Tavoris Cloud presses forward

After growing up with very little, in a rough neighborhood, living in a small house that sometimes housed as many as 15 other people, and beating those odds, having a boxing legend in the opposite corner does not seem as daunting a task for Tavoris Cloud.

Still, Saturday night's IBF Light Heavyweight title fight against 48-year-old Bernard Hopkins is the biggest challenge of Cloud's career and a chance to erase some of the doubts created by his last fight, a controversial split decision win over Gabriel Campillo.

"Things happen in boxing, you just have to keep working," he explained. "I know what the truth is. We all have stumbling blocks in the road and sometimes, they'll trip you up a little bit, but I'm going out there, putting on good shows and I'm going to handle my business with Bernard Hopkins."

Cloud is a hard charging, hard punching champion with 19 knockouts in his 24 wins (and zero defeats). Hopkins maintains that he will be a matador to the 31-year-old bu

Hopkins vs. Cloud Weights - IBF Light Heavyweight Title

Tavoris Cloud: 173.8 lbs
Bernard Hopkins: 174.4 lbs

Hopkins had a completely serious, focused and intense look throughout the weigh-ins. He has that me-against-the-world attitude right now which has made him so successful in the past. He got right up into Cloud's face as they squared off and the two engaged in a good deal of back and forth.
The real question here is basically how much does Hopkins have left. Everybody is well aware that he has all of the know...

Hopkins: I'm ready to win title

Tavoris Cloud was 6 years old when Bernard Hopkins made his professional debut. On Saturday (9:30 p.m. ET/PT, HBO) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY, the two men square off with the 48-year-old Hopkins looking to break his own record of becoming the oldest boxer to win a world title.

Hopkins admitted there were some aches and pains here and there during training, but said camp has gone well and sparring has gone well. His last time out, Hopkins lost a majority decision to Chad Dawson. That was last April, and the memory of dropping that close decision has him invigorated and ready to enter the ring.

"I'm very excited about getting in there, but I'm composed," Hopkins said. "There were little things I could have done in the Chad Dawson fight, but I don't believe that was a fight I clearly lost by a margin. I take that away and I'm motivated. There's a small force, one way or another, that's trying to force me out of the game."

There is a larger force that wil

BSO Interview: IBF Light Heavyweight Champion Tavoris Cloud

Tavoris Cloud escape a harsh upbringing and the pitfalls of a rough Tallahassee, Florida neighborhood, to become the current IBF Light Heavyweight Champion of the world. Cloud turned those early misfortunes into fuel for his future. Cloud entered the boxing gym at the age of 17, and hasn’t looked back since. Tavoris won the IBF Light Heavyweight title on August 28, 2009 by defeating Clinton Woods, and has defended that belt four times since then.
On March 9, 2013 at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn, Tavoris Cloud will get a look at his past and his future, when he takes on the legend himself, Philadelphia’s own Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins. Tavoris sat down with BSO to talk Hopkins, his past, his future, Don King, and if he’ll ever fight at Heavyweight.
***
BSO: What got you interested in boxing?
TC: Boxing at the time in 1998, was the only outlet for me. You didn’t have to try out for or make anybody’s team, you could basically walk in the gym and start training. I started boxing

Hopkins, 48, to box Cloud in Brooklyn

At age 48, Bernard Hopkins is looking to do the impossible. Or at least what might seem impossible to the average man.

On March 9, "The Executioner" will try to break his own record as the oldest fighter in history to win a world title when he takes on IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.

Hopkins, who holds a 52-6-2 record with 32 wins by KO, seems to be more than ready for the affair.

"People can say what they want," Hopkins said in a statement released Tuesday, on his 48th birthday. "I have broken records, quieted doubters and solidified my legacy."

The Philadelphia native became the oldest to win a major world championship in May 2011 when he took the WBC light heavyweight title from Jean Pascal at the age of 46. Hopkins lost that title this past April in a rematch with Chad Dawson in a 12-round majority decision. The controversial first Hopkins-Dawson bout, in October 2011, had been ruled a no-contest.

