Joshua wins super heavyweight gold

Anthony Joshua won the Olympic super heavyweight gold medal in thrilling fashion Sunday, rallying from a third-round deficit to beat defending champion Roberto Cammarelle of Italy in a tiebreaker.

Joshua trailed 13-10 entering the third round, but landed several big shots. The judges scored the fight even at 18, but Joshua won on the countback tiebreaker, which evaluates larger parts of the judges' total scores.

Italy protested the decision, delaying the medal ceremony.

Joshua lives and trains in London, putting an appropriate finale on the 16-day, 272-bout tournament. Joshua won Britain's third boxing gold medal at these Olympics, joining bantamweight Luke Campbell and women's flyweight Nicola Adams.

Cammarelle narrowly missed defending his Beijing gold. He is a three-time Olympic medalist, also winning bronze in Athens.

Olympic boxing gold medal results: Luke Campbell, Shiming Zou amongst the winners

Zou, Campbell, Iglesias , Murata and Usyk claim Olympic gold medals
On day fifteen of competition at the London 2012 Olympic Games, four boxers became Olympic Champions for the very first time whilst one made history by defending his title. The atmosphere at the packed ExCeL arena was once again fantastic for five contest of the very highest quality. Right here, find the full men's Olympic boxing gold medal results from Saturday, highlighted by a British vs. Irish showdown as Luke Campbell met John Joe Nevin, and much more.
The Light Flyweight (46-49kg) final saw 32-year-old Thai Kaeo Pongprayoon challenge the reigning Olympic Champion Shiming Zou for the gold medal. The Chinese orthodox began by switching stance, trying to confuse his opponent in the early stages and looking to score with that telescopic jab of his. The experienced Pongprayoon was not being overawed but Zou's expert counter-punching made the difference as he took the first by a single point, 2:1. In the se...

Campbell wins bantamweight gold

Luke Campbell and John Joe Nevin scrapped through 21/2 remarkably even rounds, their British and Irish fans getting more uneasy with every blow.

And then Nevin walked into a big right hand from his British opponent.

Nevin ended up on his back.

Campbell ended up with a gold medal, largely on the strength of that one spectacular punch.

The British bantamweight fought back tears in the ring after the final verdict made him an Olympic champion. Campbell beat his rival 14-11 Saturday night, securing Britain's first gold in his weight division since 1908.

"I won. Can't believe it," Campbell said. "That's what was going through my mind. It's a day I've dreamed of for a long, long time."

Campbell's solemn, teary rendition of "God Save the Queen" in front of his adoring fans had little in common with the other four gold-medal celebrations at ExCel arena.

Ukrainian heavyweight Oleksandr Usyk put on a show that overshadowed even his 14-11 victory over Italy&#3

Bantamweight Luke Campbell won Britain's first Olympic boxing gold medal in his division since 1908, dramatically knocking down rival John Joe Nevin of Ireland midway through the third round of a 14-11 victory Saturday night.

Zou Shiming of China defended his light flyweight gold medal from Beijing with a 13-10 victory over Thailand's Kaeo Pongprayoon, who angrily protested the result.

Light welterweight Roniel Iglesias beat Ukraine's Denys Berinchyk 22-15 for Cuba's first boxing gold in London after failing to win gold in Beijing.

Middleweight Ryota Murata narrowly won the second boxing gold medal in Japan's Olympic history, beating Brazil's Esquiva Falcao 14-13 on the strength of a two-point holding penalty against Falcao in the final round.

Ukrainian heavyweight Oleksandr Usyk capped the night with a 14-11 gold-medal victory over Clemente Russo of Italy, celebrating with a nimble Cossack dance in the center of the ring.

Britain's Campbell edges Nevin for boxing gold

Luke Campbell of Britain won the bantamweight gold medal in the Olympic boxing tournament Saturday night, knocking down John Joe Nevin of Ireland midway through the third round of a 14-11 victory.

Campbell thrilled the roaring home crowd before bursting into tears in the ring.

Campbell won the rubber match with Nevin, his friendly local rival. Nevin beat Campbell soundly in their first meeting three years ago, but Campbell edged Nevin on a tiebreaker at the world championships last year.

Nevin, a two-time Olympian who knocked off world champion Lazaro Alvarez of Cuba, fell just short of winning Ireland's second men's boxing gold medal - and just the 10th gold medal in Ireland's Olympic history.

