First place D-Backs welcome Marlins to Chase

After taking two trips to South Florida to play the Marlins already this season, the Arizona Diamondbacks get to play host to the Fish this weekend. Florida was not a very accomodating host to the Diamondbacks, sweeping a 3-game set in May, and taking two out of three in June. Now, the new [...]

It's back to division play for the Arizona Diamondbacks, as they open a 6-game homestand with a 3-game series against the woeful San Diego Padres. And playing in the division is fine with Arizona. The Diamondbacks have gone 31-16 against teams in their division this season. If the NL West standings w

Diamondbacks rout Astros 12-2

The Skinny: The Arizona Diamondbacks brought their hitting shoes to Minute Maid Park in Houston, scorching the Astros 12-2 in a game that was never in doubt. The Diamondbacks scored 3 runs in the first inning off of Astros' starter Wandy Rodriguez and never looked back. The 12 runs was more than enough r

D-Backs visit red-hot Astros

It's always fun when the Astros and the Diamondbacks get together. Mostly because it looks like an intrasquad game, seeing as the two squads have exactly the same color schemes. Of course, the Diamondbacks call there shade of red "Sedona Red", while the Astros sport "brick red".

D-Backs pound Rockies 6-2

The Skinny: Adam Dunn's 2-run single highlighted a 5-run 5th inning, and the Arizona Diamondbacks took the rubber game of a 3-game series, beating the Colorado Rockies 6-2. Chris Snyder started the scoring in the 5th with a 2-run homer, and the next batter, Chris Burke followed with a solo shot (his f

Conor Jackson taken to hospital

Arizona Diamondbacks' 1B Conor Jackson was taken to the hospital during tonight's game verse the Cincinnati Reds. He was pinch-hit for by Chris Burke in the 5th inning and at the time it didn't seem to be an injury. There had been rumors in press row about a stomach illness had been bothering him over the past few days. Jackson went to the hospital after the game because he was still having trouble breathing.

Astros CF Job: Jason Lane, Hunter Pence and Chris Burke

Three men enter, one man leave. Lane has a 1,000 bats under his belt. Burke has paid his dues and Pence has never hit above Triple-A. Who do Astros fans want? The rookie, of course, but is he their best bet for 2007?

Is 27 really the magic age for every player?

"In fantasy baseball, the ripe old age when potential turns to production and boys become men is 27, the beginning of a player's prime time and the point when a breakout season is most likely to occur."

Tony Finn of SI breaks down the players who will benefit in their year 27 campaigns and those who won't. Injury reports and depth charts are important, but this fantasy document can make as much of an impact on a draft as anything else. Read on, my friends.

Chris Burke may benefit from Astro-Rockies trade

With W. Taveras gone to Colorado Burke may get regular time as the Astros CF this year. Burke hit 9HR, had 11SBs and hit .276 in 366 ABs last year. Regular time may make him a 20-20 threat. He's also shown some good progression in OBP (.200, .309, .347) over the last three years and SLG (.059, .368, .418). The first year stats are from a very small sample size but the last two years came in 318 and 366 respectively. That he'll keep his 2B eligibility is a nice bonus.

Coco Crisp and Chris Burke Peak Rockies Interest

Looking at a 2007 budget of $52 million, the Rockies have some interesting decisions to make this offseason. They won't be in the running for centerfielders such as Gary Matthews, Juan Pierre or even Dave Roberts (who will command a multi-year deal). They'll have to get creative. That means GM Dan O'Dowd might look for possible trading partners instead of making a splash in free agency.

Chris Burke and Coco Crisp would make for intriguing options. Burke was the Astros top prospect in 2004, but has failed to find an everyday place in the lineup. With Hunter Pence and Luke Scott pushing for playing time in the outfield and Biggio and Everett locked up for 2007, Burke could easily be made available. The Coco Crisp experiment in Boston was a disaster. I'm not sure the Red Sox are ready to move on, but if they are, I'd expect the Rockis to be major players. Crisp's season was derailed mostly by injuries. Coco will be only 27 on opening day, so his best years are still ahead of him.

Nice first game for Aubrey Huff

It's pretty cool to see a guy hit a homerun in his first game with a new team and Huff did just that tonight. In the 8th against the Marlins in 1-1 tie, Taveras singled to start the inning and Burke reached on an error after that. Big Lance Berkman then drove in Willy to go ahead 2-1. With blood in the water already, Huff smacked a 3-Run homer to put the Astros up 5-1. The announcer couldnt' have said it better as he ended the broadcast an inning later, "Huff sure does look good in an Astros uniform."
