Quillin plans to become undisputed champ after taking care of business this Saturday

Charismatic world champion prizefighter Peter "Kid Chocolate" Quillin (28-0, 20 KOs) is holding his World Boxing Organization (WBO) middleweight title belt hostage, as he prepares to make his first defense this Saturday evening (April 27) against challenger Fernando Guerrero (25-1, 19 KOs) on Showtime Championship Boxing, airing live from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
The 29-year-old Quillin, fighting back at home once again in New York City, captured the WBO championship this past October 20 at Barclays Center, dropping defending champion and previously unbeaten Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam (27-0) six times en route to a overwhelming 12-round unanimous (115-107 three times) decision.
"I earned my belt and I don't plan on giving it back until I retire," Quillin said. "I'm going to win a few more belts for my collection, if any of the other world champions want to fight me on in a unification fight. My goal is to become the undisputed middl...

Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin prepares for Fernando Guerrero: Training Gallery

Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin won his first major title in a action packed fight against rough and tough Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam a few months back in his Barclays Center debut in Brooklyn, NY. The Cuban born American knocked down N’Jikam six times….yes SIX TIMES in a fight that had everyone jumping up and down.
Now finally a world champion, Quillin looks to defend his newly won title against Fernando Guerrero, a once defeated Dominican who is in Quillin’s same shoes coming into his title shot against N’Jikam.
Quillin is not looking to drop his belt anytime soon as we got a sneak peak into his training camp coming up ahead of his bout on the Zab Judah vs. Danny Garcia undercard on April 27th at The Barclays Center.

Quillin is a charismatic character, and certainly has an interesting backstory. It'd be interested to learn more about how Grantland hooked up with him though for this kind of feature. Obvious...

Quillin ready for Brooklyn homecoming & title challenge

Undefeated challenger Peter "Kid Chocolate" Quillin (27-0, 20 KOs) has returned home to change the face of the middleweight division, on a seek-and-destroy mission to defeat unbeaten World Boxing Organization (WBO) World Middleweight Champion Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam (27-0, 17 KOs) this Saturday night on Showtime Championship Boxing, live from the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
The 29-year-old Quillin, the WBO No. 1 contender, lived in Brooklyn for four years and he now resides in Manhattan. "I'm excited to be fighting at home," Quillin said. "I know what I need to do to secure a victory. I know how far I've come, from sleeping on floors to fighting for the world title on the biggest stage, Showtime, at Barclays Arena. I've learned that, if you really want something in life, you can't be discouraged. No excuses Saturday night."
Neither N'Jikam nor Quillin have defeated any top 10 middleweights, although Quillin sent four-time w...

Special interview: Farhood and Quillin talk one on one

Christmas will come early for Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin, a New York kind of guy and No. 1-ranked contender who challenges fellow unbeaten WBO Middleweight World Champion Hassan N’Dam in one of four world championship fights on Saturday, October 20, in the first-ever boxing event at the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. For Quillin, it's been a long and intense journey towards this title shot. Here, see what Quillin had to say as he recently answered six questions with SHOWTIME boxing analyst and historian Steve Farhood, and also read more on Quillin and his background.
You're originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, not New York City, but you’ve lived in New York for the last 12 years. What about you suggests you’re a true New Yorker?
“I have no problem drinking coffee in the morning with a bagel. I’m a corner-bodega kind of guy; I don’t like to be the type of person who goes to Starbucks just because everybody else goes there.

Quillin fighting on anniversary of father’s freedom via defection from Cuba

When unbeaten middleweight contender Peter "Kid Chocolate" Quillin (26-0, 20 KOs) steps into the ring on June 2 to fight four-time World Light Middleweight Champion Ronald "Winky" Wright (51-5-1, 25 KOs), America's top middleweight will have the added motivation of winning for his father, Pedro.
Thirty-two years to the day (June 2), Pedro left his native Cuba en route to Miami on boats with his fellow countrymen in search of freedom. "It was like a scene from 'Scarface' and my father was on the last boat," Peter explained. "He ran off the boat so fast he left his shirt and shoes on the boat. They gave him flip-flops and he thought that they were high-end sandals because he was America."
Quillin explained that his father had served 13 years in prison for illegally selling beef. Pedro was a butcher and there was a strict food allotment in Cuba. He slaughtered cows and illegally sold meat in his neighborhood.

Peter 'Kid Chocolate' Quillin America's Top Middleweight

Off his impressive performance last weekend in Cancun, dismantling Scottish southpaw Craig McEwan (19-2, 10 KOs) live on HBO en route to a sixth-round stoppage, unbeaten defeated middleweight contender Peter "Kid Chocolate" Quillin (26-0, 20 KOs) has arguably established himself as the No. 1 American middleweight.

"I agree," the 28-year-old Quillin said about being the top 160-pounder in the US. "I think I proved that against McEwan. I'll fight any of the top middleweights from this country. I'm also one of the best middleweights in the world. I may not be ready to fight Sergio Martinez right now but, after one or two more fights against top 10 opponents, I'll be ready to fight him for the world title. I want a world title fight in the United States, Las Vegas or New York City, and all the other world champions only seem to want to fight in their own backyards (WBA's Russian Dimitry Pirog, WBC's Mexican Julio Cedar Chavez Jr., IBF's Aussie Daniel Geale

No Cancun Vacation For Peter 'Kid Chocolate' Quillin

Undefeated middleweight contender Peter "Kid Chocolate" Quillin (25-0, 19 KOs) breaks his Los Angeles training camp Wednesday to depart for Cancun, not for a vacation but to fight live on HBO for the first time, Saturday night against Scottish southpaw Craig McEwan (19-1, 10 KOs) in Cancun, Mexico.

Quillin-McEwan is the co-feature on a Golden Boy Promotions card headlined by Alfredo Angulo vs. James Kirkland.

"I took off about a week after my last fight and have been training ever since, even after working with Team USA at the Olympic Team training camp in Colorado Springs, during the short time I was back in New York City," Quillin said. "It's been a great camp. My old buddy from Brooklyn, Sechew Powell, has been here with me in Los Angeles.
