Marco Huck vs. Ola Afolabi III preview & prediction

Fight Pick & Preview - Huck vs. Afolabi III:
On June 8, WBO Cruiserweight Champion Marco Huck renews his rivalry with Ola Afolabi for their third encounter. This is Huck’s 11th defense of his title with two of those challenges coming from Afolabi. Their first fight in 2009 was a close unanimous win for Huck, while the two fought to a draw in their 2012 rematch.
Afolabi is certainly a crafty and tough fighter. He gave Huck two close fights, but what can change now? Perhaps Huck will grow complacent and become bored with the challenge of Afolabi, thus entering the ring in diminished form. Something like that could open the door for Afolabi. But if he were meant to beat Huck, it would have happened before now. The judges aren’t likely to start seeing his work more clearly and Huck isn’t likely to start phoning it in at this point.

Hernandez injures hand in sparring, title defense off but Gutknecht-Braehmer card goes on

Bad luck for Yoan Pablo Hernandez (27-1, 13 KOs): The IBF World Champion broke his left hand during a sparring session ahead of his upcoming fight on February 2. Hernandez was set to defend his title against Eric Fields (21-1, 15 KOs) at the Max-Schmeling-Halle in Berlin, Germany as part of the show topped by the European Light Heavyweight Championship between Eduard Gutknecht (24-1, 9 KOs) and Juergen Braehmer (38-2, 30 KOs), which will still go ahead as planned.
Frederick Ness, Managing Director of Sauerland Event said: "We will stand by Pablo and will make sure that he receives the best medical attention out there. We are all hoping that he gets back as soon as possible."
Unfortunately for Hernandez, this is not the first time that his left hand is a cause for concern. He suffered the same sort of fracture during his impressive performance against Steve Cunningham back in February 2012.
A replacement for the IBF Cruiserweight Championship has already been found. 28-year...

Gutknecht & Hernandez working together for upcoming fights against Braehmer & Fields

The big fight night at the Max-Schmeling-Halle is only a few weeks away and Eduard Gutknecht (European Light Heavyweight Championship against Juergen Braehmer) and Yoan Pablo Hernandez (IBF World Title fight versus Eric Fields) are planning on holding on to their respective belts. To ensure a positive start to 2013 the two prodigies of coach Ulli Wegner have opted to spent the rest of their preparation time at the Olympic training facilities in Kienbaum near Berlin, Germany.

Light heavyweight Eduard Gutknecht (24-1, 9 KOs) takes on 34-year-old Juergen Braehmer not just to keep his EBU Title but also to win the position as mandatory challenger for the WBO Champion, currently Britain's Nathan Cleverly.
"It is great to be that close to a potential shot at the world championship. I only have to take the next step. I will earn that chance by defeating Juergen Braehmer," said the orthodox fighter about the all-German affair. However, Gutknecht has to...

Yoan Pablo Hernandez ready for successful defense against Fields next month

Yoan Pablo Hernandez (27-1, 13 KOs) wants nothing more than to successfully defend his IBF Title on February 2 at the Max-Schmeling-Halle in Berlin. But in order to do so, the Berlin-based Cruiserweight has to get past his powerful American opposition Eric Fields (21-1, 15 KOs). Therefore, the 28-year-old is in intense preparations and currently in sparring.

Coach Ulli Wegner is convinced that the IBF Champion has what it takes to overcome his next challenger. "We have only just started with sparring on Monday, but it is already looking very promising," said the 70-year-old Wegner. Actually, there are hardly any harsh words by the coach who is known for being quite vociferous. Nevertheless, his prodigy has found some aspects he wants to improve on before he gets into the ring with Fields.
"I'm getting more in to the flow of it with every session I complete. As soon as we get to the Max-Schmeling-Halle and it gets serious I will show Fields what I am all about.&q...

Eric Fields: Hernandez is in danger, I’m bringing back the title

Ardmore, Oklahoma, power puncher Eric "Danger" Fields (21-1, 15 KOs) is hoping he'll be underestimated when he brings his heavy fists to Germany on February 2, 2013, to face IBF Cruiserweight Champion Yoan Pablo Hernandez (27-1, 13 KOs) at Max-Schmeling-Halle in Berlin.
"This is his third defense and he's had some big wins and he's a southpaw, so I bet he's feeling real confident fighting a guy in the top 15. Well, guess what? He's in danger and he won't know it till it's too late. I'm taking the title from him and bringing it back to America."
Fields' promoter, Greg Cohen of Greg Cohen Promotions, has been looking like a boxing genius of late, after maneuvering WBA world junior middleweight champion Austin Trout from relative obscurity to boxing's newest star.
Cohen says Fields has exactly the kind of power that has bothered the German-based Cuban Hernandez throughout his career.

Yoan Pablo Hernandez returns Feb 2nd in Berlin against Eric Fields

The fans at the Max-Schmeling-Halle in Berlin, Germany have another great fight to look forward to. Not only will they get to watch the all-German affair between current European Light Heavyweight Champion Eduard Gutknecht and Juergen Braehmer but it has now been confirmed that Yoan Pablo Hernandez (27-1, 13 KOs) will be defending his IBF Cruiserweight Title against the American Eric Fields (21-1, 15 KOs).
Hernandez took the championship of Steve “USS” Cunningham back in October 2011. Since then he also won a rematch against Cunningham in February and also defended the IBF Crown in a close fight with Canada´s Troy Ross on September 15. Now the 28-year-old prodigy of Coach Ulli Wegner has the first title defense of 2013 firmly in his sight.
“I am very excited“, said Hernandez. “Berlin has become my new home. I live and train here. Never before have I stood inside the ring of the Max-Schmeling-Halle as the champion of the world.”

Abregu KOs Dulorme in big upset: Full results & photos from HBO’s tripleheader at Turning Stone

Last night on HBO Boxing, fans were treated to an exciting and competitive tripleheader, and overall, an amazing night of boxing at the Turning Stone Casino. The HBO card also featured a touching tribute to the late Emanuel Steward. Check out the full results and photos from the event right here.
In the 10-round main-event, Argentine slugger, Luis Carlos Abregu (34-1, 28 KOs) defeated former undefeated Puerto Rican contender, Thomas Dulorme (16-1, 12 KOs) by way of seventh round TKO to capture the WBC International welterweight title.

Dulorme set the pace early as he boxed and used his jab to keep Abregu at bay. But in the third round, Abregu landed a powerful right hand and dropped the undefeated contender Dulrome. Thomas took the full 8-count and regained his composure for the time being. In the very next round, Dulorme started to use lateral movement and it gave Abregu problems. Just as it seemed Dulorme was starting to find a rhythm, Abregue landed a left hook and sen...
