Unbeaten junior middleweight prospect Julian Williams is the latest in the line of Philadelphia fighters to make an impact in the boxing world beyond the City of Brotherly Love. On Saturday, June 22 Williams will headline a star-studded undercard at Brooklyn's Barclays Center against former World Champion Joachim Alcine.
Also on the telecast will be a six-round light heavyweight clash between 2012 United States Olympian Marcus Browne of Staten Island and Mexico's Ricardo Campillo.
Fighting again a victory for Jacobs

As you step through the red side door at Starrett City Boxing Club, the smell hits you like a glove full of plaster. The odor of sweat, blood and hot air fill the cavernous, cement-walled room, located underneath a parking garage at a housing complex in Brooklyn.

The folks who call this facility home will tell you that's the scent of hard work, and as you look at some of the fighters this place has produced, many of them world champs, you can't help but think that maybe they're onto something.

The list of boxers who got their start at Starrett City is long and accomplished: Mean Joe Green, Monte Barrett, Shannon Briggs, Travis Simms, Luis Collazo, Curtis Stevens, Sadam Ali, Will Rosinsky, Dimitry Salita, Jaidon Codrington -- all products of Jimmy O'Pharrow's gym.

So is Danny Jacobs, better known here as The Golden Child.

Jacobs grew up in Brownsville, the neighborhood that bred former world champs Mike Tyson and Riddick Bowe, and started working with trainer Victor Roundtree at Starret

Ex-boxing champ Simms arrested

Police say a former boxing champion and Connecticut city councilor who yelled at officers and refused to leave a disturbance has been zapped with a stun gun and arrested.

Travis Simms is free on $1,000 bond.

The 41-year-old Simms is a former World Boxing Association light middleweight champion and served two years on the Norwalk city council. He faces charges including breach of peace after his Sunday night arrest.

Police say Simms was among those who refused to leave a large disturbance involving the widow of his adopted brother. They say he screamed at them and strongly resisted when they tried to handcuff him so they used a stun gun to subdue him.

Simms hasn't responded to requests for comment made Monday.

Simms also was arrested in 2010 after authorities say he fought with his twin brother.

More on Alcine’s Upset Win Over Lemieux – Alcine: I’m Ready to Take Care of Business Against Anybody

This past Saturday, on Dec. 10, in front of a packed house at the Bell Centre in Montreal, former junior middleweight world champion Joachim Alcine (33-2-1, 19KO's) turned in one of the most impressive performances of his 12-year professional career in winning an exciting 12-round decision over the highly regarded hometown favorite David Lemieux (25-2, 24KO's).

Credit: DiBella Entertainment

Going into the fight, many viewed Alcine as a sacrificial lamb for the extremely dangerous Lemieux, who wascoming off his first loss eight months earlier. All of the pre-fight talk leading up to the bout focused on how Lemieux was rededicated to the sport, had switched trainers, and was ready to resume his quest toward a world title. No one seemed to be paying much attention when Alcine calmly stated beforehand that he was finishing up his best ever training camp and that it was going to show come fight night.
When the fight started, Lemieux came out hard and fast as...
