Bryant Jennings gets past the heavyweight gate, becomes a man to wathc

Bryant Jennings got past Sergei Liakhovich on Saturday night, and he did it in style. When I wrote my preview and prediction for this heavyweight match-up, my editor wondered if I wasn't being too harsh in my evaluation of Liakhovich, who was after all a former WBO titleholder. As it turned out, I pegged the Belarussian just right, but was too conservative regarding "By-By" Jennings. The Philadelphian dominated the "White Wolf." Much to his credit, Liakhovich didn't tuck his tail in between his legs and run, but his corner was still forced to throw in the towel.

The outcome of this fight confirms Liakhovich's status as a gatekeeper, so in decisively routing him, Jennings has confirmed his own status as a rising heavyweight and a man to watch. In my analysis, Jennings is a quick, aggressive boxer with rugged durability, but only average hitting power. In terms of his prospects, I think his fellow Philadelphian Eddi...

Jennings shines against Liakhovich, Adamek returns strong: post-fight quotes

If fight fans found the time last night to check out the NBC Sports Fight Night card, in between the action on HBO (and controversy), and the NCAA Tournament games, then they saw three exciting, fun and crowd pleasing battles. Check out recaps of all three fights on the card right here, Zab Judah vs. Vernon Paris, Bryant Jennings vs. Sergei Liakhovich and Tomasz Adamek vs. Nagy Aguilera. Also, find post-fight quotes from two of the big winners, Judah and Jennings.
ADAMEK BEATS AGUILERA ON POINTS
Tomasz Adamek and Nagy Aguilera went to war over the first four rounds of their 10-round heavyweight bout before Adamek took over the action and swept through the final seven rounds of the fight. However Aguilera stayed in the bout, and occasionally hurt the former champ with his heavy shots. He showed toughness and a willingness to engage, but Adamek was just too skillful. All three judges gave the decision to Adamek by wide margins, 99-91, 100-90, 100-90.

Sergei Liakhovich vs. Bryant Jennings preview & prediction

The undercard of the Zab Judah vs. Vernon Paris fight, scheduled for March 24 in Brooklyn, might prove more interesting than the main event, as heavyweights Sergei Liakhovich and Bryant Jennings duke it out. Whereas the main event is seen as something of a tune-up and comeback platform for Judah (who is coming back for the umpteenth time), the outcome of a clash between Liakhovich and Jennings is far from clear, and both big men have a lot riding on the outcome.
This fight has a tinge of fate surrounding it, since it almost happened back in January. Liakhovich was scheduled to fight Philly slickster Eddie Chambers, but the fast man broke his ribs in sparring and had to pull out. Jennings eagerly stepped in as a late sub, but ultimately everyone concerned decided he was too inexperienced. Instead of Liakhovich, Jennings fought fellow prospect Maurice Byram, and scored a convincing win over him. Now it seems that Jennings isn't viewed as so much of a novice anymore, ...

Liakhovich: My experience will be too much for Jennings

At 35 years of age, former WBO heavyweight champion Sergei Liakhovich, 25-4, 16 KOs, has been around the boxing block a few times. However, the mileage he has logged in the ring figures to be his biggest advantage in his next fight. Liakhovich will take on the younger and perhaps hungrier Bryant Jennings, 27, in a 10-round heavyweight contest on the latest edition of the nationally televised "Fight Night" boxing series on the NBC Sports Network, March 24th from Brooklyn, NY. The broadcast begins at 10PM ET.
"The biggest problem for him will be my experience," said Liakhovich.

And that experience is formidable. He had an all-star amateur career with a 145-15 record and numerous titles, trophies and medals to his credit. As a professional, Sergei has met top heavies like Lamon Brewster, Shannon Briggs, Nikolay Valuev, Dominick Guinn and Maurice Harris. Liakhovich did not beat them all, but he learned valuable...

