Tony Kanaan will reach a milestone in his racing career in his home race. Kanaan, who hasn't finished better than 12th in three previous starts in Sao Paulo, is scheduled to make his 200th consecutive Indy car start at Sao Paulo - a streak that began more than a decade ago. He would be the second driver to reach 200 consecutive starts, joining his team co-owner, Jimmy Vasser."You don't get to 200 races by accident," Kanaan said. "I have a lot of racing left in me."The 2013 IZOD IndyCar Series season continues with the Itaipava Sao Paulo Indy 300 presented by Nestle on Sunday, May 5, on the streets of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Kanaan is home for IndyCar, but hand is hurting

Racing at home won't be as much fun for Tony Kanaan.

The Brazilian arrives at the Sao Paulo 300 with an injured right hand that he knows will bother him. He just doesn't know how much. He said his hand is ''still a mystery.''

Kanaan doesn't think it will keep him from driving in his 200th consecutive race Sunday, but he isn't sure if he will be able to get through the entire IndyCar event on a demanding street track.

He was hurt in a crash late in the race at Long Beach, Calif., two weeks ago. He broke no bones but he tore ligaments that will hinder some of his movements.

''The only thing I know is that it will hurt,'' Kanaan said Thursday. ''I don't know how much it will hurt and how much of the pain I'll be able to handle. I'll only know if I'll be able to drive after the first practice on Saturday morning. But, being Brazil, I know that I will have to suck it up.''

Kanaan is the driver with the most consecutive starts at I

Tony Kanaan: I haven't been around all these years because I'm a lucky guy.

Tony Kanaan came home 4th at St. Pete. INDYCAR veteran Tony Kanaan finished fourth at St. Pete this past Sunday, his 107th top five in his career. That ties him with Gordon Johncock and Helio Castoneves for 10th all-time. The Brazilian is also closing in on Jimmy Vassar's record for consecutive starts. Today, he spoke with the media on the longevity of his career, breaking in a new teammate in Simona De Silvestro and the next race on the schedule at Barber."I haven't been around all these years because I'm a lucky guy." TK said. He added "So hopefully being part of the record book, it's awesome, you're part of history, you did well in your career. I didn't know about my top -5 finishes. That's awesome. I don't count them a lot. But trying to beat Jimmy Vasser on the most consecutive starts will be great. I think by the time we get to Baltimore, that's when it's going to be. Hopefully him being my boss, he will let me do that. Ho...

Kanaan says de Silvestro pushing him to his limit

(Eds: Updates with quotes, details. With AP Photos.) By JENNA FRYER AP Auto Racing Writer Tony Kanaan is feeling the pressure from new teammate Simona de Silvestro in a way that reminds him of his days battling Alex Zanardi.

Kanaan finished fourth in IndyCar's season-opening race at St. Pete, where he passed de Silvestro in the closing laps to ensure he was the highest-finishing driver for KV Racing Technology. She finished sixth in her debut race with her new team, losing three positions in the final two laps because of old tires.

Kanaan admitted Wednesday de Silvestro's pace and potential is pushing him on the track.

''Simona brought a lot of spark and light into the team. I enjoy working with her. I have no problem teaching her whatever I can,'' he said. ''I like to see this young girl that wants to do well, because that's her opportunity. That obviously pushes me to my limit. I'm going to admit that she's extremely fast. I said that even before she was my tea

KV Racing signs sponsor in time for season opener

Tony Kanaan has landed a nine-race sponsorship deal with Hydroxycut just in time for the IndyCar season opener at St. Petersburg.

The deal between KV Racing Technology-SH and the weight-loss supplement company helps the team replace longtime sponsor Geico, which gave the organization little notice it was pulling out of IndyCar.

''We're really stoked to bring a new sponsor into IndyCar, especially at the 11th hour to replace the Geico situation,'' said team co-owner Jimmy Vasser.

KV learned in February that Geico, which sponsors Casey Mears in NASCAR, was not returning to IndyCar this season. It comes at a time when smaller IndyCar teams are struggling to find sponsorship and Geico's decision left KV scrambling to find a replacement for Kanaan, one of IndyCar's most popular drivers, with only a month to go before the season opened.

Kanaan will debut the aggressive black livery on the No. 11 Chevrolet when the street course officially opens Friday.

Simona de Silvestro signs with KV Racing for 2013

KV Racing Technology has signed Simona de Silvestro for the 2013 IndyCar season.

