Schumacher says it may be an emotional final race

Seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher is known for his cool demeanor inside a Formula One car.

That could change on Sunday during the Brazilian Grand Prix, the final race of his triumphant career.

Schumacher guarantees he will be completely focused during the race, but admits there will be moments during the day when he ''might even get emotional.''

F1's most successful driver, Schumacher will be retiring for the second time in a career spanning 19 seasons. He had left F1 in 2006, but returned in 2010 with Mercedes.

His struggles with the team continued on Saturday, though, and he will start only 13th in the season finale at Interlagos.

Schumacher said the only thing on his mind when the race starts will be his driving. He won't be thinking about this being his last time in an F1 car.

''I know I will not, that's me,'' he said. ''When in the car I'm focusing 100 percent on what I'm doing.''

But there will be times which will like

Schumacher calm as finale nears

Michael Schumacher's main goal entering his final Formula One race is to have some fun.

The seven-time world champion will finish F1's most successful career at the Brazilian Grand Prix on Sunday. He hopes to enjoy the moment without the pressure of doing well on the track.

Schumacher retired for the first time in 2006, when he came to the season finale in Interlagos still fighting for the championship.

Out of contention this time, the 43-year-old German driver is ''rather relaxed'' and says he comes to the Brazilian GP looking to ''take the best out of it and enjoy it as much as I can.''

Schumacher sums up his career as ''mostly 20 good years and lots of fun and lots of excitement.''

Mizzou employee paid big strip club bill on school card

It has been said that no money is easier to spend than money that isn't yours. Just ask Michael Schumacher, who is the director of video operations for the University of Missouri football team. Schumacher recently used a university credit card to drop $7,605.50 in a single night at Olympic Garden, a strip club located on the strip in Las Vegas.Part of the bill included a rather generous tip of $2,000. I'm not sure what kind of service(s) was provided to warrant such a hefty sum, but I'll leave that up to your imagination. The frivolous spending took place while Schumacher was representing the school at a conference. He was there alone, so the $7,600 tab was all him, but he has since repaid the university in full for his Vegas exploits. No harm, no foul, right?I guess what happens in Vegas really doesn't stay stay in Vegas after all.Via Deadspin.

Missouri Tightens Financial ‘Belt’ Following $7,600 Strip Club Expense By Director of Video Operations

Sometimes it is great to have a corporate card, and sometimes it can backfire pretty significantly like it did for Mizzou director of video operations Michael Schumacher. Schumacher was busted when a recent audit of business expenses revealed bills for more than $7,600 from a Las Vegas strip club.
According to Arkansas Sports 360:
Department spokesman Chad Moller said Tuesday that director of video operations Michael Schumacher had repaid $7,605.50 for two credit charges from a May 5, 2011, visit to Olympic Garden. One of the charges included a $2,000 tip on a $4,400 bill at a nightclub billed as the “only Vegas strip club on the Strip.”
Schumacher was representing Mizzou at a professional conference but traveled alone, Moller said. He said “responsive and appropriate disciplinary action was taken,” but that he was unable to elaborate on a personnel matter. Schumacher did not respond to several messages left at his home and campus office.

Schumacher confirms F1 retirement

Seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher confirmed Thursday that he will retire at the end of the Formula One season.

Though Mercedes had announced last week that Schumacher would be replaced by Lewis Hamilton next season, there had been speculation the 43-year-old German could move to Sauber. He instead chose to end his career.

''Basically, I've decided to retire at the end of the year,'' Schumacher said at the Japanese Grand Prix. ''Although I was able and capable of competing with the best drivers that are around at some point it's time to say goodbye and this time it might be forever.''

Schumacher holds the record for number of championships and for grand prix wins, with 91. He began his career in 1991 and won two titles with Benetton then five for Ferrari. He initially retired in 2006, but made a comeback with Mercedes in 2010. That comeback has not lived up to expectations, with just one podium finish.

Column: No has-been, Schumacher needs another year

(Eds: With AP Photos.) By JOHN LEICESTER AP Sports Columnist Watch out behind, here comes Michael Schumacher!

Oops. Too late.

Crash.

Ramming into the back of Frenchman Jean-Eric Vergne, totaling both their cars at the Singapore Grand Prix, handed ammunition to critics who say a 43-year-old clearly not as razor-sharp as he once was has no business racing in Formula One against drivers far younger and quicker.

The incredulous race engineer who asked, ''What happened there? What happened there?'' over the radio of Schumacher's crumpled Mercedes expressed what television viewers around the world must also have been thinking.

