Obnoxious British contender Tyson Fury continues to crudely belittle Wladimir Klitschko in hopes of securing a future bout versus The Ring, WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight champion. “I’ll fight that ***** Klitschko any time any place anywhere,” said Fury, 24, who has beaten a host of tomato cans. “All he has to do is name it and I will ready to rip his heart out and make him quit like the ***** he really is!” The 6-foot-9 Fury (21-0, 15 KOs) used to spar against the 37-year-old Klitschko (60-3, 52 KOs) and the mouthy bloke says late trainer Manny … Continue reading →

Klitschko vs. Pianeta results: Klitschko wins by TKO6 against overmatched opponent

The undisputed number 1 heavyweight in the world was back in action on Saturday, as Wladimir Klitschko looked to make yet another title defense, this time against unheralded challenger Francesco Pianeta in Manheim, Germany, in a fight televised in the U.S. on EPIX. Did Klitschko put on another dominant performance? Check out the Klitschko vs. Pianeta results below.

The Pro-Klitschko crowd in the jam-packed arena was enthusiastic as always. Klitschko's former, and once again current, love interest Hayden Panetierre was notably in attendance ringside, and looked fantastic, which is to be expected. That was about as much excitement as the evening would provide.
Pianeta wasn't expected to put up much of a challenge, and Wladimir opened the fight and began asserting himself immediately.
That's not to say that Pianeta wasn't game and trying, though, which is more than some opponents. He would lunge and try to bull his way inside, and launch he...

Wladimir Klitschko vs. Franceso Pianeta weigh-in results & photos

Heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (59-3, 51 KOs), of Ukraine, in his 2013 debut, will be making title defense No. 14 in his current seven-year reign as heavyweight kingpin, against undefeated contender and cancer survivor Francesco Pianeta (28-0-1, 15 KOs), of Italy. "Dr. Steelhammer" will also be going for his landmark 60th professional victory.
Right here, find the Klitschko vs. Pianeta weigh-in results and photos.

Wladimir Klitschko: 249 lbs
Francesco Pianeta: 240 lbs

As you can see from the weigh-in photos, both of these guys are absolutely jacked. That's no surprise for Klitschko, who's always in phenomenal condition, but seeing these two guys next to one another is frightening. They're ripped and ready. Klitschko has the height and reach though, not to mention the incomparable slate of experience, and his supreme skill. Good luck to Francesco, you'll need it.
The fight will take place this Saturday and will be televised live from SAP-...

Pianeta readies for Klitschko fight

Under Wladimir Klitschko's disparaging gaze, Francesco Pianeta did not give much away during an open workout before he challenges the Ukrainian for his WBA and IBF heavyweight belts on Saturday.

The undefeated Italian, who overcame testicular cancer, merely went through the motions in the last public appearance before their bout in Mannheim.

Pianeta, who has lived in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, since he was 6, has won 28 and drawn one of his bouts to date, with 15 knockouts.

The 28-year-old was briefly Klitschko's sparring partner last year and knows the formidable challenge of dethroning the 37-year-old Klitschko, whose record is 59-3 with 51 KOs.

One thing Pianeta can be sure of - the biggest payoff of his career to date.

Pianeta says, ''It's certainly more than usual. I'm satisfied.''

''I know him from inside the ring. Together with my coach Dirk Dzemski we have a tactic to draw Wladimir out of his comfort zone. Then he's vulnerable,'' Pianeta said.

Update: Wladimir Klitschko confirms Emmanuel Steward’s death, or NOT?

Earlier this morning we published a story on the contradicting reports of Emmanuel Steward's passing. Well, it appears that the worst is true, as Wladimir Klitschko has released an official statement on the passing of his longtime trainer and friend.
Update: This statement has now been deleted from the Klitschko Facebook page, continuing to add more speculation to these crazy rumors. Check out original story for more details.
Wladimir's statement to the passing away of Emanuel Steward:
Boxing has suffered a tremendous loss with the passing of Emanuel Steward.
Vitali and I, along with the entire Team Klitschko, send our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Emanuel's family and friends.
It is not often that a person in any line of work gets a chance to work with a legend, well I was privileged enough to work with one for almost a decade.

I will miss our time together. The long talks about boxing, the world, and life itself. Most of all I will miss our friendship....

Klitschko stops Thompson in sixth

Wladimir Klitschko stopped Tony Thompson in the sixth round Saturday at Stade de Suisse to retain his WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight title belts.

The 36-year-old champion Klitschko, 58-3 with 51 knockouts, floored Thompson with a big right hand near the end of the fifth round, and the 40-year-old American never recovered.

The Ukrainian champion dropped Thompson again in the sixth, and referee Sam Williams gave the challenger a standing count before stopping the fight.

In 2008, Klitschko stopped Thompson in the 11th round.

Thompson, who was the mandatory challenger nominated by the IBF, dropped to 36-3.

Wladimir Klitschko to defend belts versus Thompson

Wladimir Klitschko will defend his WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight titles against American challenger Tony Thompson on July 7 in Berne, Switzerland.

Klitschko says on his website that the 40-year-old Thompson ''gave me one of the toughest challenges in my career'' before he knocked out the southpaw in 2008 in Hamburg, Germany.

Thompson, who has won all five bouts since that defeat, has a career record of 36-2 (24 knockouts).

The bout will be the 36-year-old Ukrainian's 21st world championship fight and his first appearance since a knockout win over Jean-Marc Mormeck of France in March in Duesseldorf, Germany.

Klitschko, the 1996 super heavyweight Olympic champion, is 57-3 (50 KOs).

Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tony Thompson II preview & prediction

The domination of the heavyweight division by the Klitschko diarchy lurches forward on July 7, when Wladimir Klitschko defends his all-but undisputed world title in a rematch with the IBF's #1 contender, Tony Thompson. Dr. Steelhammer has what looks to be an ideal foil in the form of Tony the Tiger, because Thompson matches Klitschko in the size department, he is in no way in the same league as Klitschko the Younger.
This promises to be another easy win for the division's top dog, but one that is at least more visually entertaining than Klitschko's past outings. For that reason, fans craving some big man action should tune in and watch two 250-pounders slug it out.
