Merida vs Pumas Copa MX 2013 – Week 1

The Merida vs Pumas Copa MX 2013 match will be held at the Estadio Carlos Iturralde on Wednesday, January 16th at 7:00pm PST.
Pumas- trying to correct the mistakes
Pumas had a bad game against Queretaro in their latest Liga MX match; after the red card for Marco Palacios, Pumas went down in a game that could have been an easy 3 points for them. Torres Servin used Robin Ramirez at the end of the game when he clearly could have been a starting player.
Luis Garcia and Eduardo Herrera have not had much chemistry on the field, they seemed off and disconnected. Romagnoli and Chiapas also haven’t had much to offer in the midfield. Perhaps its time for Antonio Torres Servin to start using Robin from the beginning, and see what he is made of. Due to Bravo’s injury, we will not be seeing them together in action, but maybe Luis Garcia and Ramirez might be able to accomplish something.
Against Merida, it appears to be the perfect time to try these things, whether the score is in their favor or ...

Pumas UNAM and the Preseason for the Clausura 2013

Pumas did not meet the expectations fans had assigned them for the Apertura 2012, and during the past month have done important changes to fix this.
1. Assistant coaches Guillermo Vazquez Sr and Juan De Dios Ramirez Perales join the first team to support Torres Servin in the task of bringing the team back to shape.
2. Robin Ramirez joins Pumas, a Paraguayan who was playing as a loan in Colombia and finished as top scorer last season with 13 goals. Pumas bought the player from Libertad in a reported 1.5 million dollar deal.
3. Ignacio Gonzalez comes from Morelia and is reportedly exchanged for Fernando Morales. Ignacio is seeking a position in the first team, seeing how the position he plays is currently occupied by Jose Antonio Garcia.
Pumas have played 4 pre-season games, all with good results: 3 wins against Lobos BUAP, Toros Neza and Pachuca and 1 tie against Tigres, they seem to be getting in shape for the upcoming season.
Torres Servin has stated that all of the players in the ...

Tigres prove too hot for Cruz Azul

Second-half goals from Raul Jimenez and Christian Benitez ensured Club America moved up to fourth in the Mexican Apertura after a comfortable 2-0 victory over Santos Laguna.

Following a goalless opening half, it took just three minutes after the interval until Jimenez broke the deadlock before Benitez sealed victory for Club America in the 74th minute.

Luis Garcia bagged a brace as Tigres eased past Cruz Azul 2-0.

Garcia put hosts Cruz Azul on course for the win after scoring on the stroke of half-time and added his second in the 61st minute.

Finally, 10-man Atlas were held to a goalless draw in their home clash against Queretaro.

The hosts had Gregorio Torres sent off five minutes from time as they claimed their sixth stalemate in their opening eight games of the season.

Yankees Sign Two 16-Year-Old Nicaraguans

From Baseball America:The Yankees have signed two Nicaraguan lefthanders, including Corby McCoy, one of the top pitchers from the country for this year's July 2 class.

McCoy, a 16-year-old who signed for $150,000, is 6-foot-3, 170 pounds with an athletic, projectable body. His velocity has been inconsistent, ranging from 85-88 mph for some teams, but more recently he has touched as high as 91. McCoy also throws a breaking ball that's in its nascent stages.

The Yankees also signed 16-year-old Luis Garcia, whose bonus is under $50,000 and will likely be used as one of the exemptions every team gets under its $2.9 million international bonus pool for six players of $50,000 or less. Garcia is a raw, projectable lefty with a 6-foot-4, 185-pounds frame and an 85-88 mph fastball. The Yanks have been making a lot of international signings lately. Recenly they also signed Venezuelan catcher Luis Torrens ($1.3 million), Venezuelan outfielder Alexander Palma ($800,000) and Dominic...

New York Yankees Sign Nicaraguan Prospects Corby McCoy, Luis Garcia

The New York Yankees have signed two Nicaraguan pitching prospects, Corby McCoy and Luis Garcia, reports Ben Badler of Baseball America.

McCoy, 16, signed for $150,000 and is one of Nicaragua’s best pitchers. At 6’3″, 170 pounds, the young left-hander has an athletic, projectable body. His velocity has ranged from 85-88 mph in the past, but Badler reports McCoy’s fastball has touched as high as 91 mph recently. He also has a breaking ball in his arsenal, which is still being developed.
Garcia, who signed for $50,000, is also a 16 year-old left-hander, but has a larger frame than McCoy at 6’4″ and 185 pounds. Like McCoy, Garcia’s fastball ranges from 85-88 mph.
With the signing of McCoy, the Yankees have spent all of their $2.9 million international bonus pool limit. If they sign another top international player before July 2, 2013, they would have to pay a penalty for exceeding the $2.9 million amount. Since Garcia signed for under $50,000, he will likely be used as one of New Yo...

Getafe's European ambitions ended

Getafe's hopes of European football next season appear all but over after they were held to a 1-1 draw by already-relegated Racing Santander.

