Braves Sign Chris Burke

Talking Chop reports that the Braves signed utilityman Chris Burke to a minor league deal. Burke, 29, has played every position but pitcher and catcher in the major leagues. In 32 games with the Padres this year, Burke's OPS was .575. More recently, he played in Triple A Tacoma in the Mariners' organization. Burke was assigned to Triple-A Gwinnett, and struck out in a pinch hitting appearance tonight.

The Braves have signed SS Chris Burke to a minor league contract and assigned him to AAA Gwinnett. Burke has played parts of six seasons in the Major Leagues with Houston, Arizona, and most recently with San Diego, playing 32 games for the Padres this season, hitting .207. His most recent team was Tacoma , AAA for Seattle, where he hit .237 in just 10 games. Padres Acquire Chris Burke

After learning that shortstop Everth Cabrera has a broken hand, the Padres reacquired Chris Burke from the Seattle Mariners for a player to be named later. The Padres traded Chris Burke to the Mariners just three weeks ago, and is hitting just .237 in 38 at-bats with the Mariners Triple-A team. The Padres acquired Cabrera through the Rule 5 draft from the Rockies, and traded Burke after deciding that Cabrera had earned a spot on the 25-man roster.

Burke probably won't have much impact on the Padres.

Conor Jackson taken to hospital

Arizona Diamondbacks' 1B Conor Jackson was taken to the hospital during tonight's game verse the Cincinnati Reds. He was pinch-hit for by Chris Burke in the 5th inning and at the time it didn't seem to be an injury. There had been rumors in press row about a stomach illness had been bothering him over the past few days. Jackson went to the hospital after the game because he was still having trouble breathing.
