John “The Bull” Makdessi is scheduled to meet Daron “The Detroit Superstar” Cruickshank on the preliminary portion of the card. The bout was announced on the UFC’s official twitter account.  Makdessi (9-1 MMA 1-1 UFC) started his career with a perfect 9-0, which included 7 knockouts. He suffered his first defeat to Denis Hallman in his third UFC outing as well as another loss to Njkuani before retaliating with big a win over Sam Stout. A win over Cruickshank would help Makdessi’s climb up the lightweight ladder. Only hours after announcing he had inked a four-fight contract extension to remain with the UFC, the planet’s most prestigious mixed martial arts promotion reported the welterweight will meet Matt Brown at “UFC on FOX 5.” A heavyweight shootout between Lavar Johnson and Brendan Schaub was also confirmed for the Octagon’s return to Seattle. Skill wise, and rank wise this fight will show where each man stands in the UFC and will give an indication of where their careers are going. A dominating win for either one of these gentlemen will definitely have them looking at a step up in competition. Proctor is coming off of an impressive TKO over Jeremy Larsen; while Nijem will come into this fight riding a two fight win streak. I could see another win for either of these guys setting them up for a fight with someone like Al Iaquinta or Henry Martinez. Nijem currently trains with the Pit Elevated Fight Team in Utah with notable TUF alums Court McGee and Super Steven Siler. Siyar Bahadurzada has been forced to withdraw from his fight against Chris Clements due to injury. Stepping in against Clements is former Ultimate Fighter, Matt Riddle. The news came via the UFC Twitter account late Saturday night. UFC 149: oh sweet mercy…. Siyar out injured, new bout is Chris Clements vs Matt Riddle. Riddle (6-3) snapped his two fight losing streak at UFC 143, as he beat Henry Martinez by Unanimous Decision. He was then expected to fight Luis Ramos at UFC on FX: Maynard vs. Guida, however he was scratched from that fight due to injury and replaced by Matt Brown. Clements (11-4) recently made his promotional debut at UFC 145 against Keith Wisniewski and picked up a split decision victory.