After coach Luis Garcia told his players they needed to win all their remaining games to have a hope of salvaging their European dreams after a run of three defeats in four, his side fell at the first hurdle against a Racing side who managed to take a point despite missing a first-half penalty.

Papakouli Diop squandered that chance in the 26th minute, but did find the net to level the match five minutes after Nicolas Fedor had put Getafe ahead from the penalty spot just before the hour mark.

Getafe kicked off four points but six places off sixth-placed Atletico Madrid in the congested battle for a continental place, but if they meant to play like a side determined to make up lost ground it barely showed.

Diego Castro and Javi Casquero both sent shots wide but otherwise the first serious chance on goal came when Alexis Ruano felled Lautaro Acosta to give Racing a

Club America snatches late victory

Club America striker Christian Benitez's late penalty snatched a 3-2 win against Puebla to move them second in the Mexican Clausura table.

The visitors had to come from behind to grab their win after Luis Garcia (24pen) and DaMarcus Beasley (48) fired Puebla ahead after Daniel Montenegro's sixth-minute opener.

A Gonzalo Pineda own goal on 49 minutes drew them level before Benitez won it.

Chiapas stayed in contention for the finals series with a 3-0 win at Unam Pumas.

Half-time substitute Franco Arizala scored either side of a Jackson Martinez strike to grab a much-needed win.

Osasuna snatches equalizer at Zaragoza

Real Zaragoza were denied three vital points in their bid to escape relegation from the Primera Division as Osasuna snatched an equaliser amid late drama at La Romareda.

Helder Postiga thought he had earned the home side, who sit bottom of the table, a vital win when he scored the opening goal with just four minutes to go.

But Osasuna, who have European ambitions this season, earned a 1-1 draw when Roversio headed an equaliser with two minutes remaining.

It was particularly bad luck for Zaragoza who had several opening and were twice denied by the frame of the goal before Postiga opened the scoring.

Osasuna started the brighter but a shot from Raul Garcia missed right and then Zaragoza's Postiga was also off target.

Zaragoza goalkeeper Roberto Jiminez kept out a shot from Damia Abella and then saved a header by Roland Lamah from a corner.

Abella's foul on Angel Latifa earned Zaragoza a free-kick but they were denied by the woodwork as Postiga's header from Luis Garcia's ball in came back

LFC miss out on Javi Garcia.

When Rafa Benitez was in charge of Liverpool, he tried to sign Real Madrid's 'B' Team midfielder Javi Garcia. The move didn't happen, but the Spaniard's Agent recently revealed that a 'good offer' in the summer could secure his services. Unfortunately, Garcia recently signed a new contract, so it looks like any potential move for the player is now dead. Or is it? Benitez's interest in the player was confirmed by Garcia in 2007:"My colours are Real Madrid but if it's impossible to play there then England is a sensational country and Liverpool is a historic club."Liverpool were linked with Garcia again recently, and two weeks ago, his Agent Manuel Garcia Quilon revealed that 'several Premier League clubs' were tracking the £10m-rated midfielder, and that if a 'good offer' came in at the end of the season, Benfica would consider it.Then, in an interview with Radio TSF, Quillon confirmed that no offers had yet been received...

Getafe sinks fellow struggler Villarreal

Getafe struck a potentially vital blow in their bid to avoid relegation as they eased themselves five points clear of the Primera Division danger zone with an impressive 2-1 win at fellow strugglers Villarreal .

Luis Garcia Plaza's men went into the game on a five-game winless slide that had threatened to throw them into the middle of a dogfight, but goals from Diego Castro and Abdelaziz Barrada mean they now have some breathing space.

Villarreal, highly fancied at the start of the season but still to recover from the loss of Giuseppe Rossi to injury, are three points above the bottom three, but should have taken more from this match.

They did equalise through Nilmar's penalty, but, having already missed one through Borja Valero, the Yellow Submarine may well consider this to be a chance missed.

With a three-game winless run of their own hanging over them, Jose Francisco Molina's side were always likely to start quickly and so it proved, with Cani working Miguel Moya from the edge of the box.

Sevilla grabs three points over Zaragoza

Sevilla coach Marcelino Garcia Toral enjoyed a win over his former club as Alvaro Negredo's first-half winner added to Real Zaragoza's woes.

Negredo, a lively presence until injury forced him off, won and converted a 23rd-minute penalty which ultimately separated the sides.

Zaragoza had just two shots on target and remain second from bottom of the Primera Division, while Sevilla move above Malaga into fifth place.

Helder Postiga dragged an early effort wide for Zaragoza before Ivan Rakitic tested home keeper Roberto Jimenez from distance.

Negredo was denied a penalty after he appeared to be taken down in the box by Leonardo Ponzio, though Rakitic had been spared in a marginal handball decision earlier in the same attack.

Luis Garcia's weak header at the other end was easily held by keeper Javi Varas before Roberto saved from Diego Perotti.

Negredo then got his spot-kick decision when he was hacked down by David Mateos midway through the first half and the Spain international stepped up to fi