The Swiss driver will join Tony Kanaan for a two-car KV Racing effort next season. It will be the first time de Silvestro has had a teammate in IndyCar.

She will drive the No. 78 and will be sponsored by the Nuclear Clean Air Energy campaign.

She spent the last three seasons driving for HVM Racing, and last year with an underpowered Lotus engine. It made for a frustrating season in which de Silvestro completed just 45 percent of her laps.

Now she'll get a Chevrolet engine at KV, and a veteran teammate in Kanaan. The team also announced Imran Safiulla had joined as a team principal. Safiulla has supported de Silvestro's racing since 2006.

Kanaan, Barrichello take on new rides

IndyCar driver Tony Kanaan will ride in two stock car races in Brazil this year, competing against former Formula One driver and fellow Brazilian Rubens Barrichello in one of them.

Kanaan will race in Brasilia on Nov. 11 and in Sao Paulo on Dec. 9. Barrichello, Kanaan's KV Racing Technology teammate, will race only in the season finale at the Interlagos track in Sao Paulo.

Kanaan will be making his debut in the local series. Like Barrichello, Kanaan will be donating his earnings in Brazil to charity.

Kanaan finished ninth in this year's IndyCar season and will return to the series next year. Barrichello has yet to announce if he will be back.

IndyCar: Tony Kanaan Knocking On the Door of Victory Lane

No one is hotter than Ryan Hunter-Reay in the IZOD IndyCar Series, but Tony Kanaan is close.
The Brazilian is knocking at the door of returning to victory lane for the first time since Iowa in 2010. It's been 36 races since his last victory, but I think Kanaan is close to breaking through.
Kanaan finished fourth yesterday in the Honda Indy Toronto. The run marked his third straight top-five finish and the fourth top-five in the past six races. Kanaan's only two finishes outside the top five since Indy were a sixth place in Belle Isle and an 11th in Texas.
Even Texas was a race in which he was a factor until the end. However, Will Power cut Kanaan off and cut down his tire, forcing him to make an unscheduled pit stop.
The recent hot streak has put Kanaan one point outside the top five in the points and if luck goes his way he can stay in the title hunt.
I don't think there's anyone more deserving of getting in victory lane than Kanaan. He's been a factor in n...

Rahal, Kanaan, Viso penalized

Graham Rahal, Tony Kanaan and E.J. Viso have been penalized 10 spots on the starting grid for Saturday night's IndyCar race in Iowa because of unapproved engine changes.

Rahal had issues with his engine Friday morning and switched it out before its mile limit.

Kanaan and Viso put in new engines earlier this week after last weekend's race in Milwaukee.

IndyCar also has updated the rules for the qualifying heat races set for later Friday. The grids for those three heats will be set by practice times, and IndyCar says any car that interferes with another will have its best two timed laps disallowed. If a car breaks the rules again, its session times will be voided and it'll be banned from the rest of practice.

Kanaan comes up short again at Indianapolis 500

Tony Kanaan was hoping his luck would change at this year's Indianapolis 500.

Not a chance.

The hard-luck Brazilian was passed by both of Chip Ganassi's drivers on the final restart of the race, losing the lead on lap 195 and settling for third place behind Dario Franchitti and runner-up Scott Dixon. It was his fifth top-10 finish in 11 career starts at Indy.

For Kanaan, it was another bitter ending.

His team owner, Jimmy Vasser, thought Kanaan did an incredible job putting the No. 11 car in position for the win.

Kanaan hoping 11th Indy start finally brings luck

Tony Kanaan has been called just about every name in the book.

Fan favorite, pole-sitter, race-day favorite, race leader, even the last starter on the grid.

For Kanaan, the past decade of Indianapolis has been filled with close calls, bad luck and frustration.

But he keeps coming back to this 2.5-mile oval because he loves the race and its fans, and he figures eventually, the racing spirits might show some empathy for him, too.

''I don't think I've had a bad memory here,'' he says with that confident smile and playful chuckle. ''I've just got to think things happen for a reason.''

Whatever the reason, Kanaan, the 2004 IndyCar champ, has been the king of hard knocks at Indy.

- In 2004, he was leading until a pit stop on lap 133, then ran second until Buddy Rice passed him on lap 150. Thirty laps later, a storm sent Rice to Victory Lane and Kanaan to a post-race news conference as the runner-up.

- In 2007, he was leading on lap 113 when the rain came. After a l
