The Super Bowl ratings were up, until they eventually ended down in third place all-time behind last year’s Super Bowl and 2010′s Super Bowl XLV. 108.4 million people tuned in last night, it the numbers dipped due to the blackout.
The Parents Television Council is upset that CBS didn’t immediately dump the audio when Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco exclaimed, “f—— awesome” on the field after the game. Why the Parents Television Council cannot just employ my own parents’ rule of, “Just because a grown-up can say it, doesn’t mean you can and some words are just never appropriate,” and handing their kids an LP of George Carlin’s Class Clown which has “Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television” as its last track is beyond me.
2012 Olympic Games draw to a close, Games fantastic-Ceremonies not so much

The 2012 Olympic Games have drawn to a close. In a blink of an eye, 17 days passed and now the world looks towards the 2014 Winter Olympics. This year, as in each Olympic Games, we were treated to some phenomenal athletes, extraordinary performances and we were moved by the stories which we learned about the obstacles which individuals had to overcome in order to reach for their dreams of reaching the greatest athletic stage.
Here at Thepigskinreport.com, we discussed covering the Olympics on our site, but eventually came to the conclusion that with the time difference, and the variety of sports which we are not knowledgeable about, we would not cover the games. I’ll sum up the coverage of the last 17 days for you at this point. The United States kicked the world’s ass, taking home the most medals, along with the most gold and silver medals. You won’t find political correctness in this column, I’m very proud of my country.
What I am curious about the Olympics is, the opening and clo...

The Olympic flame is no more

And now, on to Rio!

London brought the curtain down on a hugely entertaining Olympics with a sensational rock 'n roll nostalgia tour of a closing ceremony that thrilled the London night with top-of-the-chart classics, supermodels and psychedelic mayhem.

After a glorious two weeks of never-to-be-forgotten moments that left Britain exhausted, exhilarated and deeply proud, organizers handed the baton to 2016 host Brazil, which must now take up the Herculean task of matching them.

Judging by the swaying samba of Marisa Monte and the sexy baritone of Seu Jorge in Brazil's eight-minute musical and visual postcard for the 2016 games, they look to be off to a foot-stomping start.

But Sunday was all about Britain.

The three-hour extravaganza offered a sensory blast including rock 'n' roll rickshaws, dustbin percussionists, an exploding yellow car and a marching band in red tunics and bearskin hats.

The Spice Girls staged a show-stopping reunion, and Monty Python's Eric Idle sauntered through

The Who, One Direction in all-ages Olympic closer

''I'm talking `bout my generation,'' sang The Who, capping a raucous, rock `n' roll Olympic closing ceremony

But which generation? When the band members first sang ''My Generation,'' they were in their 20s. Now they are pushing 70.

Like the Olympic torch passing from one runner to another, the London games' closing ceremony was an all-ages affair designed to show the flame of British creativity leaping from one age group to the next.

The 21-year-old singer Ed Sheeran sang ''Wish You Were Here'' with members of Pink Floyd and Genesis. Jessie J belted out ''We Will Rock You'' with Queen's Brian May. The Kaiser Chiefs played The Who's ''Pinball Wizard.''

The Spice Girls took us back to the ''Cool Britannia'' 1990s and the Pet Shop Boys to the synth-loving 1980s.

A ceremony that director Kim Gavin called an ''elegant mashup'' of music and creativity was designed to show that the

London hands over Olympic flag to Rio

The Olympic flag has been handed from London to organizers of the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.

London Mayor Boris Johnson handed the flag to IOC President Jacques Rogge, who then presented it to Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes.

Rio then began an eight-minute segment to showcase the Brazilian city, the first in South America to host the Olympics.

The flag handover was one of the centerpiece moments of Sunday night's closing ceremony of the London Games.

It followed the march of athletes into the stadium and musical performances by acts ranging from the Spice Girls to George Michael to Annie Lennox.

Led into the stadium by the delegation from Greece, flag-waving athletes from around the world are taking part in the show following 16 days of competition in 26 sports.

Among the flagbearers is Kenyan runner David Rudisha, who broke the world record in the 800 meters, and four-time sailing gold medalist Ben Ainslie of Britain.

They'll stay in the stadium for a show featuring musical performances by the Spice Girls, The Who, George Michael, Annie Lennox, the Pet Shot Boys, One Direction, Ray Davies and the surviving members of Queen.

Olympics end with closing ceremony

A fun, festive and fast-moving Olympic closing ceremony got off to a rocking start Sunday with a shout-out to Winston Churchill and a celebration of the Union Jack.

Pop bands Madness, Pet Shop Boys and One Direction opened an extravaganza that promised to keep a worldwide audience entertained well into the night - and dancing all the way to Rio.

Just a few minutes in, the show, put together by artistic director Kim Gavin, already featured a sensory blast including rock 'n' roll rickshaws, dustbin percussionists, an exploding yellow car and a marching band in red tunics.

There was also a pageant of monochrome recreations of London landmarks covered in newsprint, from Big Ben's clocktower and Tower Bridge to the London Eye ferris wheel and the chubby highrise known as the Gherkin.

It all spread out across an Olympic Stadium floor arranged to resemble the British flag.

Street percussion group Stomp built the noise into a frenzy, and dancers brandished brooms, in a nod to the spontaneous popular

Olympics to close with rockin' party

Party! Party! Party!

London is preparing to close out a two-week festival of sports in Olympic style, with a thunderous celebration of British music, from the classical compositions of Elgar to the classic rock of The Who.

A star-studded closing ceremony Sunday night will be long on fun -- a dancing, stomping, psychedelic exaltation of what Britain does best, exporting a head-shaking amount of talent to the world.

The spectacle, which artistic director Kim Gavin promises will be ''the best after-show party that's ever been,'' will have something for everyone -- the Spice Girls, George Michael, Annie Lennox, Muse and many, many other stars mixed in.

There'll be plenty of fireworks and colored lights, acrobats, gymnasts, drummers, supermodels and other surprises to keep the crowd -- and a television audience of tens of millions -- entertained late into the night.

The best seats are for the 10,800 Olympic athletes, who will march in as one and form what Gavin has described as a human

Olympic closer hit parade has The Who, Spice Girls

Get the Union Jacks out and prepare to party: Olympic Stadium is being transformed into a giant jukebox of British pop and pizazz for the ceremony that brings to an end the so-far spectacularly successful London Games.

The Spice Girls and The Who are among the acts celebrating two weeks of sporting competition with a finale that artistic director Kim Gavin calls ''a mashed-up symphony'' of British hits.

Gavin - who has directed rock tours and London's 2007 Princess Diana memorial concert - said Saturday he wants the spectacular to be ''the best after-show party that's ever been.''

''If the opening ceremony was the wedding, then we're the wedding reception,'' music director David Arnold told the Daily Telegraph.

Although organizers have tried to keep the ceremony under wraps, many details have leaked out in the British media - and some performers have let the cat out of the bag themselves.

The London Games are set to end in a blazing tribute to British pop and pizazz, with a closing ceremony that will see stars from the Spice Girls to The Who turn Olympic Stadium into a giant jukebox of musical hits.

Two weeks of sporting drama wrap up Sunday with what music director David Arnold has called ''the greatest after-party in the world.''
