Viloria defeats Romero via 9th round TKO

Viloria vs. Romero III Results
Brian Viloria finally got the edge over Omar Nino Romero, defeating him via 9th round TKO to retain his WBO flyweight title. Romero's corner halted the action in the 9th stanza as Viloria pummeled him along the ropes. With the win, Viloria was able to erase their previous two encounters, in which Romero first defeated him via Unanimous Decision in 2006 at junior flyweight, and then a rematch between the two men ended in Majority Draw before being ruled a no contest after Romero failed a drug test.
Viloria's win also continues his career resurgence. Written off by many people, he's now the de facto number 1 guy in the world at flyweight.By moving past his old rival, he can now focus on bigger fights in the near future. His confidence must now be at all-time high after a huge upset win against Giovani Segura, and this victory against Romero.
Viloria now improves to 31 (18) - 3, while Romero falls to 31 (13) - 5 - 2.
In earlier action, Rodel...

From 2006, Romero has amassed a total of $11,500 in penalties which he needed to pay before the fight is sanctioned.

Viloria always feels at home in Philippines
Three-time world champion Brian "Hawaiian Punch" Viloria always feels at home fighting in the Philippines. He's looking forward to avenging his first pro loss and completing the Omar Nino Romero trilogy there March 31, headlining the "Island Assault 4: The Battle" pay-per-view-event, live from Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City, Metro Manila, Philippines.

"Fighting in the Philippines is like a double-edged sword for me," said Viloria, a dual citizen of the United States and Philippines. "It can hurt if I try to do too much performing well in front of family, friends and fans. It helps, though, when I need energy and get it from the crowd chanting my name to urge you on. I get that extra push from the crowd. It's different for every fighter but I love fighting there at home.
"I love the way they treat me. They love their fighters, like Manny (Pacquiao), and have...

Viloria fighting for legacy & clean slate in Romero Trilogy
Three-time world champion Brian "Hawaiian Punch" Viloria headlines the "Island Assault 4: The Battle" pay-per-view-event, defending his World Boxing Organization ("WBO") Flyweight Championship against Omar Nino Romero, March 31 live from Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City, Metro Manila, Philippines.

For Viloria (30-3, 16 KOs), his third fight against Romero (30-42, 12 KOs) will complete their trilogy and, hopefully, avenge his first loss as a pro. Viloria was a 2000 U.S. Olympian who won his first 20 pro fights, until he lost his World Boxing Council ("WBC") light flyweight belt to Romero by way of a 12-round unanimous decision in 2006. Three months later, their rematch ended in a draw and was later changed to a "no contest" when Romero failed the post-fight drug test.
"I want to clean the slate this fight," Viloria said. "...
