 rounds after the 2 knockdowns in the first and should have won by a score of 115-111.
That said, as soon as Jimmy Lennon Jr. announced there was a split decision, I knew that Cloud was receiving a hell of a gift. My first thought during the Cloud post fight interview (after admiring his diction, verbosity, and ability to shut someone up while interviewing with Jim Gray no less) was, “Wow. I bet being a novice judge judging a Don King fight must be a great paying part time gig”. That really makes it tough for some of you that like to do a little boxing online betting.

Dereck Chisora to face possible penalties for his Mike Tyson 3.0 routine. How he can walk away from this.

LONDON, Feb.20-In the story that won’t die, Dereck Chisora is bringing more attention to boxing’s Heavyweight Division than it has seen in decades.
The problem is that what started out as an arrogant act has morphed into the theater of the absurd. Today, the British Boxing Board of Control issued the following statement on their website.
Click the link to read the statement and analysis on how he can regain his dignity. Also watch the FULL video of the post-bout brawl.

Dereck Chisora brawls with David Haye in postmatch press conference (Video)

Boxer Dereck Chisora was in a press conference Saturday night after losing a WBC heavyweight title match by unanimous decision to Vitali Klitschko when the presser was interrupted by fellow British boxer David Haye. After Haye had a verbal back-and-forth between Chisora and his managers, Chisora stepped down from the podium to speak with Haye face-to-face and the two boxers came to blows.

Dereck Chisora spits water in Wladimir Klitschko's face before WBC title fight (Video)

Before Saturday night's WBC heavyweight title fight in Munich, Germany between Dereck Chisora and Vitali Klitschko, Chisora spit water in the face of Vitali's brother Wladimir. Wladimir did not retaliate and actually grinned a little bit. This comes a day after the weigh-in where Chisora slapped Vitali Klitschko in the face. Talk about classless behavior. After that, you couldn't help but root for Klitschko to knock Chisora out. Klitschko didn't knock out Chisora, but did win the unanimous decision to retain his WBC heavyweight title belt. However, chaos broke out in a post-fight news conference where Chisora was challenged to a fight by British boxer David Haye and they came to blows. (Hopefully we'll have video of that soon).
Video: Chisora spits water in Klitschko's face

Check out the video. Shortly before boxer Dereck Chisora lost the WBC world heavyweight match to Vitali Klitschko, the arrogant Chisora spat water in the face of Klitschko’s brother, Wladimir.
Wladimir Klitschko is the longest reigning heavyweight champion in the history of the IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight championships. So, Chisora was totally disrespectful.
The 12,000 spectators booed Chisora as he made his way to the ring. He faces a fine after slapping Vitali Klitschko during the weigh-in.
"I don't have any regrets,” Chisora said, “They can boo me if they want. But as long as they are watching the sport I love, I'm happy.”

Chisora vs. Klitschko just got interesting after near brawl at weigh-ins.

MUNICH, Feb 18. – It was the slap heard around the world. In a moment straight out of a straight-to-DVD-movie, Derek Chisora slapped the spit out of heavyweight champ Vitali Klitschko’s mouth at weigh-ins yesterday.
Chisora got his desired result as the Englishmen’s actions now have the world talking about a fight that nobody cared about outside of the sport’s enthusiasts.
The problem is that despite being younger that Kiltschko, Chisora is considered to be seriously in over his head in this match-up to begin with.
Now that he has gone and slapped the champ who to his credit remained somewhat calm afterwards, Chisora has perhaps written a check that his skills can’t cash.
Check out the video below. We will update the news area tonight with the end result.

Chisora-Klitschko could be exciting bout

WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (43-2, 40 KOs) faces world-rated contender Dereck Chisora (15-2, 9 KOs) Saturday in Munich, Germany.

The fight kicks off the first of three heavyweight title fights that will be broadcast live in the US on three consecutive Saturdays on EPIX. As with previous cards offered on the channel, EpixHD.com will also stream the fights live as part of a special free trial offer for boxing fans. You can sign up for a free trial with a valid email account. Additionally, the fight will be presented as a closed-captioned jumbotron simulcast in New York City's famed Times Square.

Alongside his younger brother, Wladimir, Vitali Klitschko has had a stranglehold on boxing's glory division for almost a decade now. He hasn't lost a bout since his epic 2003 slugfest with Lennox Lewis. Ahead on all the scorecards at the time of the stoppage, Klitschko was left pleading for the fight to continue as blood gushed down his face due to the brutal cuts inflicted on him by the defe

Sir, I Challenge You To A Duel

While most of the boxing world was focused on Margarito-Cotto II: El Grudge Match, a few hours earlier and an ocean away, another bout was worthy of headlines.
In what is being called one of the worst robberies in recent memory, British heavyweight Dereck Chisora fell victim to blatant hometown scoring in Helsinki as Finnish heavyweight Robert Helenius escaped with a split decision Saturday and the vacant European belt in a match which nearly everyone ringside (aside from the judges) thought Chisora won.
Helenius is being tabbed as a potential threat, or at least heir, to the Klitschko throne. The 27-year old undefeated Finn only has 17 professional bouts under his belt, but he already has wins over Samuel Peter, Lamon Brewster and Sergei Liakhovich, so he’s fighting more than your average European stiff.
So it makes good business for all involved in the sport to keep Helenius on the fast track. Hence Saturday’s decision. That, and you basically would have had to murder Hel...

Robert Helenius vs. Dereck Chisora Preview & Prediction

The vacant European Heavyweight Title will be on the line Saturday, November 3rd as Robert “The Nordic Nightmare” Helenius and Derek “Del Boy” Chisora will square off at the Hartwell Arena in Helsinki, Finland. The European sluggers are two of the best that the heavyweights have to offer these days and a win may very well mean a shot at one of the Klitscho brothers who both sit atop the Heavyweight division.
Robert Helenius (16-0, 11 KOs)

6’6’’ tall, 79’’ reach, 27 years old
Finnish
WBO and WBA Intercontinental Heavyweight Champion

The rising Heavyweight contender has looked impressive in his most recent outings. In August, he turned out a remarkable victory over contender Sergei Liakhovich (25-4) via a 9th round TKO stoppage. Liakhovich had turned down an opportunity with one of the Klitschko’s to take on Helenius and legitimize his standing in the division with a win, but Helenius had different thoughts. Prior to that fight, Heleniu

Ricky Burns v Michael Katsidis - Full Fight Report‏

The night of explosion certainly reached it's peak on Saturday night with the well known celebrities ringside David Haye and Derek Chisora sitting ringside close to Frank Warren. However unexpectedly Ricky Burns won by points. He was strapped to the ropes most of the night by Micheal Katsidis from Australia and the judges scored, 117-112, 117 - 111 and 117 - 111.

The ring entries of both fighters were amazing especially Katsidis entering as he played homage to his ancestry. A song from Bon Jovi was a rocking entry for Ricky Burns, there was a great jingle from the crowds which remained to be consistent throughout the arena and during the fight.

Round 1 - Katsidis looked strong and determined from the offset in the first minute he had Burns already by the ropes who received body shots and was getting pushed back and the fight remained in the centre of the ring in this round.

Round 2 - Burns picked up the pace and missed a fair few punches and Katsidis had a strong defence with his hands high he
