Luis Ramos Jr & Deontay Wilder in action Sept 8th at OC Fair & Event Center

The Hangar at the OC Fair & Event Center will get the month of September off to a rousing start on Saturday the 8th when unbeaten junior welterweight rising star Luis Ramos Jr. looks for win number 23 in a row against veteran standout Noe Bolaños in a 10-round bout that headlines September's edition of Golden Boy Promotions' boxing series on FOX Sports Net and FOX Deportes.
In the co-main event, scheduled for 10 rounds in the heavyweight division, 2008 United States Bronze Medalist Deontay "Bronze Bomber" Wilder looks for his 25th knockout in 25 fights against fellow unbeaten Damon McCreary.
24-year-old Luis Ramos Jr. (22-0, 9 KO's) has shown remarkable skill and poise with each successive step up in competition he has taken. In 2011, Ramos began his run to the top with big wins over Francisco Lorenzo and David Rodela, but this year, the Santa Ana, Calif. southpaw upped the ante even more by decisioning respected contender Raymundo Beltran in Jan...

3 punch combo: What happened, Hank Lundy? Deontay Wilder’s slow development & more

In this week’s three punch combo I will start by taking a look back at Raymundo Beltran’s upset victory of Hank Lundy on Friday night. Next we will take a closer look at an interesting super middleweight bout this Thursday between Thomas Oosthuizen and Rowland Bryant. And finally we will examine the career path of Deontay Wilder and preview his bout Saturday against Kertson Manswell.

Hank Lundy vs. Raymundo Beltran

Hank Lundy turned in a very disappointing performance Friday night and lost a ten round majority decision to journeyman Raymundo Beltran. The loss for Lundy is particularly disappointing as he seemed on the verge of a big fight, possibly against Adrien Broner, in his next bout.
In my estimation, while Beltran fought a good fight, Lundy has only himself to blame for the loss. He clearly did not take this fight seriously and was overlooking Beltran. It took Lundy four attempts to make weight on Thursday in what was the first sign that Lundy did not take his trainin...

The Week’s (Professional) Boxing Schedule, Featuring Mercito Gesta, Johnriel Casimero, Diego ...

Just like Will Arnett, we’re busy (and manly) here at TQBR. The Olympic boxing has us furiously tapping at keyboards and burning the midnight oil. The same thing cannot be said of the pro schedule which is rather, um, sparse this week. There are three televised shows which, you might have been able to guess from this post’s title, are not exactly packed with marquee names. The Magdaleno bros, Diego and Jesse, are fighting on TeleFutura and ESPN2, respectively. The ESPN2 fight is headlined by Filipino lightweight Mercito Gesta. That’s more or less it, really.

Mercito Gesta vs. Ty Barnett, Friday, ESPN2, Las Vegas. Comparing Filipino fighters to Manny Pacquiao is getting to be a bit of a boxing cliché, but it’s so easy goddamit! Especially with someone like lightweight Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta (25-0-1), a southpaw with a furious two fisted assault. Gesta faces Ty Barnett (20-2-1) of Washington DC, whose last two opponents (after a KO loss) have a combined record of 22...

Deontay Wilder gets new opponent for August 4 fight

With Kelvin Price forced to withdraw from his August 4 fight with unbeaten Deontay "Bronze Bomber" Wilder due to a rib injury, Trinidad and Tobago's Kertson "Warrior" Manswell has answered the call to face the 2008 Olympic Bronze Medal winner in a heavyweight slugfest at the Mobile Civic Center Arena Expo Hall in Mobile, Alabama that will be televised live on FOX Sports Net and FOX Deportes.
26-year-old Deontay Wilder (23-0, 23 KO's) put his hometown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama on the boxing map in 2008 when he earned a Bronze Medal at the Beijing Olympics as the only United States boxer to medal at the games. Later that year, he turned professional with a second round technical knockout over Ethan Cox. Since then, no one has gotten out of the fourth round against the exciting knockout artist. He has gone 3-0 in 2012 thus far, with his most recent win over former world title challenger Owen Beck proving that he's ready for prime time. Wilder ...
