Buehrle Named Best Pitcher in Fielding Bible Awards

Buehrle Named Best Pitcher in Fielding Bible Awards
Pitcher – Mark Buehrle, Chicago
In The Fielding Bible—Volume II, we put some extra time into analyzing pitcher defense. It’s not only pitchers’ ability to field their position that counts defensively. It’s their ability to hold runners that matters in an important way as well. In Buehrle’s case, he has it all. His plus/minus figure of +9 was tops among pitchers in 2009, but his ability to hold runners is legendary. In the last four ye...

Mark Buehrle Makes History. Again.

Mark Buehrle's badassery knew no bounds for quite a while there. The Chicago White Sox ace set a major league record Tuesday night by retiring 45 straight batters. In a row. Right on the heels of his perfect game against the Tampa Bay Rays, Buehrle sailed through the first five innings against the Minnesota Twins. He retired the first 17 batters he faced, breaking Jim Barr's 1972 record of 41 which was tied by White Sox reliever Bobby Jenks back in 2007.His bid for a second consecutive perfect game, which no man has ever done, ended with a walk to Alexi Casilla with two outs in the sixth inning. I found this rather funny, since Casilla is batting like .162 and has no business even being in the big leagues. After a standing ovation by the Metrodome crowd with the no-hitter still in tact, Denard Span followed with a base hit to fizzle that dream as well. The Twins went on to win 5-3 after Joe Mauer, Brendan Harris and Nick Punto all drove in some runs behind Scott Baker and the bullpen.Regardless, congratulations are in order for Mr. Burly. That's pretty badass.[MLB] | [Fanhouse] | [Hardball]

Congratulations to Mark Buehrle, who thre the first perfect game in five years as he beat the Tampa Bay Rays -- the reigning American League champs -- 5-0.
Mark Buehrle pitches perfect game against Rays

Mark Buehrle struck out six in his 11th win of the season, throwing a perfect game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

What made the perfect game even more spectacular was a home-run robbing catch made by Dewayne Wise over the left center field wall in the 9th inning. Buehrle also worked back from a 3-1 count in the same inning to strike out Michel Hernandez.

This perfect game is the second no-hit performance of Buehrle's career and is the 16th perfect game in modern history.