Jennings ready for big step up against Liakhovich

Upstart heavyweight Bryant Jennings, 12-0, 5 KOs, believes that when opportunity knocks, you have no choice but to answer. In January, Jennings stepped into the main event of the inaugural telecast of NBC Sports Network's "Fight Night" boxing series by seizing one of those unlikely opportunities that sometimes come along. On one week's notice, Jennings accepted a fight with another undefeated prospect and came away with a nationally televised 10-round victory, and for the first time in his career, left a fight with a little buzz surrounding his name.
That buzz translated into yet another opportunity for Jennings on the very next NBC Sports Network "Fight Night" show, promoted by Main Events, March 24th. The fight will be part of fantastic night of boxing featuring Zab Judah vs. Vernon Paris. The broadcast begins at 10PM ET.
On March 24th, Jennings will take on his stiffest test to date when he meets former WBO heavyweight champion Sergei Li...

Tomasz Adamek Also to Appear on Judah-Paris Undercard in Brooklyn:
The White Wolf, Sergei Liakhovich will take on Philadelphia's hot Bryant Jennings in a 10-round co-feature, while heavyweight Tomasz Adamek makes his first ring appearance since facing Heavyweight King Vitali Klitschko on Saturday, March 24th when the NBC Sports Network's "Fight Night" boxing series comes to Brooklyn's Aviator Sports Complex. In the main event of the evening, Brooklyn's Zab Judah takes on unbeaten Junior Welterweight Vernon Paris in a mandated fight for the #1 position in the IBF.
Jennings, 12-0, 5 KO's, who made an enormous hit with the NBC Sports Network audience, last month, when he stepped into the main event on just five days' notice on the inaugural "Fight Night" broadcast and captured the Pennsylvania Heavyweight Title in an exciting 12-round brawl with Maurice Byarm, will face one of the big men who he replaced that night. Liakho...

Heavyweight Jennings moves to 12-0

Bryant Jennings used a fine mix of looping head shots and effective counters to win a 10-round unanimous decision against Maurice Byarm in a heavyweight bout on Saturday night.

Jennings remained undefeated at 12-0 with five KOs, while Byarm, whose father, Lionel, was Evander Holyfield's first pro opponent, lost for the first time, falling to 13-1-1.

The Byarm-Jennings fight was actually a late replacement for the original main event between ranked heavyweights Sergei Liakhovich and Eddie Chambers, who pulled out of the fight on January 13 with fractured ribs injured during training.

It was quite a drop-off to Byarm and Jennings. Neither fighter had gone beyond six rounds before Saturday night. But it also was quite the challenge for two undefeated heavyweights who put their records at risk in front of a national audience on five days' notice.

''I really didn't let any of the TV or the other stuff around bother me,'' Jennings said. ''I went 10 rounds with no problem. To

Liakhovich: Chambers knew about ribs

Former WBO heavyweight champ Sergei Liakhovich has gone public with his distaste for Eddie Chamber's actions related to Saturday's cancelled main event bout on the NBC Sports Network's debut "Fight Night" show and the reason behind him pulling out of the card after hearing of Chamber's injury.

Liakhovich claims that Chambers knew about his rib injury two weeks ago, but failed to inform anybody associated with the event. As a result, with just about a week's notice, Liakhovich felt that he didn't have enough time to properly prepare for a replacement opponent.

In a press release issued to the media from Liakhovich, the fighter from Belarus, who now resides in Scottsdale, Ariz., had this to say:

"Eddie Chambers is trying to save face in the press but I want to set the story straight by telling everyone what really happened. Chambers' medical report about his broken ribs is dated, Jan. 6, 2012. He knew about his broken ribs back then but he didn't let us know unt

Eddie Chambers vs. Sergei Liakhovich Preview & Prediction

Can “Fast” Eddie Chambers box circles around former WBO heavyweight champ Sergei Liakhovich in front of his hometown crowd?
On January 21, 2012, the Asylum Arena in Philadelphia, PA will be the site of the first segment of NBC Sports Network Fight Night which will feature a ten round heavyweight bout between “Fast” Eddie Chambers and former WBO heavyweight champion Sergei Liakhovich in the main event.
This fight features “Fast” Eddie, who uses his elusive boxing skills to jab and counterpunch his way to most of his victories, while the other guy, Sergei “White Wolf” Liakhovich, is a straight-forward boxer puncher who likes to give as good as he takes. However, after an extended break from the sport and a loss in his return, some feel that Liakhovich’s all-action boxing style has left him past his best.
Both of these fighters definitely need a win in this fight to stay relevant near the top of the division, so will elusiveness or aggressiveness win the day on January 21, 2012?
