Yankees even up series behind Burnett's gem

(Photo by Jed Jacobsohn/Getty Images) When you are looking for a pitcher to match the masterful performance that Cliff Lee had for the Phillies in Game 1, there would be quite a few names that come up before A.J. Burnett. While Burnett's outing wasn't quite up to par with Lee's, the Yankee pitcher did everything he could to silence the Phillie bats in a 3-1 Game 2 win for New York. Burnett was on point all night, throwing first pitch strikes to nearly every batter he faced en rout...

Yanks Run Win Streak To 4 As Burnett DOMINATES The Mets

Let the good times roll. The Yankees continued their winning ways, running the win steak to 4 with a 5-0 shutout of their crosstown rivals. Tonight's win was all about one man: A.J. Burnett. A.J. in a word: awesome. A.J. in another word: dominant. The Mets couldn't touch him. The Mets haven't really been able to touch any Yankee pitcher this series. The Mets have managed 4 hits in these 2 games. I caught about 30 seconds of the post game show. Someone, I think Joel Sherman, asked ...

The Yankees wives aren’t hard on the eyes and A. J. Burnett’s wife, Karen Burnett, is a nominee for Fantasy Baseball Dugout’s Baseball’s Hottest Wife for 2009.
Several sources on the internet say that Karen Burnett is a former stripper and she has the body to prove that as a possibility. She has a great fear [...]

Apparently, the Yankees are getting their free agents this year by convincing their wives that New York is the place to be. First, it was Burnett's wife, now Teixeira's. Click through for the story.

That's when I heard AJ Burnett say this: "I'm looking forward to it; it's going to be a fun ride."
Fun ride? Hey AJ, are you out of your cotton pickin' mind? Huh? Are you?

Yanks Clear Front-Runners To Get Burnett

From Ken Rosenthal: Burnett's representatives were expected to contact interested clubs Thursday, giving them one last chance to beat the Yankees offer of five years and approximately $85 million. The big question now is will the Braves counter. Buster Olney said earlier in the day that the ...

Yankees close to being suckers for Burnett

It appears that the New York Yankees weren't about to see the Atlanta Braves sign often injured and over thirty pitcher A.J. Burnett to a huge contract.
Instead the Yankees have now become the front runners offering between $85 and $91 million over five years for the right hander who has made thirty starts just twice [...]

No Win Situation

I have to give the Toronto Blue Jays credit and if you've been hanging around these parts for the last year or so, you know that doesn't come easy.
The Jays have been holding up their end of the deal, taking four of the first five games in their fifteen game stretch against the American League [...]

AJ Burnett to the Mets?

According to ESPN's Jayson Stark, the Mets have inquired on Toronto's A.J. Burnett. Burnett's opt-out effectively puts him on a one-year deal, but worse.

Burnett is definitely the frontline type of guy the Mets have been looking for, despite the injury concerns. Those concerns plus the contract situation should definitely leave Burnett in the Mets' price range, however Stark says it's a long shot at best.

Guest Commentary: My Dad

Since we have had contributions from all of the Mop Up Duty fathers, Early's father Daperman and Kman's father "Baseball Wizard", I figured I would ask my Dad his thoughts on the state of the Jays. For those with virgin ears, beware: this article is profanity laced and the thoughts and views expressed in this article do not necessarily reflect those of Mop Up Duty.

To preface this article, I will give you some background on my Dad. He immigrated to Canada from Scotland...
