Hatton advises Pacquiao to retire

After a knockout that had Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao on the canvas, many speculated that he would hang up his gloves once and for all. On the other hand, from recent interviews, Manny Pacquiao still believes he has a fight or two still in him. He has dedicated his life to the sport and leaving that one aspect of his life troubles him. He rose to prominence all thanks to the sport of boxing. Ricky Hatton has said in a recent interview that Manny Pacquiao should retire. Hatton said, The only advice I could give Manny Pacquiao is that his legacy is already secured. The thing is with us fighters is that there is always one more fight. What’s he going to achieve by having one more fight? Probably nothing. He’s an eight-weight world champion. There’s nothing more to be said. Ricky Hatton was knocked out by Manny Pacquiao himself back in 2009. That knockout took Hatton down a dangerous path of drugs and suicide. His life started to spiral out of control. As a fellow boxer, H...

Ricky Hatton Retires for Good After Loss

Ricky Hatton, one of England’s best boxers ever, has retired for the second time after losing a bout to Vyacheslav Senchenko of the Ukraine in Manchester, England on Nov. 24.
Hatton was taking on the former WBA Welterweight titleholder in his first fight in over three years, but was knocked out in the ninth round by a brutal left hook to the body. Hatton had retired once before in 2009 after being stopped in the second round by former champion Manny Pacquiao.
The 34-year-old ex junior-welterweight and welterweight champion announced after the loss to Senchenko (33-1, 22 Kos) that he was going to retire for good from boxing, but will still be involved in the sport with his promotion business. He said he wanted to see if he still had the skills to compete with the world’s best boxers, and after the loss, he realized that he doesn’t have what it takes anymore.
Hatton’s career record stands at 45-3 with 32 knockouts. His only losses came to current or former world champions Pacquiao, Senchenko and Floyd M

If you missed the action or just want to see how it all went down, then take a look at this video of the Hatton vs. Senchenko highlights, and the knockout punch that ended Ricky Hatton's career. It was a pinpoint, perfectly placed left hook to the liver which closed the show and ended Hatton's night, and his journey as a professional boxer. Take a look.

In this Hatton vs. Senchenko video highlight reel, you'll see all of the action from fight night. Hatton started the bout well, but ultimately he couldn't close the show. He began to get tired, and Senchenko began to get more confident, and started to dictate the fight. Hatton had been ahead on the scorecards, but unfortunately for him, the fight wouldn't make it to a decision, as matters were settled in the 9th round by that Senchenko body punch.

Hatton vs. Senchenko results & fight night photos: The Hitman set to retire

Last night in Manchester, Ricky Hatton lost his comeback bid against Vyacheslav Senchenko, getting dropped by a left hook to the liver in Round 9, unable to beat the count. He had been winning on the scorecards at the time of the knockout, so it's too bad that he couldn't hang on for the victory. After the fight, Hatton announced that he's retiring for good now and stepping away from the ring after the emotionally draining performance. He was sent off with a hero's farewell from the grateful crowd, who continued singing their songs and chanting for Hatton even after the defeat.
Take a look at a huge collection of Hatton vs. Senchenko photos right here and some more nights from the evening and Hatton's retirement.

Hatton put on a game effort, and as mentioned, was on his way towards winning a decision. However, Senchenko sent him down with a perfect, pinpoint left hook, and the Hitman couldn't recover.

There's only one, Ricky Hatton! And he's back tomorrow night, in a fight which will be aired live on Showtime from Manchester, England. The official weigh-ins for the Ricky Hatton vs. Vyacheslav Senchenko welterweight clash were held this afternoon, and right here, you can take a look at the official weigh-in results, and some photographs from the event as well, where Hatton looked to be in phenomenal condition.

As you can see, Hatton looks to be in great shape, he's cut and he's ready to go. The days of being 210 pounds and binging on beer and drugs seem to be long gone for him. Most importantly, he seems to be having a great time and really enjoying being back in the center of it all.
So the question is, will he come back all the way and pull off a fantastic first victory, putting himself in line for a potential title shot at 147 lbs? We'll see on Saturday, so ...

Hungry Hatton seeks redemption in comeback fight

Ricky Hatton will complete his transformation from a self-described overweight drunk to a redemption-seeking boxer on Saturday when the former two-weight champion returns to the ring for a comeback fight.

It's been 3 1/2 years since Hatton was knocked out by Manny Pacquiao, sending the Briton into retirement and his life spiraling out control.

Hatton has said his battle with alcohol, drugs and weight gain almost led to him taking his own life, but those struggles will be put to one side when he takes on Ukrainian welterweight Vyacheslav Senchenko in a non-title fight in Manchester.

Hatton says ''I'm back to redeem myself, to make people proud of me again.''

Ricky Hatton’s comeback: Why, why not and other considerations

The Trail of Boxing's Latest Comeback Kid
As we approach Ricky “the Hitman” Hatton's return date this November, many observers are still torn over the debate between heart and mind in terms of his decision to come back. There are obvious concerns about ring rust after a three year layoff - particularly one filled with drugs and drinking - but there are also pressing questions surrounding the reasons why a fighter would return when there is nothing more to prove. Conversely, people will flock to see it regardless, and even if he doesn't reach world championship status once again, that likely wouldn't hurt his overall historical standing. Within the context of this comeback fight, I have considered the concerns raised and what the motivation, if any, is for this fight both from the perspective of Hatton as well as the fans.
Why Fight at all?
People look at the prime of an athlete as typically having a very short shelf-life, and nowhere is this more true than in boxi...

Hatton to fight former champ Senchenko on Nov. 24

Former world welterweight champion Ricky Hatton will make his comeback against Vyacheslav Senchenko of Ukraine on Nov. 24.

Hatton, who held titles in both the light welterweight and welterweight divisions, announced this month that he was returning to the ring after three years in retirement.

Promoters announced Friday he will fight the 35-year-old Senchenko in a 10-round bout at the Manchester Arena.

Senchenko, a former WBA welterweight champion, is 32-1. He was stopped in the ninth round by American Paulie Malignaggi in Donetsk, Ukraine, last April.

Hatton, who turns 34 next week and has a 45-2 record, hasn't fought since being knocked out by Manny Pacquiao in 2009. His other loss came against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2007.

Hatton's father attacks him, arrested

The father of British boxer Ricky Hatton was arrested for attacking the former two-weight world champion in a heated argument in a car park.

Britain's Press Association says Ray Hatton, 61, was arrested by police on suspicion of common assault of his son and given a caution.

The incident occurred outside a gym in Manchester on Thursday, the day before the younger Hatton announced he was coming out of retirement, more than three years after his last fight.

Police say the 33-year-old Hatton wasn't injured in the incident with his father.

Hatton won world titles in the welterweight and light-welterweight divisions and has a 45-2 record.

Hatton to come out of retirement

Former two-weight world champion Ricky Hatton says he is coming out of retirement, more than three years after a comprehensive loss to Manny Pacquiao in the Briton's last fight.

Hatton, who won titles in the light welterweight and welterweight divisions, retired last year with a 45-2 record having been stripped of his license to box in 2010 following newspaper revelations of drug use.

His comeback fight has been scheduled for Nov. 24 in Manchester, against an as-yet-unnamed opponent.

The 33-year-old Hatton slipped into depression and considered suicide while trying to come to grips with the second-round knockout by Pacquiao in May 2009.

Hatton says ''no one wants to end their career that way,'' adding that ''it's great to be back.''
