Is Adrien Broner going to batter Paulie Malignaggi in Brooklyn this summer?

Although far from official, WBA welterweight titleholder Paulie Malignaggi is considering fighting WBC lightweight champion “The Problem” Adrien Broner on June 22 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Broner (26-0, 22 KOs) most recently exited the squared circle on February 16 with a fifth round TKO triumph over Welshman Gavin Rees in front of a raucous crowd at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. The 23-year-old Broner, who is often compared to “Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather due to dominating roughly 300 amateur pugilists, twice floored Rees (37-2-1, 18 KOs) before trainer Gary Lockett mercifully halted the battering at 2 … Continue reading →

Adrien Broner vs. Gavin Rees results, photos & post-fight quotes

On Saturday night in Atlantic City, Adrien Broner dominated Gavin Rees, eventually scoring a 5th round TKO victory. Rees, as expected, was overmatched, but put on a tough and game performance, absorbing a great deal of punishment en route to that loss.
Right here, in addition to the Broner vs. Rees results, you'll find a huge collection of post-fight quotes from Broner and his team, Broner vs. Rees photos, and more. Take a look.
Broner vs. Rees Photos

The official time of stoppage for the Broner vs. Rees results was 2:59 of Round 5. Rees had been down in the 4th and 5th rounds.
In earlier action, always-tough veteran Sakio Bika proved to be too much for the untested and previously unbeaten Nikola Sjekloca. Bika basically shut him out for the duration of a 12 round fight, and potentially earned himself a shot at the WBC title at 168 lbs. That belt is currently held by Andre Ward, who has, of course, already defeated Bika.
In off-TV bouts, Demetrius Hopkins defeated Ch...

Adrien Broner Tested More Than Expected By Gavin Rees, But Still Not Very Much

(Feb 16, 2013; Atlantic City, NJ, USA; Adrien Broner (Red trunks) and Gavin Rees (Blue/Red trunks) trade punches during their 12 round WBC Lightweight Championship bout at Boardwalk Hall. Mandatory Credit: Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports)

Rarely do you see a fighter win the first two rounds of a bout, as Gavin Rees did Saturday night on HBO against Adrien Broner, yet still remain so convinced that the expected mismatch will emerge soon enough. The 80-1 underdog Rees fought his little ass off, and still got TKO'd by the vastly superior talent before the bout reached its halfway point. It was nice to see a bit more competition than most anyone expected, but the conclusion was no less forgone.

Here we are, then, in no substantially different a spot with Broner than we were before: He's a real talent, a possible future cornerstone of the sport with huge HBO backing, yet with no obvious challenge at lightweight who's willing to face him. Maybe one of those things can c...

Broner-Rees, Banks-Mitchell II opening quotes: Broner- I’m the best that boxing has, I plan to knock Rees out

Boxing's brightest star and one of the sport's most eagerly anticipated rematches will both take center stage on Saturday, February 16 when HBO World Championship Boxing telecasts a doubleheader from Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey featuring the WBC Lightweight World Championship fight between Two-Time and Two-Division World Champion Adrien "The Problem" Broner and former World Champion Gavin "The Rock" Rees and the second showdown between heavyweights Johnathon Banks and Seth "Mayhem" Mitchell.
This event marks Golden Boy Promotions' return to the boardwalk after a stellar card on November 17, 2012 that saw Broner capture the WBC Lightweight World Championship with an eighth round stoppage of former World Champion Antonio DeMarco and Banks scored one of the biggest upsets of the year with a second round technical knockout over previously unbeaten Mitchell.
"We're pleased to bring fans another exciting night of boxing li...

10 Biggest fights of the past 20 years which didn’t happen: Part 1

When 2012 is looked back on in later years, there will be many great memories for boxing fans. Undoubtedly right at the top of the list for most fans there is one fight that will long remain etched in the memory, Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez IV. However, it won’t be just remembered for its all-out explosive action, ending in one of the knockouts of the past decade let alone year, but also as the fight that ended the the mass hype and interest in what should have been the super fight of the generation, Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao.
It seems like it is becoming the norm in boxing for fans to be deprived of these mega-fights, and in honor of that dishonorable fact, below I count down a list of the 10 biggest fights from the last 20 years that were never made.
10. Kelly Pavlik vs. Arthur Abraham
In 2008, Abraham and Pavlik were arguably the two finest middleweights on the planets. Abraham held the IBF strap while Pavlik possessed the WBC and WBO titles. With Abraham hav...

Kavanagh named Shrimpers CEO

Southend have made the swift appointment of Steve Kavanagh as the club's new chief executive.

Gary Lockett last week stepped down from his post with immediate effect, citing his struggles to balance the demands of the job with his own business interests as the reason behind his resignation.

Lockett has remained as a non-executive director at Roots Hall but Kavanagh, former chief exec of Charlton who has worked in the game for over 10 years, has now taken the role of CEO.

Kavanagh told the club's official website: "I have known Ron Martin (chairman) for a number of years and I have seen first hand his passion and desire to deliver success for the club and I am looking forward to working along side Ron, and the rest of the board, to deliver what is a really exciting future.

"Part of this vision has to deliver success on the pitch and I will be working with Paul Sturrock to build on the feel-good factor that exists in the squad. I was at the match last night (Tuesday's 1-0 home defeat t

Chief executive Lockett resigns

Southend chief executive Gary Lockett has resigned with immediate effect but will remain as a non-executive director.

Lockett only took the position with the League Two club on March 1 but he admits he has struggled to balance the demands of the job with his own business interests.

Lockett told Southend's official website: "The role is more demanding than I first appreciated and I have had to juggle my other responsibilities.

"The chairman, quite rightly, is very ambitious for the club's success, as I am. And although Ron (Martin) originally described the role as 24/7 I perhaps did not appreciate that that is precisely what is required, and to balance my other business interests and meet the club's needs also is simply not practical.

"Nevertheless the chairman has invited me to remain as a non-executive director which I am very happy to do and look forward to helping him and the rest of the board advance the club, including its move to the new stadium."
