The fantasy season ends Sunday, folks.

If you're in contention, congratulations, and keep a close eye on that free agent pool if your league uses daily transactions. And now, for the final time in 2008 — God, I'm getting emotional just typing this — it's "The Lower Half."

MLB Free Agent Specialty - Week 25

Not quite like Waiver Wire, this piece examines potentially available players that focus on a specific category. If you need some power, we have a suggestion. If you need some speed, we have a suggestion. If you need some K's, we have a suggestion. Unfortunately, these players will not help your fantasy team (most of the time) outside of the category they are listed.

2008 Kansas City Royals First Baseman

The key question heading into 2008 is will Dayton Moore and Trey Hillman continue to be patient and allow the young players to play through their mistakes as they improve. My fear is they will sacrifice building for the future in an attempt to make a run at a .500 record in 2008. I would love for the Royals to win 80 games in 2008 but not at the expense of continuing to build for 2009 and beyond. The everyday first baseman will be an indication of whether the Royals are going to stay the course in building for the future.

Is 27 really the magic age for every player?

"In fantasy baseball, the ripe old age when potential turns to production and boys become men is 27, the beginning of a player's prime time and the point when a breakout season is most likely to occur."

Tony Finn of SI breaks down the players who will benefit in their year 27 campaigns and those who won't. Injury reports and depth charts are important, but this fantasy document can make as much of an impact on a draft as anything else. Read on, my friends.

The Royals Will Win at Least 70 Games

With the Gil Meche signing, Dotel signing, and superprospects Alex Gordon and Luke Hochevar coming up, the Royals may be able to steal a few games from some teams. Add to the mix, the possibility of Zach Greinke coming back midseason or winning a spot out of spring training (who posted a sub 4 era during his call up), and there are some interesting players.

Also, David DeJesus is a legitimate major leaguer, Shealy will have the first base job from day one, and Emil Brown will be good for around 100 RBI.

Look for this team to be surprising, yet frustratingly inconsistent. They've also proved themselves to be buyer, and cut ticket prices to make a statement to fans.

Big Night for Ryan Shealy

The Royals won't be any good next year, but they might finally have some building blocks to work with. Ryan Shealy should hold down first base after his impressive debut with the royals since being traded from Colorado. While he's been good throughout (.311 AVG), tonight may have been his best game as a pro. He went 2-4 with two homeruns and 5 RBI as the Royals beat up on the Mariners. He was old for his age in the minors, having been stuck in Triple-A because of Todd helton so his numbers aren't as gaudy as they look. However, he should be a quality first baseman for the next few years, providing solid power and a respectable batting average.

The Colorado Rockies have acquired left-hander Jeremy Affeldt and right-hander Denny Bautista from the Kansas City Royals for infielder Ryan Shealy and right-hander Scott Dohmann. Looks like Shealy might finally get some regular ABs...he could turn out to be the next Travis Hafner
