Back on the Job

The All-Star break was last week, but several players are finally getting back to work. Troy Percival and J.J. Putz came off the disabled list over the weekend while other closers are having their own injury issues. And what does the presence of Ray Durham in Milwaukee mean for Rickie Weeks?

Road Woes Continue and Eckersley Calls Out Manny

The Boston Red Sox have now lost 10 of their last 12 road games, and the road doesn't get much easier as they travel to Safeco Field to take on the lowly Seattle Mariners. Granted, Seattle has the worst record in the AL, but the way the Red Sox have been playing, more specifically on the road, it won't be a surprise if Seattle musters 2 of the 3 games.

Dominant at home(36-11) and atrocious on the road(21-32), it sums up the Sox' season thus far. The Los Angeles Angels are 5-1 against the Red Sox this year, easily the only team that has dominated the Red Sox this year. Last night the Angles capped off the sweep with a 5-3 victory. Casey Kotchman's two-run double off Manny Delcarmen put the Angles up for good. In comes Francisco Rodriguez, notching his 40th save of the year(fastest to reach 40 saves), see ya, ball-game.

The offense has been on tilt recently. Michael Silverman of the Boston Globe points out that the Red Sox were out-hit 30-19 over the weekend, with 7 of those 19 hits coming from Dustin Pedroia.

Red Sox Top 5 Keys to a Successful Second Half

Big Papi is coming...As the Boston Red Sox embark on their journey for a third championship in five years, many questions arise surrounding what needs have to be met in order to achieve the title, "2008 World Champions." What do the Boston Red Sox have to address heading into tonight's series against the Los Angeles Angles? We've compiled our top five list with the most important factors that will help the Red Sox reach another milestone.

5. Bullpen consistency...
The World Champion Red Sox of a year ago had a team bullpen ERA of 3.10 and compiled a .226 batting average against, 1st in all of baseball in 2007. Switch gears to 2008 and we can see that things have seriously changed. Hideki Okamjima hasn't been the "Oki" of '07, Delcarmen and Hansen have experienced their ups and downs, Papelbon hasn't been as dominating(we're not knocking him, trust us), and Timlin's ERA is through the roof. In order for the Sox to make a serious run in the postseason, an addition to the bullpen needs to be addressed. Recently, the Sox have been searching for what they hope to be an acquisition that will help benefit the bullpen's recent lack of consistency. Names such as left-handers Brian Fuentes, Ron Mahay, and Demarso Marte have been in the mix.

4. Solidity at SS
When the Red Sox signed Julio Lugo just before the 2007 season, they were looking for an average defensive player but an above average bat. Granted, Julio Lugo has cut down the errors drastically from earlier in the season, but his bat hasn't produced. $9 million dollars is a lot of money to be paying a mediocre shortstop who's on pace to drive in less than 45 RBI's. Has anyone forgotten that Lugo batted .237 last year? Jed Lowrie has stepped up to take Lugo's spot as the veteran shortstop is on the disabled list with a strained left-quad. Lugo won't be back for five-to-six weeks. Even if Lowrie shines in his place the next couple of months, it's almost certain Lugo will take his spot back solely based on his contract and the amount of money the Sox have invested into him. Boston should be looking for a shortstop who plays above-average defense with an average bat. That's all the Sox need from that position.

Todd Jones Impersonates Magglio Ordonez in Rain Delay

Rain delays are always good for fun times in baseball. Over the weekend, it was Jonathan Papelbon and Manny Delcarmen doing a Milli Villi music video that brought entertainment to Fenway Park. Before that, it was the Texas Rangers using the tarp at Shea Stadium as a slip and slide. But of [...]

Jonathan Papelbon and Manny Delcarmen do Milli Vanilli Remix

I never thought much of Manny Delcarmen as a pitcher. At least he has a future as a backup singer one day in case he loses his day job. As far as Jonathan Papelbon goes, I've been hard on him for being outspoken about his money, but there's no denying it: he's a [...]

The Red Sox Bullpen Is Talented In More Ways Than One

More often than not Rain Delays are going to be the most boring things on the face of the Earth. You sit under the upper deck overhang and watch old blooper videos or TWIBs while you wait for the rain to die down. Well the Red Sox have a new video to keep you in the ballpark and NESN decided to air it last night.

Sox & Dawgs and Center Field give us Manny Delcarmen and Jonathan Papelbon as Fab and Rob of Milli Vanilli. Blame it on the Rain....

There aren't very many things that can leave Orsillo and Rem Dawg speechless and I think this one takes the cake in that department. You have to be somewhat nuts to be a closer but Paps might have a little more crazy in him than the required amount.

Blame It On The Rain (Sox & Dawgs)
Blame It On The Rain (Out In Center Field

5 Future Impact Stars of the Boston Red Sox

Ever since John Henry, Tom Werner, and Larry Lucchino came to Boston, Fenway Fans have been virtually spoiled. Behind this trio we've witnessed a new Fenway Park that consists of Monster seats, Budweiser Roof Seats in right, Conigliaro's Corner, and the Coca Cola Party Deck, just to name a few. To top it off we've seen 2 World Series championships in 4 years after an 86-year drought of a championship. But what has really undergone construction is the player development system. These days we can attest to the creation of a dominant minor league system producing players like Kevin Youkilis, Jacoby Ellsbury, Dustin Pedroia, Jon Lester, Jonathan Papelbon, pretty good bunch don't you agree? Add Clay Buchholz, Manny Delcarmen, and Craig Hansen to the mix and this is why we've been seeing a recipe of success. Did I forget to mention Hanley Ramirez was once our prized prospect? His talent is unreal but you have to look at it realistically, if we never traded Hanley to Florida for Mikey Lowell and Josh Beckett, chances are I wouldn't be sitting here talking about our World Series rings.

The Red Sox player development system is spitting out prospects as much as Francona spits out tobacco. Even the New York Yankees are trying to take the approach of the Red Sox, but have come up somewhat short (e.x. Ian Kennedy, Phil Hughes, who are good pitchers, but just don't have it yet, not to mention both players are hurt). If the Red Sox continue with this system of grooming, I can certainly see more championships in the future. So who are the players currently in the minor league system that are going to have an impact for the Major League club within the next few years? Here's a list of the top 5. Justin Masterson and Clay "I'm not talking about Taylor" Buchholz are not on the list due to the fact they are both destined to either stay or return to the Sox rotation. We all know about Masterson and the Derek Lowe-like comparisons. The guy has pitched very well and is starting to feel confident on the hill. There's no reason we should value him as a prospect as he should stay with the ball club, even when Big Fat Bartolo Colon makes a return. Buchholz needs a little more work on his command, but expect him to be a mainstay in the rotation in the very near future....

Jonathan Papelbon and Manny Delcarmen make a great Milli Vanilli

During last nights rain delay at Fenway Park, the crowd was treated to a great video featuring Jonathan Papelbon and Manny Delcarmen lip-syncing to the Milli Vanilli hit, "Blame it on the Rain." I wonder who was Fab and who was Rob. You wont see Mariano Rivera and Kyle Farnsworth doing this!

Where in the World is Manny DelCarmen Sandiego Coming From?

Earlier this year my girlfriend's father decided to take a trip to Canada to catch the Red Sox play in Toronto. The night before game 2 of the series, he was at a club and decided to go upstairs to check out the VIP section. Who was there? None other than Sox pitcher Manny Delcarmen. He witnessed Delcarmen consume a fair amount of alcohol during this time.

The night happened to be an omen for Manny D & the Sox, because the day after sippin' on gin & juice, YAGERBOMBS, and "Making Love in This Club", it all unfolded in the Rogers Centre.....
