Silgado ready to shock & upset Lebedev

Undefeated Colombian knockout artist Santander "Cha Cha" Silgado (23-0, 18 KOs), promoted by Havoc Boxing Promotions, is prepared to shock the boxing world this Monday (Dec. 17) in Russia when he challenges World Boxing Association (WBA) cruiserweight champion Denis Lebedev (24-1, 18 KOs).
WBC No. 8 rated-Silgado, the reigning WBC FECARBOX and WBA Fedelatin cruiserweight champion, isn't intimidated fighting Lebedev in his backyard. A year ago, Lebedev captured the interim WBA crown with a 12-round "shutout" decision over future Hall of Famer James Toney, and he successfully defended that title this past April with a second-round knockout of Shawn Cox.
"I don't feel like I have to overcome anything because," Silgado claimed, "at the end of the day, it is only going to be Lebedev and me in the ring. None of his fans, or members of his team, will be in the ring with us. My prediction is the same as it's been since I signed for t...

Undefeated Santander Silgado challenges Denis Lebedev on Dec 17th in Moscow

Undefeated contender Santander "Cha Cha" Silgado (23-0, 18 KOs) will become Havoc Boxing Promotions' first world title challenger when he takes on World Boxing Association (WBA) cruiserweight champion Denis Lebedev (24-1, 18 KOs) this Saturday night (December 17) in Russia. Team Silgado departed today for Moscow.

Silgado, a seven-time National amateur champion in his native Colombia, Santander had nearly 200 amateur fights. Now fighting out of Brooklyn, WBC No. 6-rated Silgado is the reigning WBC FECARBOX and WBA Fedelatin cruiserweight champion.
Because most of his professional fights have been in South America - four of his last five have been in the U.S. - Silgado remains one of the best kept secrets in boxing, despite him knocking out 18 of his 23 opponents.
Trained by former world champion Kosta Tszyu, Lebedev has defeated future Hall of Famers James Toney and Roy Jones Jr., in addition to former world champion Enzo Maccarinell...

Maccarinelli banned six months

Welsh boxer Enzo Maccarinelli has been banned for six months by UK Anti-Doping for testing positive for a stimulant after winning the British cruiserweight title in March.

Maccarinelli was banned from April 19 to Oct. 18, UK Anti-Doping said in a statement on Wednesday.

He tested positive for methylhexaneamine, a specified stimulant often found in nutritional supplements, on March 23, when he beat Shane McPhilbin in Wolverhampton by unanimous decision for the British title.

Maccarinelli (35-5) was the WBO cruiserweight champ from 2006-08.

Huck, Dimitrenko, Steiglitz fight Saturday

The Messehalle in Erfurt, Germany plays host Saturday night to an intriguing bill headlined by the WBO cruiserweight rematch between Marco "Captain" Huck and Britain's Ola Afolabi. The chief support features two European heavyweight prospects, Alexander Dimitrenko and Kubrat Pulev, who'll be contesting the vacant EBU title.

Huck (34-2, 25 KOs) is reprising his December 2009 first WBO title defense, when he handily defeated Afolabi over 12 rounds. This time he's making the ninth defense of the strap, just three months after an abortive assault on Alexander Povetkin's WBA heavyweight title (of sorts), when he swapped punches on pretty much even terms with Povetkin but was narrowly out-scored.

Huck, 27, picked up some plaudits for his brave effort against Povetkin, and the fight was a barn-stormer, if woefully lacking in quality. He'll drop 10 pounds in weight to renew hostilities with Afolabi (19-2, 9 KOs), who has gone 6-0 since their last outing, and has looked like a fighter i

James Toney takes on Bobby Gunn Saturday

Some guys just don't know when to quit, and James Toney (73-7-3, 44 KOs) returns to the heavyweight division to battle journeyman Bobby Gunn (21-4-1, 18 KOs) at Landers Center in Southaven, Miss., on Saturday night.

Toney is coming off a loss to Denis Lebedev last November that didn't just border on the disgraceful; it crossed the border, dropped its pants, mooned the border guard, then went racing off on a motorcycle at maximum speed to parts unknown. For 12 painful-to-watch rounds, Toney couldn't get anything going offensively due to what was either extreme old age or drunkenness; it would almost be excusable if the latter. Lebedev won all 12 rounds on all three judges' cards, and even if the judges were Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, and Gale Van Hoy that would've been true.

James Toney is 43 years old. Twenty years ago he was a transcendent middleweight and excellent super middleweight, but those days are as far in the past as good Cameron Crowe movies, a living Kurt Cobain, and your th

Cleverly slowly raising his profile

Wales is a small country, usually in the shadow of its English neighbor, but in terms of boxing, every now and again a genuine world-class exponent of the noble art makes a mark on the hardest of professions.

In recent times, Joe Calzaghe's name is thrown in as the obvious example. A fighter who was able to finally obtain the acclaim internationally to match the fervor the fans in his homeland brought. Older Welshmen would probably point to other boxers, Howard Winstone or Freddie Welsh, as even greater, in times where world titles were harder to come by. Tougher men in tougher times.

Twenty-four-year-old Nathan Cleverly (23-0, 11 KOs) is the latest Welsh world champion. After compiling an amateur record of 32-4, he turned professional at the age of 18. Nothing unusual in that, except that he also continued with a mathematics degree at the University of Cardiff which was duly obtained in August 2010. The fact that he's a boxer with a higher education and his surname is a tabloid writer's dream h

Undefaeted Tony Conquest Cruises & Enzo Mac Triumphant from York Hall in London

With the proposed Lee Selby vs John Simpson British and Commonwealth title clash falling through Francis and George Warren pulled out all the stops to ensure that Friday’s BoxNation televised event at the York Hall in London was up to the standard of their previous excellent events.
The brothers first elevated chief support - the Tony Conquest versus Toks Owoh Southern Area Cruiserweight Title clash - to main event and drafted in former two time Cruiserweight World Champion Enzo Maccarinelli to face Hungary’s unbeaten Georgy Marosi, in a Light Heavyweight contest, as chief support.
Report by Gianluca (Rio) Di Caro
In hindsight the Warren boys could have saved a little money, they didn’t need to pay out more money for a pair of big names, as the undercard was nothing short of top class, and any of the bouts could easily have been designated chief support and the paying public would have been just as happy.
On the same subject I could quite easily start with the openin...

Return Of The Mac on the 18th: Enzo Maccarinelli Vs. Gyorgy Marosi

Francis and George Warren may be new to the boxing promotions business, but no one can deny they have hit the ground running. Their first show produced a ‘Fight of the Year’ front runner, when Liam Walsh successfully defended his Commonwealth title in a proper barnstorming battle royale with Paul Appleby. Their second event see new star signing, Cruiserweight Leon ‘Solid’ Williams, wrestle the Lonsdale belt from long time Champ Rob Norton’s iron grip.
For their third event, at York Hall in Bethnal Green on Friday November 18th, and live on BoxNation (Sky platform channel 456) Francis and George have another major battle headlining, as former WBU and WBO Cruiserweight World Champion Enzo Maccarinelli makes his welcome return to the ring... as a Light Heavyweight.

Fight Preview by Gianluca (Rio) Di Caro
