Goalie Hutton Recalled

Back on March 6, I wrote a blog called “Goalie Of The Future?” . It was in reference to the Rockford Ice Hogs (AHL affiliate) goaltender Carter Hutton. A couple of games ago—March 16th, against Dallas, Hutton was brought up as the back up to Crawford. Ray Emery was listed as “under the weather”.

I didn’t buy it then (refer to that recap) and I don’t buy it now. I believe it was a “here’s what the big leagues are like” walk through for the kid. Coach Q has NEVER been afraid to try kids (Shaw, Smith, Morin, Hayes, Pirri, Saad, etc). He also has never shied away from switching goalies (Huet / Niemi, Turco / Crawford, etc.) I would not be surprised to see this kid between the pipes soon. Neither Crawford or Emery has shown the want or ability to take over the # 1 spot. Hutton is 21 - 10 - 3, with a .919 save percentage as an Ice Hog. Since signing hie 1 year deal with the Hawks, he has been 11 - 2 - 1 in his last 15 AHL games. He was the AHL Player of the Week back on March 4th, and s...

Race Car Driver Donnie Ray Crawford III Murdered By His Grandfather

Terrible story.
An odd one as well as you will see. Thoughts and prayers are with the family.
Larry Brown Sports has the details.
Race car driver Donnie Ray Crawford III (pictured) was killed Saturday morning by his grandfather, Daniel Garcia, who also died in the shooting at the family’s home.
Wagoner County Sheriff Bob Colbert says the 74-year-old Garcia, who was living with the Crawford family, went into his grandson’s room and began shooting. Jodi Crawford, Garcia’s daughter and Donnie Ray III’s mother, tried to stop the shooting, as did the boy’s father, Donnie Ray Crawford Jr. Jodi Crawford was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the hip while Donnie Ray Crawford Jr. reportedly was not seriously hurt.

Stewart 10th; Swindell wins Chili Bowl

NASCAR star Tony Stewart returned from two days of testing at Daytona to finish 10th in the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals on Saturday, while Kevin Swindell led wire to wire in the 55-lap main event en route to his third consecutive title.

A record crowd of 17,227 watched Swindell, from Germantown, Tenn., easily edge his father, Sammy Swindell, a five-time champion, in the indoor Midget event on the 1/5-mile dirt oval at QuikTrip Center.

''My focus is not on NASCAR this week, but doing well in Tulsa,'' the three-time Sprint Cup champion said. ''This is a small track, and that's what makes this event so cool.

''It's about the car and engine combination. You don't have to have the baddest car out there, but to win you have to be spot on. One mistake will catch up with you.''

After starting 10th, Stewart made no errors, but couldn't advance on a night where cars played follow the leader. Kevin Swindell was chased all the way by his father, who started behi

Dunkerken & Lemley Among Tulsa Shootout Stars!

12/31/2011

	By Lonnie Wheatley

TULSA, Okla. (December 31, 2011) – The Speedway Motors Tulsa Shootout continues to break through new barriers, with the 27th edition of the event held over New Year’s weekend at the QuikTrip Center’s Tulsa Expo Raceway breaking a world record entry count for Micro and Mini Sprints that was set at the previous year’s event.

And when Saturday night’s final New Year’s Eve checkered flag flew, California’s Heath Dunkerken and Washington’s Brock Lemley were among the headliners of the event that attracted 790 competing entries from throughout the nation and beyond, though there were plenty of other accolades to go around.

Dunkerken nabbed his first Golden Driller trophy by leading 27 of 30 circuits in the headline Outlaw Micro Sprint Car championship feature event, beating teammate Michael Faccinto to the stripe before a bustling crowd.

While Dunkerken topped the headline class, Lemley was the only driver among the eight different classes of compet...
