Is it just me, or do the numerous reports of the Pirates pursuing injured or damaged-goods players remind anyone of the 2002-2003 offseason, when Dave Littlefield grabbed Reggie Sanders, Matt Stairs, Kenny Lofton and Jeff Suppan on the cheap? Frank Coonelly is e...

This is the second installment in a twelve part series.

Derek Shelton became the Indians hitting coach in June 2005, replacing Eddie Murray. At the time, the Indians ranked towards the bottom of the league in hitting, and manager Eric Wedge thought it was time for a change:

"It's not just about right now, it's just about w...

My favorite Sosa memories

I was fifteen during the summer of 98, and was barely a baseball fan at the time, let alone a Cubs fan. My family is full of Cubs fans but as I grew up in the DC area and didn’t have cable for most of my childhood, my baseball fandom was pretty much confined to watching the playoffs, so I didn’t see much of the Cubs. Sosa changed all of that for me - the summer of 98 was when I became a fan of baseball on my own terms. Sosa just had fun playing baseball, and he shared his joy fo...

Juan Pierre Has Amazing Power

Seriously though, congratulations to him, i've never seen the guy look so happy this year. That home run wasn't a lucky one that just cleared either, that shit was crushed. The swing reminded me of Kenny Lofton in his prime.

Unfortunately, that is where my love fest for Juan ends. Mainly because I will throw up in my mouth if a 3 for 5 game and one home run means more starts over Ethier or Kemp.

Teams Conspiring to Keep Bonds Out of Baseball?

With players like Barry Bonds and Kenny Lofton left unsigned, the MLBPA is investigating the possibility of collusion by teams. In the case of Bonds, he hasn't even been contacted since becoming a free agent. There reason is not collusion, but just common sense.

Steve Kerr. Not only a GM, but a rapper too!

The guys over at 100% Injury Rate tossed this over to me this morning…And there is nothing funnier to see than a current GM rapping in a 1980s. Period. Steve Kerr, Kenny Lofton, Tom Tolbert, Jud Buechler and Sean Elliott all grace the video (or should I say embarrass themselves). Gotta love it.

The Kenny Lofton/Josh Beckett 2005 Incident

I managed to dig up the clip from the 2005 season when Josh Beckett ran into the same incident with Kenny Lofton. This time Lofton was with the Phillies. Beckett's quote after that 2005 game?

"Sometimes I'm my own worst enemy," he said. "It gets back to wasted energy. I need to just focus on the things I can control. After something happens, you can't control it. It's over. I have a real hard time with that ??" just turning the page."

Lofton Backs Sheffield on Torre Remarks

"All I can say is, Sheffield knows what he's talking about. That's all I'm going to say," Lofton told the AP.

In an interview, Sheffield had accused the Yankees manager Joe Torre of treating his white players with more respect than his black players...among other controversial remarks.
