No More Bruntlett

The Phillies management has plenty to do this offseason and they've already made a few decision. Brett Myers won't be back next season. Pedro Feliz could be back but not with his current contract. The Phils didn't pick up the option so he is now a free agent. I'm okay with both of these moves. What I'm not okay with is the lack of news about Eric Bruntlett. Ruben Amaro Jr. need to come out immediately and state their plans for the bearded utility player. As fans, we deserv...

Phillies Off-Season: What Are The Needs?

As the Phillies embark on the off-season, the first thing we have to look at is the status of the 25-man roster and then we can get around to talking about specific players.

Right now, it's safe to say that barring any trades, these players will be on the opening day 25-man roster:

Those are the definites in my opinion, but there are many other options in-house not set in stone.

There are 4 players who are ours if want them, either with contract options or arbitration...

Roster update: Park, Bruntlett in, Myers, Kendrick out

Former Dodger Chan Ho Park last pitched Sept. 16 before blowing out his right hamstring. Eric Bruntlett, who had a .462 OPS in the regular season, adds speed and an extra glove to the Phillies' bench. The Phils found themselves in an awkward situation where they needed to use Miguel Cairo in left field last series and probably had some second thoughts about their late-game defensive options. So the Phils have elected to go with 11 pitchers, dropping Kyle Kendrick,...

Breaking news: Gnome stays home for division series

Speed couldn't save Eric Bruntlett from his .171/.224/.238. The much-maligned utility infielder, who was in the middle of several big moments last postseason, will be left off the NLDS roster, according to various reports, which likely means veteran Miguel Cairo, who spent most of the season in Triple-A, has won a spot on Charlie Manuel's bench.

Beer nuts: World Series let the air out of the balloon

The champagne isn’t chilling, but Eric Bruntlett has been summoned to retrieve the ice. With all the controversy surrounding Brad "Hashtag" Lidge, and the fact that the Phillies are headed for an anticlimactic division clincher, possibly in the land of 10,000 sausages, it’s easy to forget that Pedro Feliz will soon be spotted screaming his head off wearing swimming goggles inside a clubhouse draped in Saran Wrap. For players like Pedro, who begin preparing as early as January, there’s cause...

Bunts and Balks (8/24)

The uniform worn by Eric Bruntlett on Sunday, during his three-hit game, is on the way to Cooperstown. Bruntlett also was wearing the uniform when he set up his game-ending, unassisted triple play, with two defensive miscues. It joins his Elmer Fudd hat from the 2008 postseason, in the rapidly growing Gnome Wing of the Hall.

Lehigh Valley IronPigs (AAA) outfielder Michael Taylor was placed on the DL, retroactive to 8/22, with a strained right oblique. The FeHogs are out of the playoff race...

Bruntlett To The Hall

Eric Bruntlett caught a liner that was hit right at him, stepped on second and tagged a guy who was standing still. NIce play. His reward? The Hall of Fame called and requested a little bit o' Bruntlett in Cooperstown. Reports say that the Hall asked Bruntlett for some "memorabilia" and the pinch-hitting ace of the bench obliged by donating his game jersey. But that isn't where this story ends. WSBGM's has learned the hall will be giving Bruntlett his own plaque, too. --...

Bruntlett Becomes Historical

Eric Bruntlett had an historically amazing day. Not only did he see his batting average from .128 to .154 with a 3-5 day at the plate, he also committed an error in the 9th inning that put our shaky closer on thin ice, but redeemed himself with the 14th unassisted triple play in MLB history to end the game. Let's be honest, he's still a horrible baseball player, but he certainly etched his place in Phillies lore with that play. Phillies won an ugly game 9-7, and that's good enough...
