Tyson Fury-Steve Cunningham results: Fury scores 7th round KO, survives knockdown

On Saturday in Madison Square Garden, Tyson Fury backed up his pre-fight (and mid-fight) boasting and boisterous actions, taking out Steve Cunningham in an entertaining fight televised live in the afternoon on NBC. However, it wasn't all easy, and he had to survive a second round knockdown that left him badly hurt.

The action picked up right away in the first man, and Fury was shouting and taunting Cunningham throughout. After the bell, he pushed Cunningham, looking to intimidate him further.
The action backfired, as at the start of round 2, Cunningham launched a huge overhand right which connected flush and sent Fury straight down on his butt. Still hurt, Fury got up and absorbed some more punishment as he found his legs, eventually settling back in and landing a few shots of his own before the round ended.
In the third, Fury looked to reestablish his size as Cunningham worked to get inside and continue doing damage. He was effective to the...

Car Crash TV: Tyson Fury Spills His Guts Before Hooking Steve Cunningham Off Stage

(Tyson Fury, left, tries to connect on Steve Cunningham)

Steve “USS” Cunningham had chided Tyson Fury for being more like a one-man talk-show than a fighter before their NBC televised heavyweight clash at The Theatre in Madison Square Garden, New York, on Saturday. After an extreme yet strangely enthralling episode, Fury came across more Jerry Springer than Dick Cavett. Cunningham, a bulked up cruiserweight, pole-axed Fury in the 2nd and dipped his knees in the 4th with overhand rights, however, the charismatic leviathan turned the tables in round 7 with a monster right hook that put Cunningham down for the full count.

Fury, 21-0 (15), Manchester, England (but representing Ireland) had blathered up a storm all week. Nevertheless, there was a suspicion that something was amiss when it became apparent his trainer hadn’t accompanied him to the States (reportedly due to a visa issue) and that his chief second would be Derby’s answer to Steve Wilkos in ex-heavyweight Cli...

Tyson Fury stops Steve Cunningham to win US debut

Tyson Fury stopped Steve Cunningham with a right hook five seconds before the end of the seventh round of their heavyweight bout to win his United States debut on Saturday.

It was the 15th knockout for the Briton, who is 21-0. Cunningham fell to 25-6.

Nineteen of Fury's first 20 fights were in the United Kingdom. His only other North American fight was an eight-round defeat of Zack Page in Quebec in 2010.

Fury taunted his American opponent by dropping his hands, exposing his chin and shouting ''come on'' during the first round. Fury's disdain cost him when he was dropped 18 seconds into the second round with a right hook to the chin. Following the knockdown, Fury began attempting to tie up Cunningham on the ropes.

Hell Hath No Fury: Steve Cunningham Vs. Tyson Fury Preview

On April 20, Steve “USS” Cunningham will port in New York City to welcome England’s Tyson Fury across the pond and into the historic realm of Madison Square Garden. The 12-round heavyweight bout is the 2013 debut of boxing programming on basic NBC.

Cunningham (25-5, 12 KOs), a career cruiserweight until two contests ago, returns to the network after a questionable split-decision loss in a rematch with Tomasz Adamek on Dec. 22. At heavyweight he is 1-1, having garnered an easy decision in beating Jason Gavern in September, but he now faces his tallest order yet.

Indeed tall—Tyson towers over most opponents at 6-foot-9—the Manchester native is undefeated with 14 knockouts in 20 bouts. He earned a wide decision over Kevin Johnson in December and stopped Vinny Maddalone by the 5th round in July. Against Cunningham, Fury steps into the squared circle for the first time on U.S. soil. All but one of his bouts had been fought in the United Kingdom, the lone exception an ...

Heavyweights Tyson Fury and Steve Cunningham met face to face at a press conference, Wednesday, at Legends Bar NYC in anticipation of their Saturday afternoon encounter at The Theater at Madison Square Garden. The 12-round official IBF eliminator will determine which competitor will move on to challenge for the World title. Right here, you can find a full collection of Fury vs. Cunningham press conference photos, a video of the presser, and more.

Of course, whenever you see these two guys face-to-face, what's so striking is the huge size difference between them. Fury towers over Cunningham, so U.S.S. will need to be able to outmaneuver him for a full 12 rounds in order to win this fight. We'll see if he has that in him on Saturday, it's a huge opportunity, and a huge challenge in front of him.
The video of the press conference is entertaining as well, because Fury always has something to say, and always plays to the crowd.