However, the 31-year-

This weekend was a loaded one for boxing fans, with a handful of important fights taking place from Texas to Munich, Germany and elsewhere in between. As such, it's time to update our rankings, and after Cloud vs. Campillo and Williams vs. Ishida, in particular, we've updated the top 10 in those two divisions. Check out our updated 175 lbs rankings and 154 lbs rankings right here.

In the Cloud vs. Campillo contest, we saw what we already knew about Tavoris Cloud... that he's still raw, and isn't a "complete" fighter. Campillo exposed him, and was robbed in a fight he definitely deserved to win. Since we don't follow the rules of dubious decisions, we've adjusted the top 10 accordingly, and Campillo emerges midway through the list, and Cloud tumbles down from #2.
With a comeback win for Paul Williams, he establishes himself ...

Williams returns with strong showing against Ishida, Campillo robbed vs. Cloud

Paul Williams dominated Nobuhiro Ishida en route to a 12-round unanimous decision shutout (120-108 three times) in the super welterweight main event of Showtime Championship Boxing on Saturday night. The telecast was kicked off by a fight that left fans irate at the American Bank Center Arena in Corpus Christi, Texas when Tavoris Cloud defended his International Boxing Federation (IBF) light heavyweight title via split decision over Gabriel Campillo.
The scores were 116-110 and 114-112 for Cloud and 115-111 for Campillo. Campillo though seemingly dominated the entire fight after surviving two early knockdowns, and the decision, including a 116-110 mark for Cloud, is ridiculous. Take a look at a full recap of the event, as well as photos and much more right here.
Williams (41-2, 27 KOs), of Aiken, S.C., stayed busier than Ishida (24-7-2, 9 KOs), of Osaka, Japan, throughout the entire fight, throwing 934 punches to his opponents 671. The consistent performance brought Williams his fi...

Tavoris Cloud vs. Gabriel Campillo: Round By Round

It's time for Showtime Championship Boxing, coming to us tonight from the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. Paul Williams and Nobuhiro Ishida will collide in the main event, but before we get to that, IBF light heavyweight titleholder puts his gold up for grabs against Gabriel Campillo.Gus Johnson, Al Bernstein and Antonio Tarver are on hand to call the action, and Tarver has special insight into the light heavyweight division after spending so much time campaigning there. The Magic Man believes Cloud still needs one defining fight against a compelling opponent to really become a household name. Until then, all he can do is keep winning and trying his best to look good doing it.Campillo comes to the ring first as the challenger. He's a former WBA titleholder looking to capture his second world championship belt. Hailing from Spain, Campillo is 21-3-1 but just 2-1-1 in his last four bouts.Cloud makes his ring walk to some old school music, namely "Can't Truss It" by Public En

Tavoris Cloud pre-fight video feature from Showtime boxing

Right here, boxing fans can find a special pre-fight video feature from Showtime boxing on Tavoris Cloud, the IBF light heavyweight champion of the world. Cloud is one of the best in his division, but is still mostly unknown or disregarded, in large part thanks to the fact that none of the big names want to take him on and meet him in the ring. Right here, you can get to know Cloud a little bit more as he goes through his intense workouts - "kill a *****" training.

Cloud is fit, angry and ready to go, and he is completely focused on the fight and defending his title, and then moving onto bigger and better things. He looks to be one motivated, aggravated dude right now, and he's ready to take care of his business in the ring.
Cloud vs. Campillo is this Saturday on Showtime, and if Cloud defends his title successfully, which big name at or around 175 lbs will agree to face Tavoris Cloud?

Tavoris Cloud vs. Gabriel Campillo Preview & Prediction

Waiting around after a cancelled New Year’s Eve matchup with Zsolt Erdei has made the explosive Tavoris Cloud antsy, which could spell doom for unranked challenger Gabriel Campillo. Although the four months of training could conceivably lead to ring rust in some, it’s hard to imagine that the highly regarded, yet quizzically underrated, reigning IBF Light Heavyweight champion will enter the February 18th contest at a disadvantage.
Still, Cloud would be wise to pay mind to the surprising southpaw Campillo who has only been knocked-out once in his ten-year career. The former WBA World and IBA light heavyweight champion is looking to get his hands back on some gold following a two-year stint without a title and a disappointing draw with Karo Murat for the IBF Inter-Continental Light Heavyweight title in October 2011.
