Johnny Eames receives BBBoC sportsmanship award

On Friday night, at the British Boxing Board of Control Annual Awards, one of the sports most colorful characters, TRAD TKO Boxing Gym supremo Johnny Eames, received an award for Sportsmanship.
Johnny has been involved in the sport of boxing for over thirty five years, during which time he has enjoyed great success, both as an amateur and professional coach, as well as a manager.
Johnny’s amateur coaching career started when he was just seventeen years of age, as a coach for the nursery boxing squad at West Ham ABC, before moving onto coaching eleven years of age and upwards and finally moving to the seniors.
In 1999 Johnny applied for his pro boxing coaches license, in order to continue coaching his star student Kevin Lear. This partnership culminated in Kevin beating Michael Gomez to snatch the vacant World Boxing Union Super Featherweight World title in June 2002.
Unfortunately the successful partnership came to an abrupt end just three months later, following Kevin retiring shor...

Heavyweight Action as Rappers Prepare For Chart Assault At East London Boxing Gym
Independent band LIMITLESS wanted a proper East End feel for the video of the latest track ‘Hold It Down’. After weeks checking out, and rejecting, various locations around the area the boys popped into the TRAD TKO Boxing Gym in Canning Town for a quick recce and in an instant knew they had found the perfect place.

After some nifty negotiations the boys secured the gym and just over a week later got down to shooting the video.
Whilst retaining the feel of a gritty East End fight factory - after all the TRAD TKO is the very place that World Champions Graham Earl, Kevin Lear and Tony Oakey honed their skills and where today’s stars such as WBO Inter-Continental Champ Kevin Mitchell, Commonwealth Middleweight King Billy Joe Saunders, former British champs Colin Lynes and Leon Williams train for their big fights - director Ounjoye has somehow created an smooth,...

Cleverly, Mitchell & Munroe amongst British stars for 3rd annual charity soccer game

For the past couple of years around this time TRAD TKO Boxing Gym supremo Johnny Eames has taken a break, from the business of boxing, to head up the team that organizes the annual Boxers and Celebrities Charity Football Tournament, to raise much needed funding for the Indee Rose Trust, which provides support and care packages for youngsters suffering from brain and spinal tumors.
This year is no different, as earlier today Johnny announced the date and location for this year’s extravaganza - Sunday, August 12th at the Concord Rangers Football Club on Canvey Island, Essex.
For those of you that have yet to attend one of these excellent tournaments, boy have you missed out on a great day out, as well as the chance to watch some of the sport’s biggest stars in action.
The list of those that have taken part in previous events, many of whom will again be at Canvey Island on the 12th August, is a veritable who’s who of British Boxing, Music and Television.

Women’s “White Collar” boxing scene in the UK ready to take off

Girl’s Just Want To...Fight!
2012 seems to becoming quite a defining year for Women’s Boxing in the UK, not only will it be an Olympic sport for the first time at the London 2012 Olympics and the female pro boxing is beginning to take off here at long last, but there’s also a thriving female White Collar scene.
A fair amount has been already been written on the Amateur and Pros, but not that much on the real grass roots scene, so with that in mind I spent a little time with a group of girls training at the legendary TRAD TKO Boxing Gym, in London’s East End, for a White Collar event that takes place at the Troxy in Limehouse this coming Friday.

Before we get to the Women, let’s backtrack to the beginning of the White Collar Boxing phenomenon , which first saw the light of day in 1988.
The whole sport came about after New York attorney Dr. Richard Novak challenged Dr. David Lawrence to a competitive boxing c...

Undefaeted Tony Conquest Cruises & Enzo Mac Triumphant from York Hall in London

With the proposed Lee Selby vs John Simpson British and Commonwealth title clash falling through Francis and George Warren pulled out all the stops to ensure that Friday’s BoxNation televised event at the York Hall in London was up to the standard of their previous excellent events.
The brothers first elevated chief support - the Tony Conquest versus Toks Owoh Southern Area Cruiserweight Title clash - to main event and drafted in former two time Cruiserweight World Champion Enzo Maccarinelli to face Hungary’s unbeaten Georgy Marosi, in a Light Heavyweight contest, as chief support.
Report by Gianluca (Rio) Di Caro
In hindsight the Warren boys could have saved a little money, they didn’t need to pay out more money for a pair of big names, as the undercard was nothing short of top class, and any of the bouts could easily have been designated chief support and the paying public would have been just as happy.
On the same subject I could quite easily start with the openin...

Return Of The Mac on the 18th: Enzo Maccarinelli Vs. Gyorgy Marosi

Francis and George Warren may be new to the boxing promotions business, but no one can deny they have hit the ground running. Their first show produced a ‘Fight of the Year’ front runner, when Liam Walsh successfully defended his Commonwealth title in a proper barnstorming battle royale with Paul Appleby. Their second event see new star signing, Cruiserweight Leon ‘Solid’ Williams, wrestle the Lonsdale belt from long time Champ Rob Norton’s iron grip.
For their third event, at York Hall in Bethnal Green on Friday November 18th, and live on BoxNation (Sky platform channel 456) Francis and George have another major battle headlining, as former WBU and WBO Cruiserweight World Champion Enzo Maccarinelli makes his welcome return to the ring... as a Light Heavyweight.

Fight Report: Burns Beats Katsidis, Groves KO’s Smith and New Star Billy Joe Saunders Shines
Guy Fawkes night, or bonfire night as some prefer, is an explosive celebration with fireworks lighting the evening skies. With this in mind promoter Frank Warren had declared that his ‘Gladiators’ event, at the Wembley Arena, would be an explosive affair. Being a man of his words he delivered as promised. The three Championship bouts all featured all action boxers with knockout reputations, as did the undercard.
Fight report by By Gianluca (Rio) Di Caro
We’ll start with the main event, which see former Super featherweight World Champion Ricky Burns take on the dreaded Aussie Brit Basher Michael Katsidis, who as we all know already beaten both Graham Earl and Kevin Mitchell, for the interim WBO Lightweight title.
The atmosphere was electric as the build up to the main event starts, Katsidis team, including former foe Graham Earl, enter the ring waving huge Australian and Greek f...

Big Fight Preview - Katsidis-Burns, Groves-Smith, Boulden-Saunders
I’m sure promoter Frank Warren must have been chanting ‘Remember, Remember the Fifth of November’ as he was planning his upcoming triple Championship headed ‘Gladiators’ show, which will take place at Wembley Arena on Guy Fawkes Night and shown live on BoxNation (Sky platform 456).
The pugilistic pyrotechnics on display will culminate in an explosive finale as former WBO Super Featherweight World Champion Ricky Burns and the Brit Bashing Aussie Michael Katsidis lock horns for the interim WBO Lightweight World title.

Preview Written By Gianluca (Rio) Di Caro
Katsidis is no stranger to battling it out on British shores, having stopped both Graham Earl and Kevin Mitchell in spectacular fashion, so will feel quite at home when he faces Coatbridge’s former Super Featherweight supremo Ricky Burns.
It bodes well that Burns has been stating that he feels stronger, since vacating the WBO title and moving up t...
