Following a few trades, including the biggest one thus far that sent Jordan Staal from the Pittsburgh Penguins to the Carolina Hurricanes, many picks have gone as expected. The Edmonton Oilers selected Nail Yakupov with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 NHL Draft, making him the first Russian player taken first overall since Alexander Ovechkin.