Ladies and gentleman, meet your first batch of 2012 Olympic gold medalists in men's boxing: Shiming Zou of China, Luke Campbell of Great Britain, Roniel Iglesias Solotongo of Cuba, Ryota Murata of Japan and Oleksandr Usyk of the Ukraine. Two of the five get to the top of the medal stand a bit controversially, as you might expect of this tawdry event.(Roniel Iglesias Sotolongo, right, and Denys Berinchyk, left; photo via London 2012 Olympics website)Light Flyweight 49kg/108lb Shiming Zou (China)-Kaeo Pongprayoon (Thailand), 13-10: My thesaurus has exhausted all the synonyms for "outrage," "disgrace," etc., so I'll just call this one dumb. And, duh, of course Zou won. He had an argument for winning the 1st, and the 2nd was close for Pongprayoon, but Zou came into the 3rd with a 6-4 lead.
Olympic boxing bantam & heavyweight quarterfinals: Luke Campbell, Lazaro Alvarez, Clemente Russo win

Day nine of competition at the London 2012 Olympic Games and the evening session at the ExCeL Arena hosted the action once again with the Men's Bantamweight (56kg) and Heavyweight (91kg) quarter-finals taking place before a capacity crowd.
Cuban southpaw Lazaro Alvarez Estrada, the top seed in the Bantamweight (56kg) draw, faced Robenilson Vieira de Jesus of Brazil in the first of the quarter-finals. The Brazilian orthodox fighter started off furiously, throwing the jab then the quick one-two to impressively outscore the 21-year-old reigning AIBA World Champion.
In the second, the favorite stepped up the pace and looked to impose himself, pummeling his rival with some quality left straights and quick combinations to take a one point advantage going into the second. The third round, saw the Cuban connect again with that straight left with 23-year-old Vieira de Jesus also working hard but Alvarez Estrada had too much in his arsenal as he dominated the final round to win 16:11.
Campbell sets off British boxing's medal rush

Bantamweight Luke Campbell clinched the dominant British team's first boxing medal of the London Olympics on Sunday night in a session marred by a series of unsightly heavyweight fights that probably will be decided outside the ring.

Heavyweights Teymur Mammadov of Azerbaijan and Clemente Russo of Italy both clutched, grabbed and held their way through their quarterfinal bouts at ExCel arena, yet both highly ranked amateurs won narrow scoring decisions that surprised fans and enraged their opponents.

The fighters from Belarus and Cuba said they'll protest the decisions in an Olympics already featuring two overturned results.

Amateur boxing's governing body confirmed Belarus has protested Siarhei Karneyeu's loss to Mammadov. Jose Larduet's Cuban coach says they'll protest his loss to Russo.

Controversial rapper Luke Campbell is granted a license to coach high school football

Luther Campbell has written some of the most offensive lyrics in the history of pop culture as part of the Miami bass group 2 Live Crew.
For the most part most listeners never took them seriously as they were intended to be and were used as the soundtrack of clubs and frat parties everywhere in the early 90’s.
Who thought the author “I Wanna Rock” would end up spending his days as a high school football coach?

The evening session of the fifth day of competition at the London 2012 Olympic Games saw the Bantam (56kg), Heavy (91kg) and Super Heavyweights (91+kg) once again take to the ring at the ExCeL arena where the atmosphere was absolutely electric. The most notable fight was between Anthony Joshua and Erislandy Savon, while the results from another bout have been overturned.
With the great Lennox Lewis, gold medallist at the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games, and Evander Holyfield in the crowd, Great Britain's third seeded Bantamweight (56kg) Luke Campbell, the AIBA World Boxing Championships Baku 2011 silver medalist, opened up proceedings against the experienced 28-year-old Jahyn Vittorio Parrinello. There was a huge expectation from the crowd that the home boxer would be able to impose his style but the Italian was proving more than a match for him.
The 25-year-old British southpaw was looking to make his height advantage count in the opening round but could not get that break...

British boxers win on wacky night

After four fairly orderly days at the Olympics, perhaps the wacky world of amateur boxing was overdue for an eventful night.

An Iranian heavyweight received a curious disqualification, a Japanese boxer protested a strange loss to a pratfalling bantamweight from Azerbaijan, and two British fighters delighted the home crowd with narrow victories Wednesday night.

Iran's Ali Mazaheri left the ring without shaking hands and later cried conspiracy after a German referee disqualified him from his bout with Cuba's Jose Larduet, apparently for an accumulation of holding fouls. Japan's Satoshi Shimizu also filed a protest after he lost a 22-17 decision to second-seeded Magomed Abdulhamidov despite sending him to the canvas five times in the third round in what appeared to be an exhausted fighter's attempt to maintain a narrow lead.

The British crowd jeered and booed those decisions, but stood in near-constant cheers for its home favorites, who still haven't been beaten in London. Bantamweight Luk
