Amir Khan is ready to get battered by Floyd Mayweather on September 14 in ‘the biggest fight ever in the UK’

Mediocre pugilist Amir Khan claims negotiations are underway to cement a bout versus the great Floyd Mayweather in the United Kingdom on September 14. In an utterly brilliant showing, the 36-year-old Mayweather (44-0, 26 KOs) unanimously outclassed an inferior Robert Guerrero on May 4 and pocketed $32 million for the mismatch. Comparatively, flattened by a left hook in the fourth and staggered by the same punch in the eighth, 10th and 11th rounds, Khan (28-3, 19 KOs) escaped from the squared circle last month by outscoring Mexican Julio Diaz. “We are still in negotiations with Mayweather and it could be … Continue reading →

Despite escaping with a unanimous decision win, Amir Khan looked like a loser against Julio Diaz

Mediocre bloke Amir Khan escaped with a unanimous decision triumph over determined Mexican Julio Diaz at a 143-pound catch weight on Saturday night at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield, England. Although flattened by a left hook in the fourth and staggered by the same punch in the eighth, 10th and 11th rounds, the 26-year-old Khan (28-3, 19 KOs) outscored the 33-year-old Diaz (40-8-1, 29 KOs) by counts of 115-113, 115-112 and 114-113. Khan, who last fought in Britain two years ago in a winning effort against Irishman Paul McCloskey, is a human chandelier capable of getting floored at any moment … Continue reading →

Mediocre bloke Amir Khan will scrap serviceable Mexican Julio Diaz at a 143-pound catch weight tonight at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield, England. The 26-year-old Khan (27-3, 19 KOs), who last threw fists in Britain two years ago against Irishman Paul McCloskey in a winning effort at the M.E.N. Arena in Manchester, has lost two of his past three bouts. Entering the squared circle for the first time since falling to “Swift” Danny Garcia, Khan outclassed a gritty Carlos Molina to earn a 10th round TKO on December 15 at the Sports Arena in Los Angeles, California.
Amir Khan to fight Julio Diaz April 27 in England

After nearly two years of fighting in the U.S., Amir "King" Khan will return to Sheffield, England, to face veteran Julio Diaz on April 27 at Motorpoint Arena. The matchup figures to give Khan another opportunity to test the new, more disciplined boxing style that he has adopted since working with trainer Virgil Hunter.

Khan is 1-0 thus far with Hunter in his corner, having beaten Carlos Molina in his last fight in Los Angeles.

"April 27th is going to be a special night," said Khan. "It's been two years since I last fought in the United Kingdom and I can't wait to get in the ring in front of my fans. Julio Diaz is a former world champion and a very dangerous opponent who is coming off of an impressive performance in his last fight. I know he will be coming with guns blazing and I'm ready for whatever he has to throw at me. With my speed and boxing skills, and his power and experience, it makes for a really exciting matchup."

Amir Khan vs. Julio Diaz set for April 27, televised with Garcia vs. Judah on Showtime

Amir Khan will take on Julio Diaz on April 27, from a site to be determined in England. Khan's bout will be shown live in the afternoon on Showtime, but will also be shown later in the evening, as a part of the Danny Garcia vs. Zab Judah Junior Welterweight title fight broadcast, originating from Brooklyn.

While Khan vs. Diaz is not exactly a high-profile match, it's one that makes sense right now for all parties. Khan gets a veteran, but one whom he should be able to thrive against. He'll find Diaz easy to hit, and should be able to look impressive and tally a stoppage. He's bigger, stronger, quicker and more skilled, so this really amounts to a confidence booster.
But by opting for April 27 and getting on the Showtime telecast for Garcia vs. Judah, this is an ideal way for Khan to place himself in position for a bigger fight this summer, and for Showtime to build up a potential rematch with either man as well.
Khan, of course, was knoc...

Former world lightweight champion Juan Diaz will join Steve Farhood and Barry Tompkins as a special guest analyst on ShoBox: The New Generation on Friday, August 24.

An exciting doubleheader is set for this Saturday night at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif. featuring a battle between unbeaten Ronny Rios and the exciting "Dangerous" David Rodela in the 10 round junior lightweight main event and former World Champion Julio Diaz's return to the ring to take on Henry Aurad in the 10 round welterweight co-feature on TeleFutura's "Sólo Boxeo Tecate."
Ronny Rios (18-0, 8 KO's) cleaned up as an amateur, winning two United States titles and one National Golden Gloves Championship before turning professional in October of 2008 with a first round knockout of Fermin Perez. Since then, no one has come close to beating the 22-year-old from Santa Ana, Calif. who has defeated Roger Gonzalez, Jeremy McLaurin and Guillermo Sanchez in his last three fights. On July 28, he'll look to keep that streak going against his Southern California rival Rodela.

Diaz vs. McCloskey? It’s news to Diaz’s promoter, who says not so fast

Thompson Boxing Sets Record Straight
In an effort to clarify the false news that is circulating in the boxing world as it relates to the May 5 match up between junior welterweights, former two-time world champion Julio "The Kidd" Diaz and WBA #8 ranked Paul McCloskey, Thompson Boxing Promotions has issued the following official statement:
"As far as we are concerned, we don't have a fight, because we have never been approached by Matchroom Sport, or any other entity. Thompson Boxing is the sole promoter of Julio Diaz and we would be more than glad to negotiate arrangements to have Julio Diaz fight Paul McCloskey on May 5th or any other date as long as we can agree to satisfactory terms with his promoter."
