NFL FanHouse Podcast: The Debut

by Chris BurkeFiled under: NFL PodcastFashionably late is better than unfashionably absent. It's not a pretty motto (you might prefer "It's better late than never"), but it holds true for our NFL FanHouse podcast, which gets off the ground this week. In the inaugural run, Matt Snyder and Chris Burke tackle some pressing Week 10 topics -- like the game-changing spot of the ball on New England's fateful fourth-down play -- and look ahead to several important Week 11 matchu...

Atlanta Braves Minor League Recap: 7/22

Norfolk 2, Gwinnett 8

C. Burke 2-4 2 2B, 2 RBI, BB
B. Canizares 3-5 2B
C. Sammons 3-3 2B, HR(6), 2BB
J. Reyes 4IP 5H 2R 1BB 1K

I would say it is hard to lose a game when your 2-5 guys go 8-17 with 5 XBH and one of those guys was 0-5 (Kelly Johnson, by the way). JoJo Reyes had his longest outing since coming off the DL and was just OK. He wasn't real special but he got the job done. I keep thinking Chris Burke is hitting better than he actually is. Tonight is probably the firs...

Atlanta Braves Minor League Recap: 7/9

Apologies to whoever it was I warned and then deleted their Baseball America top 25 list yesterday. When I went to the site the only list that was up was the paid for list with the snippet scouting reports.
Gwinnett 8, Durham 6

K. Johnson 2-2 3B, RBI, 3BB
B. Canizares 2-5 2B, HR(10), 3 RBI
C. Burke 2-5 HR(2), K

See now this is the Kelly Johnson that we know and love from a couple seasons back. Maybe Kelly can find himself in his 'rehab' stint in Gwinnett. I also think I a...

Gwinnett 7, Lousiville 3

C. Burke 2-3 2B, RBI, BB
B. Barton 3-4 HR(4), 3 RBI, K

A smatterting of relievers pitched in for this start after Francisely Bueno left the game after the 2nd inning. Chris Burke will be the best player in Atlanta in two weeks. I mean the dude is hitting like .500 for Gwinnett! Call him up now! Not really, but you never know, he was a top prospect at one time so maybe he can find something with the Braves.

In 32 games with the Padres this year, Burke's OPS was .575. More recently, he played in Triple A Tacoma in the Mariners' organization.
Burke was assigned to Triple-A Gwinnett, and struck out in a pinch hitting appearance tonight.

Welcome Back Burke

Today we re-acquired INF Chris Burke from the Seattle Mariners for cash considerations. When we signed Chris over the winter, we thought he had a legitimate chance to contribute to the big league club, especially because we believed that he had been better than his numbers indicated in 2007 and 2008. Chris then came to camp and had a solid spring training, but we had signed David Eckstein in the interim and Everth Cabrera showed us what he was all about. Feeling that Chris might have a better ...

Arizona Diamondbacks' 1B Conor Jackson was taken to the hospital during tonight's game verse the Cincinnati Reds. He was pinch-hit for by Chris Burke in the 5th inning and at the time it didn't seem to be an injury. There had been rumors in press row about a stomach illness had been bothering him over the past few days. Jackson went to the hospital after the game because he was still having trouble breathing.
