PERNELL WHITAKER

Pernell Whitaker is inducted in the International Boxing Hall Of Fame. This is an honor he richly deserves. His storied amateur career along with his ” Who’s Who ” list of boxers he met in the professional ranks surely entitles him to this honor. What a career he had ! Within two years after turning pro Whitaker was beating the likes of John Montes, Rafael Williams and former champion Alfredo Layne. In 1987 he outpointed the highly regarded Roger Mayweather. He garnered his first title shot in 1988 and he lost a decision that has to be rated among the most unjust of all time. Tough Jose Luis Ramirez had ” retained ” his World Boxing Council lightweight title. It was quite a gift. Pernell regrouped in 1989 and proceeded to give rugged Greg Haugen a boxing lesson to win the International Boxing Federation version of the lightweight title. Later that year he avenged his ” loss ” to Ramirez and picked up the WBC title too. Pernell was awesome at 135 pounds beating back the challen...

Roger Mayweather feels Robert Guerrero brings nothing Floyd Mayweather has seen in the ring

Roger Mayweather feels you do not know anything about boxing, he also feels that you probably are wrong with what you think about Robert Guerrero. The trainer of the undefeated Floyd Mayweather has been by his nephew’s side for a large part of his career.
So it does not take us by surprise when he says that during that time, Floyd has literally seen every type of style out there, and when it comes to what Guerrero is bringing to the table on Saturday night, it wont phase Team Mayweather.
In this interview with Marcos Villegas, Mayweather expresses that Floyd will make Guerrero not believe in his ability to win and laughs at the thought that Guerrero might come in with something never seen before. Take a look at the always entertaining Roger Mayweather.

Mayweather, Guerrero square off in title fight

He claims to be more mature now, chastened by a stint in jail and eager to be just as much a businessman as a fighter. Indeed, Floyd Mayweather Jr. acted almost statesmanlike earlier this week when Robert Guerrero's father began screaming that he was a woman beater who would finally get beaten himself Saturday night.

''The fighters are the ones who fight, not the fathers,'' Mayweather said calmly.

If it's an act, it's a pretty good one. Armed with a new six-fight television deal with Showtime that should keep him the world's highest paid athlete, Mayweather has for the most part taken the high road while promoting his fight against Robert Guerrero as must-see TV for anyone who has an extra $69.95 for the pay-per-view.

Mayweather weighed in at 146 pounds on Friday. Guerrero checked in at the weight-class limit of 147.

The two meet in a scheduled 12-round welterweight title match at the MGM Grand hotel in what will be Mayweather's first fight in a year. It's also his

Robert Guerrero’s Dad Calls Floyd Mayweather a Woman Beater at Press Conference (Video)

The war of words between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Robert Guerrero peaked this week. Rubin Guerrero, Robert’s father was the latest person to throw in a jab so to speak.
Ruben Guerrero, Robert’s father, was given the mic at the May Day press conference today and he let loose. It took about 5 seconds for him to begin yelling at Mayweather Jr.
Here’s what Ruben had to say to Floyd:
“We’re going to beat up that woman beater. Must have learned that from his dad!”
“The one that beat up his wife, man. His wife—in front of his kids.”
Ruben continued his rant for another minute or so before Oscar De La Hoya took the mic and spared the crowd from an ever-going rant.
Here’s the very entertaining video of Mr. Guerrero at the podium.

The trash talk truly picked up yesterday, when both fighters were interviewed by members of the media. Floyd told media yesterday that Guerrero uses his wife’s health struggles to gain sympathy.
Floyd went on to elaborate on his statements:

So who do we think will come out ahead with our Mayweather vs. Guerrero predictions? Is there anybody siding with the Ghost to hand Mayweather his first loss? Take a look below feel free to chime in with your own thoughts and predictions too.
---> Check out our live Mayweather vs. Guerrero results on fight night!

