This idea struck sometime in late August as I was watching, most likely, another Astros loss. I thought it would be a good idea so I randomly threw it onto Things for today.
The idea is pretty simple, what were the top...

Kazuo Matsui's Weird Splits

While looking at stats to see where the Astros have room for improvement in 2010, I noticed something odd. Kazuo Matsui has bizarre splits (insert tasteless anal fissure joke here). For his career, Kazuo has basically hit right-handed pitching as well as he has hit left-handed pitching. Here are his nearly identical stats against RHP and LHP:

Bolstering the Astros Infield - Pt. 2: Second to Third

In the second installment of this series, I'd like to talk about a few players who can play both second and third base, and who would likely move to third if the Astros acquired them. I do think a move like this might actually be the most likely one for the Astros to make, especially if they wind up signing somebody to a multi-year deal; that way, whoever they acquire could potentially move to second base after Kazuo Matsui departs at the end of next season. The infield lo...

Bolstering the Astros Infield - Pt. 1: Under the Radar

In preparation for the winter, I'm going to start a brief series about infielders the Astros could potentially acquire to bolster the lacking infield. Third base and shortstop are completely up in the air, especially the former. And since Kazuo Matsui can also play shortstop, it wouldn't be out of the question to move him there and acquire a second baseman.
In other words, all three positions are open to discussion.
In each installment, I will discuss three players.&...

Kaz Matsui Has Roid Rage

I think John Smoltz injuring himself while ironing a shirt he was wearing is less embarrassing than Kaz Matsui having to report this. Hemorrhoids! For once, I'm with Bill Belichick. Let's just list everyone on the injury report as "Probable" and move on.

Kaz Matsui - Rocky Mountain High

Get ready for the second coming of Kaz Matsui. Kaz Matsui? Yeah, the guy the Mets blew $20 million for a 3 yr deal on but then eventually dumped because they were so sick of his futility. Knowing his production, even Richard Prior in Brewster's Millions would not have paid that contract. So before you bust out some tiny purple pills to deal with that uneasy feeling you get when you hear his name, you might want to recognize that this could be a nice little opportunity for your MLB fantasy league.

Recognizing that one team's trash just might be another's treasure, the Rockies signed Kaz Matsui to a one year deal. The Colorado air can perform alchemy on a players career (See Dante Bichette, Vinny Castilla, etc.) and Rockies management thinks they can do it again with Matsui. During his stint with the Rockies, Matsui batted .345 with 19 RBI in 32 games. During those 32 games he batted .281 on the road and had 11 RBI away from Coors. May be he actually learned something while in the minors.