Cue the jokes about the middle-aged racer who could no longer find his brake pedal and who perhaps needs eyeglasses. Failing for the seventh time in 14 races this year to reach the finish line surely was not what the seven-time world champion had in mind when he came out of retirement in 2010.

Still, none of this should mean that Schumacher's F1 career must end s

Schumacher honored as start looms

Michael Schumacher is pleased to have been awarded honorary citizenship of Spa, where he will compete in the 300th race of his career on Sunday.

The 43-year-old German has developed a special affinity with the Belgian circuit, the site of his F1 debut in 1991 and his first win in 1992 en route to a record 91 career victories.

''First race, first victory, the seventh title; last year was the 20th anniversary and now the 300,'' Schumacher said Thursday. ''I've always called Spa my living room, and now I can officially do so.''

He's poised to join an exclusive club this weekend when he lines up on the grid. Only Brazilian driver Rubens Barrichello, with 326 races, has more than Schumacher.

He would probably have already surpassed Barrichello but chose to retire from F1 at the end of 2006, only to return in 2010 with Mercedes.

Statistically, Schumacher is the greatest driver the sport has seen, with 155 podium finishes, 68 pole positions and 77 fastest laps to go with

Schumacher walks away from crash

Michael Schumacher crashed near the end of a wet second practice for the German Grand Prix and was unhurt as he walked from his damaged Mercedes on Friday.

Pastor Maldonado of Venezuela, winner of the Spanish GP, ended with the fastest time in his Williams, with the order decided largely by who was on the track when it was most dry.

Schumacher, in the third and possibly last season of his comeback, lost control on bend 12, spun out and hit the tire barrier, ripping off the rear of his car and damaging the left side.

''I simply slid off track because I lost a little concentration: we were talking on the radio and I was altering some settings at the same time,'' Schumacher said.

He got up and walked away, before returning to watch the marshals haul the wreck away.

The crash brought out the red flag, ending the session with less than four minutes remaining.

Schumacher has won the German GP a record four times and was the last German driver to win his home race, in 2006, his last season with

Seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher has been penalized five grid places at Sunday's Bahrain Grand Prix after making an unscheduled gearbox change following qualifying on Saturday.

According to Formula One regulations, gearboxes are required to last five races.

The penalty is another setback for the Mercedes driver, who had qualified in lowly 17th place due to mechanical problems. He will now start in 22nd.

Williams driver Pastor Maldonado also was penalized five grid spots and will start 21st after making his gearbox change following Friday's practice sessions.

Schumacher begins last F1 season with questions

Michael Schumacher enters the last season of his three-year Formula One comeback with plenty of questions unanswered, while expectations for his Mercedes team remain muted after a series of disappointing results for the seven-time world champion.

Schumacher's decision to come out of retirement in December 2009 was initially greeted with euphoria. The 43-year-old German joined other former champions on the F1 grid, which will feature six at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix on March 18.

But his return has failed to live up to expectations. Since joining Mercedes, his best performance was fourth at the Canadian GP.

Schumacher says ''victory to me is unlikely.''

Schumacher sixth in F1 testing

Michael Schumacher tried out his 2012 Mercedes for the first time Tuesday, setting the sixth fastest time in a Formula One testing session, well behind leader Sebastian Vettel's Red Bull.

Vettel, the two-time defending F1 champion, was quickest at the Catalunya Circuit with a lap of 1 minute, 23.265 seconds to finish nearly nine-tenths of a second ahead of his fellow German.

Niko Hulkenberg of Force India trailed Vettel by just under two-tenths, ahead of Lewis Hamilton of McLaren and Daniel Ricciardo of Toro Rosso. Ferrari's Fernando Alonso edged Schumacher for fifth.

Lotus was forced to abandon the session because of a chassis problem, but expects to return to the track on Wednesday.

Mercedes had used its 2011 design at the first test session last week in Jerez, Spain.

Schumacher paces F1 field in test

Michael Schumacher set the fastest pace on the second day of Formula One preseason testing Wednesday at the Jerez Circuit track.

The German driver, entering the final year of his F1 comeback, used Mercedes' car from last year to clock an early morning lap of 1 minute, 18.561 seconds.

Schumacher says ''it was a good and productive test, full of lots of useful information, and I am now looking forward to driving our 2012 car for the first time at the next test.''

While Schumacher used last year's car to try out the new Pirelli tires, Mark Webber came in second at 0.623 seconds behind driving Red Bull's new 2012 vehicle.

Daniel Ricciardo of Toro Rosso was third, while Kimi Raikkonen was fifth after having the fastest lap on day one.