Tyson Fury & Steve Cunningham looking for title clash from Saturday’s bout

Heavyweight contenders Tyson Fury, 20-0, 14 KOs, and Steve Cunningham, 25-5, 12 KOs, will clash in a highly anticipated 12 round bout that will place the winner on track to fight for the heavyweight championship of the world.
Only one man will come away victorious in the rare Saturday afternoon clash taking place at The Theater at Madison Square Garden and broadcasted on NBC at 4:00PM ET, and both fighters are determined to be the one.
Victory earns the winner the #2 spot in the IBF world rankings, and puts that fighter just one more step away from facing champion Wladimir Klitschko.
In his first American appearance, Tyson Fury is looking to make his mark as the next big thing in the heavyweight division. At 6' 9" tall, he fits the bill literally, but he will try to prove that his feared punching power can make him the new star of the division.
Fury's outspoken nature at the pre-fight press conference brought him much attention, and he is convinced that he can back up ...

Tyson Fury, Steve Cunningham each pick Nonito Donaire to defeat Guillermo Rigondeaux

When there's an intriguing, big-time fight, everyone wants to chime in with their thoughts on it. Here, you'll find Nonito Donaire vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux predictions from Tyson Fury and Steve Cunningham, who will be taking center stage in New York City one week after the Filipino Flash and the Jackal. Each man, and the majority of the fighters on the undercard, believe Donaire will win. Read what they think will go down here.
Most of the ProBoxing-Fans.com staff picks Nonito Donaire to win as well -- but not all.
Tyson Fury -"I pick Donaire. He's just too classy and has the pro experience to back him up. Rigondeaux may be dangerous the first few rounds, but the longer the fight goes, the more that pro experience will show. This is not really a fight that I would bet on, it could be close."
Steve "USS" Cunningham - "I think Donaire is going to shock a lot of people. He performs exceptionally well when the opponent is great. He steps up very well...

Heavyweight sensation Tyson Fury vowed to take "no prisoners" as he held an open media workout at Final Round Boxing Gym, Ottawa, Canada.
With less than three weeks to go until he faces 36-year-old, former two-time world cruiserweight champion, Steve "USS" Cunningham (25-2, 12 KOs), at The Theater at Madison Square Garden, New York, the 6'9'' Irish heavyweight looked relaxed and assured as he opened his training camp to the media.
Video: Tyson Fury Training Session

Boasting a perfect record of 20-0, with 14 knockouts, Tyson put on a display of shadow boxing and pad work, before making himself available to the press for questions.
"Camp has been going really well, I've had great sparring - everything has gone really well - no stone has been left unturned, so no excuses," Tyson said.

With a little more than two weeks remaining until the fight, Cunningham, 25-2, 12 KOs, appeared confident, conditioned, and ready to fight Irish import Tyson Fury, 20-0, 14 KOs, a 6' 9" rising star of the heavyweight division.

Cunningham went through a light workout for the press before speaking about the upcoming nationally televised fight at The Theater at Madison Square Garden scheduled for Saturday afternoon, April 20th. The Fury - Cunningham battle will be the main event of the 4PM ET broadcast on NBC.

Tyson Fury vs. Steve Cunningham preview & prediction

Fight Pick & Preview - Fury vs. Cunningham:
On April 20 at MSG, rising young heavyweight contender Tyson Fury takes on former cruiserweight kingpin Steve Cunningham. This will be the British Fury’s first stateside performance and probably his toughest test thus far in his young career. The 24-year-old unbeaten heavyweight will be facing a slick, though severely outsized, opponent in “USS” Cunningham, who was denied rightful victory in his last bout against Tomasz Adamek.
Fury is nice little X-factor in the heavyweight division. He’s 6’9” and has youth on his side at 24 against the 36-year-old Cunningham. Fury has grown from domestic British prospect to legitimate world contender. He beat top guys from his region, including a win over then-unbeaten Dereck Chisora. In his last win, he beat American contender Kevin Johnson on points.

Rowdy atmosphere expected at Fury vs. Cunningham at MSG

To make a memorable boxing event, of course the first step is to create a great match, but that is not the only factor that counts. Often the atmosphere at ringside plays a significant role in making an event unforgettable. Fan participation outside the ring can influence the fighters to reach new heights and sometimes even helps to sway the way the fight goes.
When it comes to the Tyson Fury vs. Steve Cunningham heavyweight collision coming up on Saturday, April 20th, consider both areas well covered.
The fight itself is likely to produce a real clash between the dangerous Irish import, Fury, and Cunningham, the more seasoned pro from Philadelphia. The hard-punching, six-foot-nine-inch Fury, 20-0, 14 KOs, is promising a definitive knockout over the former two-time champion. Cunningham, 25-5, 12 KOs, who has never been knocked out, is determined to school his younger foe and deliver the giant his very first defeat.
However, it is the atmosphere for the fight and the involvement of t...