Rich Thomas: It's Pretty Boy Floyd. The only thing to say about Guerrero is that he may actually win some rounds, so the margin of Mayweather's victory will be at it's lowest since the Oscar de la Hoya fight in 2007. Instead of a 118-110 sweep, something more like 116-112 or 115-113.
Prediction: Mayweather via Unanimous Decision

Top 3 reasons Floyd Mayweather could lose to Robert Guerrero

Legendary boxing greats generally seem untouchable in their primes, but they all lose to a common opponent, their true worst enemy -- time. One can only wonder how long Floyd “Money” Mayweather can continue to take long breaks off and still perform at the elite level we have been accustomed to seeing from him.
Is Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero the one to finally put that first blemish on Floyd’s glorified record? Here are the top 3 reasons why you may just want to side with the underdog on May 4th.
Floyd Mayweather Sr. Back in Camp

Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his father, Floyd Sr., have had a very publicly rocky, roller coaster type of relationship as seen on 24/7 . Now though, Floyd Sr. has once again taken the reigns in training camp, for the first time since the early beginnings of Floyd Jr.’s professional career. Is Roger Mayweather's illness finally catching up with him, forcing Mayweather to bring his father back into the fold?
The way that Roger ...

Floyd Mayweather Sr. to Train His Son Floyd Mayweather Jr. For May 4th Fight

We reported a couple of months ago because of Roger Mayweather’s health problems that Mayweather may turned to his father to be his head trainer for his May 4th fight.
That is now a reality now.
“Me & my trainer [my dad] back working together getting ready for May 4th,” Mayweather tweeted.
We will see how long it lasts because Floyd and his father have a very rocky relationship. They have had several blow ups on the HBO Series 24/7 and in the past have went years without speaking. If anything it will be good television. There is still no opponent set for Mayweather’s May 4th bout, but the announcement should be coming within the next two weeks.
While Floyd tweeted the opponent would likely be Devon Alexander, insiders tell BlackSportsOnline, Robert Guerrero is still the front runner for the fight, but nothing is set in stone right now.

Boxing Rumors: Is Floyd Mayweather Retiring? His Uncle/Trainer, Roger, Doesn't Think So

Floyd Mayweather had a great victory Saturday night, defeating Miguel Cotto before he serves his jail sentence. Mayweather recalled his match with Cotto being the toughest ever for him. However, he got the job done, winning his 43rd straight and still undefeated. And he still got the money as well, earning a total of $47 million, a Boxing record.Mayweather did talk retirement after the game, saying that it's a "80-20" chance. However, his uncle/trainer, Roger Mayweather, doesn't think that will happen. "He ain't gonna retire when he can make that kind of money," he told MLive.com. Roger thought it was a great fight as his nephew took control."People liked the fight," he said. "They think the fight was competitive. But it wasn't as competitive as some people thought it was. Rough fight. But as far as the physical punishment, it was put on Cotto. It wasn't put on Floyd, it was put on Cotto."I don't think Mayweather will be retiring anytime

Floyd Mayweather quotables from media day: plus Uncle Roger, Jessie Vargas & DeAndre Latimore

Yesterday evening, Floyd Mayweather held a media training session at his Las Vegas gym. The Mayweather workout was streamed live online, for free, to the fans. But right here, you can find a collection of quotes from the media day event from Floyd Mayweather, trainer Uncle Roger, and the rest of the Money Team, including two fighters taking part on the undercard of the May 5th pay-per-view, Jessie Vargas and DeAndre Latimore.

Floyd Mayweather, Seven-Time and Five-Division World Champion
"I can't overlook a guy like Miguel Cotto.
"I'm always looking to give the fans what they want to see.

"It's been a roller coaster ride throughout my whole career, but I'm blessed to be where I am and I want to continue to go out there and dominate.
"The hard work has been done. During fight week, we will focus on shadow boxing,...

Did Mayweather Really Say No To The 50/50 Split?

We've all heard reports before from mysterious emails. Who could forget back in Dec of 2009 when Teddy Atlas claimed, "From sources that told me, they said that people in the Pacquiao camp sent a couple of e-mails to the Mayweather camp a few weeks ago, about two to three weeks ago, and the first e-mail was,” 'What would the penalty be if our guy tested positive (for PEDs)?' “And the second e-mail was,” 'If he did test positive, could we keep this a secret for the benefit of boxing?’ The same story was also reported by Tim Smith of the New York Daily News on Dec. 25, 2009. Not many people took these claims very seriously and questioned whether or not the alleged emails were legit.

Think about it; would the Pacquiao camp really be that stupid enough to send out those emails to someone in the press? It just doesn’t add up. Just like the whole alleged email about Floyd Mayweather denying the 50/50 split doesn’t fully add up either.
Why were most people so quick to dismiss th
